I found it through the link from the BBC site. The Auschwitz joke is great, and being part Jewish he could get away with it. I’m sure he was thinking of the BBC when he wrote his obituary.

We all rejoice in a sinner who repents, and it’s wonderful to see egalitarian John reith (Eton & Trinity, firend of those with ‘vocational degrees’, but enemy of ‘gobby NCOs’) admit the turnaround of the Toady programme on ‘honour killings’ and (brace yourselves) MUSLIM TERROR!
Funny how just a few days the same JR was claiming that any connection between said ‘honour killings’ and Islam was pure coincidence…

HillHunt (BBC): “My argument is for a mixed system, not a state monopoly.”
Well its an argument that is screwed then. Because it is a state monopoly and this has been complained about on many occassions, the main reason being that the BBC has an enormous back catalogue of programmes that it can use to fill up its schedules almost for free.
The American cable TV companies are complaining about the state-subsidised BBC elbowing into their market. The UK magazine companies are complaining about the BBC elbowing its way into the magazine market using state subsidies. Internet content providers are concerned about its growing internet presence. UK satellite companies are concerned about its use of its back catalogue to distort competition. It is a state monopoly using its licence fee to subsidise its activities in a competitive market.
The owners of this state monopoly are, in theory, the people. But unlike a shareholder limited company the owners cannot stand up at a shareholders meeting and complain about the way the company is run. The Beeb expands into other areas of the media without reference to the people that pay for it.
A mixed media market is already here. There is subscription TV and free-to-air TV. The first tentative steps towards internet TV and mobile TV are with us. BTs 21st Century broadband network will usher in a revolution in broadband media distribution. The malovolent, anti-competitive presence of the BBC in all these markets is putting off new entrants from providing consumers with the content they want. The incumbent will need to be tamed in the same way that BT had to be broken into bits to give the market a chance to grow.

They have an insurance dominated health care system in Germany. Everyone is obliged to have health insurance and it gives the patient buying power and choice of hospital. It works rather better than our NHS…
Imagine if we all had to pay a TV licence fee, but we could choose which channels to spend it on….

Well said and I note that HH (NBBC (not British BC)) hasn’t answered that one except to do the usual attack the man (who has served his country rather more than HH obviously has…)than the message.
At least John Reith argues his case and rarely descends into the gutter unlike HH who, unlike Oscar Wilde, is not “looking up at the stars” but sideways at his fellow trolls…
And just because Ultraviolets gibbers about military coups etc doesn’t mean all or most here agree! Indeed the only military coup most ex or serving Forces want is one that gets rid of the social workers in uniform that infect the senior officer ranks just now!

“One could argue the Left has helped pave this road to Palestinian self-destruction.
With all the focus on
the “occupation,” no one on the Left gave any thought to whether Palestinians could actually govern themselves and bring about a viable state. Palestinians are very good at bemoaning “occupation” but when suddenly put in the awkward position of actually having to rule themselves, life under Israel suddenly doesn’t look so bad. Israel’s foundation was built on the sweat and toil of the kibbutzim. The Palestinian foundation rests on a litany of blaming Israel for its problems and then encouraging its youth to take the easy way out by killing themselves and taking as many Israelis with them as possible. How is it that the world expects Israel to cede land to a people not responsible enough to preserve their own lives?”
President Bush told the world almost a half decade ago, “The choice here is stark and simple. The Bible says, ‘I have set before you life and death; therefore, choose life.'” Clearly, the Palestinians prefer death.

That was written by Heron at 3.44pm, not me. I did say something similar without seeing that, and it’s good that people are noticing the limitations of the mischievous.
Tarring the whole blog with the least useful third-party comments is lazy and dishonest; and leaping upon one example of a weak argument and pretending all the other arguments have similar merit is pathetic.
Having said that, I actually don’t think it’s sensible to automatically dismiss BBC supporters as “trolls”; heap abuse upon them and constantly accuse them of working for the BBC when they consistently deny it.
Sometimes John Reith, hillhunt, et al, drop (or reduce) the sarcasm and make coherent counter arguments that are difficult to challenge. That’s the kind of dissent that benefits the comment threads, and it should be welcomed.

Personally – and though a long-term lurker, there’s no way I’d put my own arguments in JR’s (or indeed anyone else’s) class – I think this quote should be added to those on the right-hand side of the home page. Because this site makes a number of very important and worthwhile points; if people remember (and many do – look at the acknowledgement of David Gregory’s contributuons on the global warming debate) that not every counter-argument is automatically worthless and devoid of merit then Biased-BBC’s points are surely in turn more likely to be acknowledged by the “Beeboids”. Certainly, better that than Ultraviolents threats of military action, at any rate, no?

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. The BBC does mention Columbia:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6236188.stm
Three Spaniards and three Colombians in the Spanish army were killed in Sunday’s blast near the Israeli border.
Since the end of conscription in Spain a few years ago they have been recruiting South Americans into the Spanish armed forces. They swear allegiance to the Spanish flag and are given Spanish citizenship when their contract expires.
They are paid around €1000 per month which is 8 times what a soldier in the Columbian army earns.
Something like 6 out of 10 Spanish troops serving abroad are actually South Americans.

I’m afraid I rather strongly disagree with you.
Reith is worth engaging in debate now and then, but one of two others more or less perfectly fulfil the definition of ‘troll’. They are posting for effect and their underlying intention is disruption.
As I’ve said before, why the powers that B-BBC permit this, I don’t understand.
In common with TPO (who, after all, has expertise in this area) I strongly suspect there is an element of co-ordinated MPD at work here and a serious intention to make B-BBC less effective, by flooding it with inanity.

Evidence seems to be mounting over the last few days that the BBC are not as happy with Gordon Brown as they may have seemed.
Or is it that Brown is not very keen on the BBC?
It has been said that a wise man keeps his enemies close. So that he may keep an eye on them.
But Gordon Brown cant handle decent or scrutiny of any type, not even from his best friend, NOT even his MOTHER never mind our least favourate aunty. He cant use or controll the BBC like Blair so he may well simply reject the BBC as “not being that important anymore” and try to ignore it, as best as possible.
However
The BBC does not do, being ignored, you either feed it love it and above all worship it on a daily basis or the BBC will finish you off politically, quicker then you can say “Jeremy Thorpe once thought of joining a Conservative government.”
Gordon may have a battle on his hands with a party political organisation that makes David Camerons lott look as much like serious contenders for National power as the Monster Raving Loony Party.

The BBC, that cult of Plumbers (Again) and the term soldier.
Soldier raped scientist at home
A soldier who posed as a plumber to rape a scientist in her home has been told he faces a long prison sentence. Hameed Mubarak, 29, from Paddington, west London, admitted raping a 35-year-old woman in her north London flat in February. Mubarak threatened to kill the woman with a pair of scissors, Southwark Crown Court heard.
Judge John Price said: “The sentence for this stranger rape, for that is what it was, will be a long one.” Mubarak, a member of the United Arab Emirates army, had only been in Britain for a few weeks when he launched the early morning attack.

“Pounce’s statements are wild and unreliable
Really. Then maybe you could explain why found in the England News website is the following news title;
Soldier raped scientist at home
Seen at a glance and lets say the reader doesn’t follow the story up what impression does one glean from that title. That it was a British soldier. I mean they are the only soldiers serving in the UK. This is the bias I pick out of the BBC news. If the BBC really wanted to report the news as it should it would have reported “Foreign soldier rapes women in London” It would have reported “Immigrant rapes women in North London” or even “Visiting soldier rapes women in London” But by simply saying Soldier raped scientist at home The BBC gives the impression that the British Military are full of thugs and rapists. Now what impression does that give to the international audience whom the BBC is reaching out to. You know like the Arab countries.

Article in the Jerusalem Post ‘Israel Lets Hamas Member Enter Gaza’.
The acticle mentions, almost incidentally, that the Hamas guy was also employed by the BBC!
“The Shin Bet objected to the BBC request, saying that the employee was actually a member of Hamas, and perhaps even a terrorist operative.”
It would be awfully nice if the Beeb or one of its surrogates could take the trouble to confirm or deny this grotesque (if not exactly surprising) revelation. Perhaps they could also let us know just how many members of terrorist organisations are currently employed by the Corporation, not counting its ‘journalists’.
I think I may just write and ask them, and contact the relevant government department to see if they have any views on the matter.

A bit of a drama queen, are you, dear?
Pelted with attitude might seem a more fitting punishment.
Meanwhile, plainly barking as some here may seem to you, their purpose is sincere: to expose what they believe to be examples of the (self-confessed) biases of the BBC to the masses.
The purpose of the trolls, on the other hand, is quite different.
That is to deny what even senior BBC staff admit is a problem.
Where does that leave you?

Unless of course they also work for Hamas (in which case they would be violating their Non Disclosure Agreements).

I seem to recall that Hillhunt derided suggestions that BBC employees might not be too bothered about terrorist bombings in the UK. Here is a BBC employee who might well be carrying out such outrages.
Has any denial been issued from the BBC that they employ Hamas members? Will they sack this staffer after this revelation? Why the *uck are we paying to sponsor such an odious organisation?
