is a typically incisive posting by Laban Tall, concerning a namby-pamby Radio 4 Today programme report on (failures in) youth justice. Well worth a read, especially for the ‘happy’ ending.

Off Topic:
Radio 2 news at 5.00 pm – BBC actually referred to “terrorism” across Iraq and called them terrorists. I was quite shocked. Can’t remember the exact words. Is this going to become post-Dyke policy I wonder?

Called who terrorists?
The label should be applied carefully in that arena – exclusively to those who use terrorism, such as Abu Musab al Zarqawi. Using it to describe the various native militia engaged in the power struggle in Iraq would be entirely inappropriate.
The person who fires an RPG at US soldiers is not necessarily the same as someone who hacks the head off of a screaming civilian aid worker.

They described as terrorists those who were using terror tactics. It is the actual use of this phraseology I am highlighting as it seems to reverse previous BBC policy.
Save the “terrorist v freedom fighter” debate for someone who’s interested in having it.

I wasn’t attempting to have a “terrorist v freedom fighter” debate, thanks.
