Why is Angry Young Alex posting here? At his age he should be mooning over some celebrity,squeezing his zits or amusing himself by abusing himself.This is most unnatural for someone a “Big School”.
I don’t think this Iran-born woman will get much media coverage from the BBC:-

Sharia will not be brought in here. Despite the BBC trying to cool the whole debate down (not their job) the public has gone balistic over this.
The people of this country rightly sense that Sharia being enshrined in law would be the beginning of the end for the country. That it has already started to be used in some arbitration cases was a shock for many (and was largely unreported by the BBC).
My feeling is the BBC will be forced to fall in behind public feeling on this as the public will simply refuse to be led on something this important.

You really think this. You have a government that finds a way to approve multiple wives without going to the people. You have a government which will develop Sharia compliant bonds so it can go after Islamic money (what did they do before this).
And you still think the UK will not get Sharia?
Much like the decision to nationalize the bank, it is the way the big brother government types think. They know better than the man in the street. It is for your own good.
You will get Sharia law and you will like it.
There’s one aspect of Sharia law, and indeed of Islam in general, that I haven’t seen discussed much.
Like a lot of people I imagine, since 9/11 I’ve read a lot of stuff on Islam and read a lot of websites where Muslims seek advice on Sharia.
It seems to me that in Islam the religious and legal authorities are self-elected Imams who derive their power from their popularity, their oratorical skill or their powers of self promotion.
As far as I understand, there is no formal legal education process, no hierarchy of professional qualifications and no supervisory body to adjudicate and maintain standards. Unlike English Common law or European Napoleonic law there is no formal system of recognizing precedents or making statutes.
In short, I can’t see that Sharia really qualifies as a legal system at all; it’s a superstition based belief system which may have some admirable, as well as some wholly objectionable, effects – but it can’t possibly be approached as a equivalent or even complementary to our civil law as the BBC article implies.
I’ve noticed that, in all the hot air that’s been expended since old beardie put his foot in it – I haven’t seen an analysis of Sharia by a proper lawyer. Has anyone else?

While R.Williams wants some sort of place for Sharia law in the UK, and despite the the BBC’s somewhat neutered description of Sharia law, most British people oppose it.

The British are a fearful, shallow bunch and I see absolutely NO retaliation so far – not even an ounce – against our oppressors. If Islam wants Sharia law, then so be it. There will be no retaliation. Or what there will be will be too little too late and cut down instantly by those who would already have gained too much power.
When you yourself openly admit you will pay your license fee because you don’t want to get in any trouble, where do you think all these brave noble British freedom fighters will suddenly spring up from. And why do you feel it’s the job of EVERYONE ELSE to refuse to be led on something like this?
The BBC have got this far and continue to do so because Britain is so placid and docile. The only thing we can hope for is that when we do become an Islamic state, other European nations will double their efforts to end this murderous evil cult that is Islam.

witchcraft is in the eye of the beholder. A guy said the woman made him impotent so the courts found her guilty of witchcraft. Don’t forget, the appeals court, whatever this is, said they couldn’t kill her. So they found her guilty of something else and sentenceed her to death again.
