The BBC reports that Sheikh Abdur-Rahman al-Sudais has been invited as a guest preacher to the opening of the East London mosque. Some unexceptional remarks of his are quoted in the story. However David T of Harry’s Place made the connection with the the preacher called Sheikh Abdur-Rahman al-Sudays (also sometimes transcribed as Sudayyis) who has been banned from Canada and who said,
“Read history and you will understand that the Jews of yesterday are the evil fathers of the Jews of today, who are evil offspring, infidels, distorters of [others’] words, calf-worshippers, prophet-murderers, prophecy-deniers… the scum of the human race ‘whom Allah cursed and turned into apes and pigs…’
and urged Muslims to turn from all peace agreements with Jews.
Whether the BBC failed to make the link that David T successfully made between Sudais the advocate of cohesiveness and Sudays the advocate of hating the Jews, or chose not to make it is an interesting question. Probably the former, but it is a characteristic failure.
Isn’t it reasonable to assume that this report was assigned to someone familiar with the Islamic community who would have had at least some knowledge of this most prominent cleric’s publicly report views on Jews, Christians, Hindus, etc.?
If they somehow missed it, where was their editor?
And doesn’t choosing Sheikh Abdur-Rahman al-Sudays to lead the Centre’s opening prayers belie the claim that, “It hopes to improve dialogue between Islam and other faiths?”
The public funding is a nice touch.

Until we have reporters and writers who have an in-depth knowledge of the subjects they write about, we may as well read comics.

Martin: Like it would freakin’ matter to the BBC if you DID point it out to ’em. They frequently tap officials from CAIR — a radical Isalmist group in the US with ties to Hamas, posing as a “civil rights organization for Muslims” — as spokespeople for “moderate Islam.”
One of the founders of CAIR has been quoted as saying he wants to replace our Constitution with the Quran and make Islam “superior” to all other religions in the US.
Typical, I would say. Besides, according to what I been reading on some of the ME and Iragi blogs, “Islam” isn’t really translated as “peace”. It is closer to the English word “submission”, I’ve been told. Interesting. Who is supposed to submit to whom?

Seriously, if this guy can get banned from Canada- the country that’s making a legal loophole for Sharia law- it’s totally inconsistent with the billing of the new centre.
Following the links I also saw how, according to Memri, he ‘beseeched Allah to annihilate the Jews. He also urged the Arabs to give up peace initiatives with them because they are “the scum of the human race, the rats of the world, the violators of pacts and agreements, the murderers of the prophets, and the offspring of apes and pigs.” ‘
So, Canada know about him, Memri know about him, NRO (another Harry’s Place link) know about him, but the BBC don’t?
And where, I might ask (as Dave T. does), is the British Govt. in all this- and the Foreign Office, funder of the BBC World Service? Hmmm.

I had my suspicions when I saw this report – thanks for confirming them.
One thing the report could not disguise was the near riot that broke out among among about a hundred young Muslims when some taxi driver shouted something (the reporter didn’t say what) which they took offence to.
Most of us find taxi drivers offensive at some point in our lives but we don’t feel the urge to tear somebody limb from limb as a result. This sort of reaction seems to be confined to the followers of Mohammed.
If you look at the BBC Islam site on their website today you will see that
a numebr of Muslims are justifying the murder of a satirical poetess who maligned Mohammed during his lifetime. Their comments are quite for their self-serving rationalisations – but equally terrifying when you consider these people are among us.
Could this be why our brave “alternative” comedians and satirists never say boo to a Muslim?
