England: One Law for Muslims, one for the Rest

England is fast becoming but simple a plot of land floating in the sea instead of a nation of culture guided by a rich legal tradition. It is a tail of warning for the USA, the moral of which is don’t allow minorities to set up a parallel culture or you will cease to be a nation of laws. You will, in fact, cease to be a nation at all.

Naturally, the BBC strives to make it seem as if all is right and good with this destruction of the English legal system because, after all, these people are just doing what “their culture” requires that they do, neatly ignoring the fact that they are in England and NOT back in their own homeland

    Archduke,

I don’t think that many Catholics nowadays think that all the non-Catholics go to hell. I heard from a Catholic pulpit the joke about the Protestant who goes to heaven and is told, “Be very quiet if you walk past that wall – that’s the Catholic part and they think that no-one else is here.”

However I agreed with your and other commenters’ points about the curriculum. Given that Mick Waters is a guest writer I don’t blame the BBC for it, but his article did seem a prime example of near-meaningless eduspeak. If you’re interested, I quoted Jack Hughes here.

archduke – you are quit right – the problem is that this country depends on the service industry for its wealth and most of this is in call centres (thats when there not being “outsourced” to India), supermarkets, fast food chains and government. Most of these jobs are for the automaton.

If you think of all the scientific breakthroughs this country has seen – you wonder why our country does not have the greater number of scientists and technicians. This is all due to the education system, and this recent “curriculum” being proposed is not going to reverse it.

It is also because “streaming” has been demonised by the left (and the BBC). I have often heard Humphreys attack anyone who wants to bring back grammar schools as if they were barking. I cannot see for the life of me why children who are talented should not be encouraged, instead they are dragged down by the unruly kids that Fabio mentioned, all in the name of inclusiveness.

    “Racism at the nightclub door”

Another “victory” for the Mcphearson Report. Guilty of perceived “racism” without any recourse to a fair hearing.

“The Sonia Deol Show on the BBC Asian Network is looking into reports of racist door policies operating at UK nightclubs. Listeners have been contacting the show with stories of how they’ve been refused entry to clubs simply because of the colour of their skin.

But how widespread is this – and is it down to a few racist doormen or is it management that is to blame? ”

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/6335541.stm

Here we have the “blame” before the evidence. It does not say how many listeners have contacted them. Could it be that some of these people were refused entry because they were drunk or unruly? We will never know.

Archduke raised a valid point regarding the Irish approach to unruly kids in schools. There is a certain mindset in us Irish which will not allow political correctness to become the tyranny it has become in Britain.

The following quote is from the Secretary-General of the Supreme Muslim Council of Ireland:
“The Supreme Muslim Council of Ireland would like to say that it believes that the rule of civil law, the democratic system of representation in government, the protection of the rights of women and minorities and the freedom of thought and belief – under all of which we live here in Ireland – are not only compatible with Islamic values but are closer to the ethos and spirit of tolerance, pluralism and peace in Islam and better serve the Irish Muslim community than the undemocratic regimes and the draconian judicial systems found in some predominately Muslim countries today.”

British muslim leaders would or could never say such a thing.

Quite. There is a difference between believing that infidels will go to hell in the End, and actively attempting to send them to hell by your own initiative while sending your own to heaven. The former is common to many religions and, as you say, why should anybody care. The latter, while practiced by others in the past, is nowadays peculiar to Islamists.

Archduke: wrong. Read what Ronald Knox was writing in the thirties and forties. What extra ecclesia nulla salus means is that only the Catholic Church has the means of salvation. It does not mean that good people outside the Church cannot be individually saved, which would flatly contradict Scripture. How that happens is up to God, whom we do not presume to second-guess. There is a theory of the “Baptism of desire” and at any rate Deus non alligatur sacramentis – God is not bound by the Sacraments. Even the most appalling sin does not necessarily preclude salvation: when a woman went to see the Cure’ d’Ars (a heroic priest who is now the patron saint of all parish priests) in great distress because her son had committed suicide by throwing himself in a river, he answered that “there is enough between the bridge and the water for repentance and salvation.”

    Independent Jewish Voices

Thirty years ago, in Australia, we had J.A.Z.A. (Jews Against Zionism and Antisemitism). The usual extreme left suspects were people whose connection with anything Jewish or the Jewish Community was nil. In some cases they were not even Jewish by Jewish Law (for example, child of an ethnic Jewish father).

Their maximum membership was 23 out of a Jewish population of maybe 200,000. Then, as now, the media gave them publicity far in excess of their numbers or influence. Nothing has changed.

J.A.Z.A., Independent Jewish Voices or a dozen others. They probably have more websites than members.

I have recently returned from the Philippines where I spent 3 months with my wife’s relatives. Over there, classroom disruption is rare, indeed my 2 nieces were astonished and horrified when I told them about life in british classrooms. In the school my nieces (ages 17 and 16) attend they have to be there by 7am and there is a flag ceremony and singing of the national anthem. Classes start at 7.20am and end at 4.20pm with only 50 mins break, then there is copious homework and the students are responsible for keeping the classrooms clean and tidy. Children are desperate to do well so they can go to college. A government college course would typically cost £100 or so a year, but when the weekly wage is £12-15 per week, it is hard for many parents to afford college fees. Even so, children recognize that education is the key to success. Here children have lost that recognition. Drivel like Big Brother and its ilk is helping to foster the belief that one can become rich and famous overnight without any hard work. Lax discipline is also to blame as is the “don’t blame my child” mentality of many parents. The lack of respect shown by many children now starts in the home and the obsession with children’s “rights” coupled with the powerless position of teachers nowadays to discipline their pupils results in the herds of chavs and chavettes we see on our streets. And just what will the offspring of these chavs be like I wonder? I can’t understand why the government don’t see all this. Well perhaps they do but are too spineless to do anything about it. The really worrying thing is that I can’t see the LibDems or Blue Labour doing anything about it either.

Archduke, I found this essay on Google – it describes a change in doctrine round the time of the Second Vatican Council. (Though some Catholics would say the old and new pronouncements can be harmonised.) The teaching I heard during my own Catholic upbringing in the 70s seems to have been more liberal on this issue than yours – not that there is anything surprising in there being differences between Catholic communities in different countries, cultures etc.

But I take your point that in the public sphere it’s behaviour that matters, not belief. Most Catholics may not believe nowadays that everyone else goes to Hell, but some other Christian denominations do. That’s their privilege, as it is for Muslims or other religions believing likewise, so long as the law is obeyed.

Number of searching questions asked by Imam James of Smug?

    None.

    Item 2

And Natalie, I did not even bother reading that article after seeing that it came from beliefnet (a.k.a. Moral Equivalence inc.). I have in my library two books published in the forties by a leading Catholic authority, Monsignor Ronald Knox, collecting sermons he had preached in the university of Oxford in his official capacity as Catholic chaplain, each book with its nice Imprimatur notice, and saying clearly that salvation for non-Catholics is perfectly possible. Of course it is not politic to stress this doctrine, since it might lead to losing enthusiasm in preaching. Nonetheless it is perfectly orthodox and always has been. The Catholic Church does not change doctrine, although she may vary emphasis according to time and place.

I listened to the Today programme this morning. Who are these editors of the BBC radio flagship show: Alexis Condon and Roger Hermiston?
Naughtie mentions their names often, but they remain rather obscure faceless individuals. What sort of editors are we dealing with that within one hour invite Lee Jaspers on and the head of the MCB? Revelation of the morning was Jasper’s comment about the ramblings of the two black youth who were given the celebrated after 8am slot. According to him they were both “articulate”! I had to scream aloud with laughter, and suggested to the radio that they are clearly perfect candidates for taking up the study of Mandarin in the class room, because it didn’t sound very English to me, an awful painful Creole and bastardisation of the language. But Lee Japser’s thinks they are both “articulate”. God help us and our schools. Notice how they quickly changed to a literary discussion of books Naughtie’s favourite theme.
The BBC was guilty yet again of bias, in the way in which they withheld any descriptions of the ethnicity of the killings in Peckham. They described it in pseudo objective language (man , boy), and yet inviting Jaspers on to talk about Trident and the black community told us what we were not being told directly.

BBC news is a farce, the Today programme is a circus at times.

    Anonanon | 06.02.07 – 10:13 pm,

Melanie Phillips wipes the floor with David Goldberg.

I don’t think her victory was that decisive but I agree that Goldberg was unimpressive.

The “thinking” behind “Independent” Jewish Voices probably goes something like this:

*Israel is an embarrassment to British Jews.

*There would be no animosity towards British Jews if it were not for Israel.

*Israel must simply give in to Palestinian demands to dismantle the fence/wall and remove checkpoints, thus allowing the free movement of Palestinian terrorists (which is OK because the terrorists will then halt terror against Israeli civilians), withdraw to indefensible borders (which is OK because the Arabs will then keep their side of the bargain and not attack Israel) and allow the return of Palestinian “refugees” (which is OK because Israel shouldn’t be apprehensive of benign rule by an Muslim Arab majority inside the country).

*Once all that has been accomplished, all anti-Semitism worldwide will vanish and harmony will prevail.

Goldberg and company live in a fool’s paradise.

I have no objection to motoring law being enforced. The problem is the contrast between the assiduousness with which the police pursue motorists (those who have insurance and are easily traceable through the DVLA anyway) and the relaxed attitude – or worse – of the police when faced with “real” crime (burglary, assault, drugs). The police tend to succumb to the temptation to choose the easy target – the generally law-abiding who actually turn up in court when summonsed – and lose interest when feral youth are implicated. If you want a comparison with Stalinism, in the gulag there was a clear preference shown to “real” criminals as against the treatment of “politicals”. As an illustration of the current Anglo-Stalinist approach to law enforcement replace “politicals” with “usually law abiding” in the previous sentence.

Given the number of people who drive around with no tax, MOT or insurance, I don’t think the police are doing the business there either! I know what you mean though.

I expect that otherwise law abiding people who fall foul of the law on relatively minor driving offences are easier to deal with, and crank themselves through the system with little police manpower required i.e. they generally admit their wrongdoing, they turn up at court, they pay their fines, they are often sorry for their sins. In effect a much easier statistic to gather than the yobbo who just doesn’t turn up at court because they are off driving another untaxed vehicle.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/agoodread.shtml

Given Al Beeb’s reluctance to address Holocaust Memorial day last week, an interesting moment arose in a cosy book discussion yesterday, led by Sue MacGregor, formerly of Today, when the discussion turned towards an analysis of Kressmann Taylor’s book “Address Unknown.” The subject of the “Holocaust Industry” was raised as it was felt that the publishers, Souvenir Press, were clearly cashing in on the Holocaust by mentioning it in the blurb. Anne Karpf spoke of this as being “cheesy”. Those Jews again.

Pounce, if you missed it do listen to that brave Muslim (Dr. Tag Haggi of the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford) talking about the veil on the Today programme, calling it “a form of self-imposed apartheid” and nothing to do with the Koran, or scriptural direction to wear a “Ninja type face mask” etc. Sarah Montague leads a discussion with the apologetic Humera Khan (National Muslim Women’s Association) appealing to the right of Muslim women to emulate one of the wives of the prophet.

Some motoring problems are pursued unreasonably but the truth is that in most cases speed cameras are there to stop speeding – speed kills Britons every single day. Similarly illegal parking causes accidents as well as annoyance – more injuries, more deaths.

Or is it that some are so obsessed with their cars that they don’t give a damn about others.

We at the Motorists Council of Britain deplore without reservation the letter bombing at present being perpetrated in London and elsewhere. However, we understand the anger of those who are so incensed by the anti-motorist policies of the British government that they feel they have no alternative but to struggle against these anti-motorist policies in this way. We hold the British government solely responsible for the alienation of our young drivers from the general population of law abiding motorists.

It clearly says Al-Aqsa is “believed” to be, i.e. faith-based belief without evidence.

It then says “believe” about the location of Abraham’s sacrificial offering i.e. faith-based belief without evidence

Then it says the Temple of Solomon was built there as a factual statement – surely the ‘and’ makes that a whole new factual clause?

I tried to watch it, not because I want to believe it, but just to see it. It isn’t slick at all, it’s below student film levels and I don’t think I made it past 20 mins in.

Some conspiracy theorists claim that the hole in the Pentagon should be bigger.

There’s a video on youtube and google video somewhere from Tomorrow’s World (well Phillipa Forester voices it anyway) of a jet fighter crashing into a reinforced concrete wall designed to protect US nuclear power stations from Soviet weapons and the plane is totally atomised. The Pentagon is probably protected by similar technology.

If you show that video to a conspiracy theorist they then claim that the hole in the Pentagon is too big because the plane should have been completely atomised, despite that it was significantly bigger than a 2 seater jet fighter.

The conspiracy theorists claim that the WTC collapsed in 8 seconds – that’s about freefall speed meaning that it must have been a controlled demolition.

However, if you watch videos taken from ground level it’s obvious that it took 8 seconds for the building to disappear into the dust, not to completely collapse. That took 15+ seconds, it’s hard to tell since it really slows down near the end and is probably still slowly breaking apart for the next 10-20 mins.

I once heard someone say that it must have been a controlled explosion because the smoke coming from the WTC was black (!!!!!!). Surely everybody knows that anything oil based burns black. That includes aircraft fuel and anything made from plastic.

In short, the conspiracy theorists need to go back to school.

Poor Nick Cohen, condemned to eternally explain to the world that he isn’t Jewish!

Maybe I’m just an idiot, but I wouldn’t have recognised “Cohen” as a Jewish name (not that I would be able to recognise many names beyond Mac* and Mc*).

It seems to me that anyone who would aim anti-semitism (or anything) at someone based purely on their name decided to do so long before they met the actual person.

Personally, I would have to acquire a list of all Jewish names in preparation for an opportunity to use them. That would mean that I have a deep rooted anti-semitism rather than just letting my guard down in a hot situation (we can all turn into racists/religionists if aggravated enough). What is it that they call a pre-planned murder and is considered worse than other types of murder?
