Hain Resignation Observations

I’ve just heard the BBC anchor respond “absolutely” to a Labour talking head’s suggestion that we need to remember Peter Hain’s “great achievements” as Work and Pensions Secretary. I am sure this is not an isolated incident of BBC sympathy. Would you care to add your thoughts in this thread? BBC story and coverage HERE.

Oh, and of course, this blog offers kudos to Guido on his great success.

Carol Walker’s tribute video piece, on Peter Hain:
‘Fought against Apartheid, wanted to raise taxes on top earners, founded the Anti-Nazi League, spoke out against hunting…’

Actually these crimes make trousering the odd £100,000 look like a minor misdemeanour.

I have just been watching a discussion on Hain on Breakfast Time sometime around 7:10 am this (Friday) morning. It was between the shows presenters and two journalists one I didn’t know but the other was the Guardians Political guy called Michael something or other but he has a funny little moustache. To be honest it was pretty breathtaking as both the journalists and the shows presenters all agreed with each other. Everyone kept saying how obviously Hain had never done any criminal and it was all just an innocent oversight in a chaotic campaign. No one pointed out that is for the Police to find out ! One of the presenters asked if this may all be to do with the amount of money. But this was quickly squashed by both guests who pointed out Hain had run a national campaign using Facebook and things like that. At this point no further questions were asked (like why does it cost £100K to set up a Facebook page and has anyone got the receipts for what the money was spent on) All the members of British media/political elite on show were then happy the little people out there knew what to think.

Lastly though there was no mention at all of Guido or of blogs in general and their role in this story. It made the entire piece incomplete but I’m guessing that was the aim.

Interesting that BBC 5 live haven’t got a phone in this morning about Nu Labour sleaze or Peter Hain or any of the Nu labour lot being investigated for dodgy dealings.

Why not? Could it be that Mr Bean has been on to the BBC to say “kill it?”

Will be see Nu Labour toady Marr cleaning the bottom of Mr Bean live on Sunday?

Oh and to cap it all the 5 live phone in is all about…. should you be able to play for an English team if you are not English?

This is from the BBC!! where in England the BBC is full of Scots. You gotta love that.

Toady programme in full denial/Pravda mode this morning – leading on the creation of artificial life (a coded reference to Gordon Brown perhaps?) The jaunty interview with James Purnell tried to make it seem this is just a nice fresh start for the government, nothing to do with a criminal investigation. Purnell was treated like a GCSE candidate – being asked at one point – what is an annuity? Jeez. Today (and the rest of the BBC judging by 1327s report) is becoming ever more detached from reality. If it weren’t for the likes of Guido Fawkes (all hail Guido) the cover up would be almost total.

The Hain operation should rightly be compared to similar actions in the private sector.
If a business has a shell front company to receive money and that business does not declare that income to HMRC it will be prosecuted for money laundering and tax evasion.

BBC decrees that no damage has been done to Labour as a result of Hains’ misfortune

I was reading the BBC Views web page at lunch time and came across the lead story the headline was something like “Labour not tainted by Hain says Purnell”. (i didn’t think to link the story – perhaps others have done so) The story was simply a press release from the socialist spin machine, utterly, utterly uncontested and clearly a free opportunity for damage limitation presented to the labour party courtesy of the poor saps forced to pay for this propaganda on pain of criminalisation by the ‘collection team’….

I was on the point of making a formal complaint to the BBC but lo it has vanished from the top spot on the news page – gone completely and replaced by “Brown denies dithering over Hain “http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7208304.stm which in itself is interesting – why not “Brown is an incompetent ditherer, says the leader of the opposition” which is a mirror image of the current BBC story?

What is going on in the “news room”. The ‘no damage story was disgraceful partial and partisan – so much so that the story moved onto the politics page in an hour and vanished altogether in two. Are these people lazy, incompetent puppets of the tottering spin machine, stupid or simply so biased that they have lost sight of how transparent their behavior is?

Brown “right to wait” is the headline, followed by “Gordon Brown has said he was right……..”

So the quote is the headline again.

  15. Alan says:

    JR,

BBC and yourself always claim that it is the civilian casualty ratio between the Israelis and Palestinians what prompts the bias in the middle east reporting. Palestinians die more so that is the reason their point should be presented more. No matter the fact that Hamas intends to kill more, or that Israelis do everything to build shelters and protect their population.

So it it is only a number’s game:

How come that for 6 hours now, the bbcnews.com front page top article is about an event that no people died in:
“Gazans make new border wall hole”
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7208252.stm

Yet, Beirut bombing that killed 11, including a top Government official,
is not the top story, and only appears under Middle East section (plus the fact that title downplays the atrocity)
    “Beirut bomb kills top policeman”
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7208458.stm

Who, why and how is the prioritizing of articles made?
How come, Lebanon descent into chaos is not a top story? It has a potential to bring many more deaths.
How come Syria is not blamed for all the woes in Lebanon, like Israel is for Gaza?

In the past I would have been inclined to think that FO Arabists might have a hand in it. But FO controls and finances the World Service directly, and World Service has not been nearly as biased as the BBC World.

I think Reith binges on Friday evenings. I remember a comment he made last year on a Friday which sort of tailed off into nothingness. Someone commented that he’d probably fallen off the bar stool. It was hilarious.

But I’m sure he’ll be back justifying BBC bias once he’s over his hangover.

Remember that BBC article berating big bad Intel on dropping out of the OLPC project:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7171201.stm

I said that over at the MIT Media Labs, OLPC is known as Negroponte’s ego-trip. I also brought some proof that OLPC XO is a fluke in terms of both technology and prices (much better products are already on the market at a similar price).

Well, the entire OLPC venture seems to be a disaster, when facing a real world, and people are angry:
    http://blogs.pcworld.com/techlog/archives/006361.html
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,141790/article.html

But, BBC never loses a chance to support what they perceive as a “socially aware cause” without understanding neither the market nor technological considerations behind it. BBC’s supported causes are often run poorly and rife with corruption, EU, UN, Palestinian Authority or OLPC – take your pick.
But that is a small price to pay for such a lofty cause – right?
    http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/olpc-crisis-customer-data-lost

Get one OLPC XO for the price of two:
    http://www.laptopgiving.org/en/index.php

Meanwhile a not so pretentious project, driven by the market and with much better technology is rapidly dropping in price an will soon reach the OLPC XO subsidized pricing:

I see that the HYS on Hain has closed down with 1000 or so comments unpublished!
Oh dear the BBC commisars didnt like what they were hearing so they closed it down pronto?
They also have a story headline saying “Brown was right to wait” on why Brown dithered about sacking Hain, of course it was one long ego massage and pro NuLab spinjob that could have come straight out of the NuLab command bunker!
Next door they have pages and pages of ‘profiles’ on Hain & Co puff pieces and propaganda rubbish that could have come right out of Pravda.
The BBC counter propaganda unit called ‘John Reith’ say there is no evidence of pro socialist bias? they should have a look at the many pages of NuLab propaganda on the BBC website.
They even spent more time trying to pin blame on the Tories than they did on the crooked Hain & Co.
The BBC are trying so hard to pin the blame for the worlds economic troubles on the USA in a vain attempt to protect their NuLabour masters from any blame. Does it occur to the BBC that the insane economic policies of the EU and the puppet NuLab regional government just might have something to do with it? and still the EU and Brown continue with their suicidal and ignorant schoolyard economic madness.
What will it take for the BBC to tell the truth?

Here’s a thing, not very recent but completely new to me.

In another place poster Stig kindly send some suggestions for our “Hero of Socialist Broadcasting” award.

One of the links related to beeboid Adam Bowen who has produced the “Politics Show”. Like countless of his BBC colleagues, he has also been employed by the Labour Party.

In 2006 he needed a researcher for his programme.

He advertised the position here on the official Labour Party blog site.

    http://www.labourhome.org/story/2006/9/15/135354/831

I’ll give JR the opportunity to prove to us that the position was also advertised on Conservative and Libdem blogs before commenting further.

I see David – Alex Hilton runs the official Labour Party blog and puts BBC staff ads on it without the BBC’s knowledge or consent

Why would he ever imagine that anyone on the Labour Home blogs would even be interested (irony)?

To me it just illustrates the corrupt symbiosis that’s developed between Labour and the Beeb – where people, opportunities, information and attitudes just flow seamlessly back and forth.

Hard to prove corruption sometimes – but the smell usually givs it away.

Anyway, I’m going to start copying a few selected BBC job ads onto my blog.

Can you just confirm that’s OK with your HR department?

Posting BBC job applications elsewhere is a very good idea, because at least then there is a remote chance the BBC will end up with people applying who haven’t stepped through the liberal media looking glass.

However, I’m sure the most important question in any BBC interview is: “Where did you see the vacancy advertised.” The swiftest and most discreet way for any BBC employer to ensure they only end up employing people like themselves.

Come on David, I’m sure five minutes of conversation with you was enough to flag your political persuasion and how likely you were to tow the party line. No need to ask where you saw the ad when your politics are at the for, especially if you have a portfolio of lefty articles under your belt.

But just out of interest, where DID you see the vacancy for your post advertised?

  32. David Gregory (BBC) says:

The People’s Front of Judea: Oh good Lord. Let it go! lol. It was in Media Grauniad. Which isn’t the paper I chose to read, but when looking for a job I brought it every Monday because it’s the clearing house for media jobs in the UK. I’ve also applied for jobs at the Telegraph which were also advertised in MG alongside ITN, Sky and other bits of News International.
These days I’d spot BBC jobs on our intranet but would still check MG on a Monday just to see what was going on.
Do you really think The Telegraph would put an advert in the Guardian if they only thought they would get Guardian readers applying?
They put it there to reach the widest audience who might otherwise miss it if they published it one random day in their own paper.

The Trotskyites on the NewsQuiz weren’t at all funny about Peter Hain. Given the rich comic potential presented by an orange-coloured minister who spent £100,000+ on a campaign for a non-job and finished fifth, you’d think that the comic genius which is Jeremy Hardy might have made something of it. But somehow he didn’t.
    Funny, that.
