Before Richard Gott had even been exposed as a paid KGB agent, he had made himself ridiculous before the world, and put the Grauniad in a position where a sensible editor should have got rid of him. It happened, as I recall, about 1987, when he published a splenetic article against the English taste for nonsense verse, connecting it with racism and imperialism because, hear ye, one particular nonsense rhyme used the title of a Muslim lorldling, the Akhond of Swat. This sort of thing is perhaps understandable in pseudo-intellectual undergraduate magazines, but even at the Grauniad there were simply too many readers who found it both ridiculous and offensive. Gott was targed by an avalanche of gag-mail, ridiculizing his theory, his pretence at intellect, and his attitudes – including several excellent pieces of verse. I could not understand why they did not sack him then and there, and since the revleation of his treachery I understand it even less.

I’ve studied this corrupting monster for nearly ten years. The Guardian is answerable only to its unsackable political journalists, whose presence on the owning body The Scott Trust dictates its agenda.

Think “Lord of the Flies”. Think “nutters taken over the asylum”. Think “self-perpetuating oligrarchy”. Roll all three together and you have some measure of its self-serving embittered madness.

Then consider that this vile nuthouse steers the agenda of the world’s most influential broadcaster and you then come to understand why I’ve stuck with my story instead of packing up and emigrating to the States.
