Well now – what a turn up. The Irish have refused to be led by the nose and follow the advice of all the main political parties, big business and trade unions, and said NO to the Lisbon Treaty. The BBC coverage on this should be most interesting – just listen to the tonality of it (as the late unlamented Hillhunt would have suggested). I was reading Mark Mardell’s take on it here which is lamentable in terms of asking the hard questions about the serial failure of the Eurocrats to seLl their lousy Constitution to the people of Europe. Instead Mark seems more interested in considering how a way can be found to get around this awkward business of democracy. I predict the BBC will be in mourning with grim faced news-readers breaking the news but they will try to gain encouragement from Mr Broon’s claim that he plans to go ahead and force it through Parliament.
IRELAND SAYS NO!

Yes. It’s funny that the Beeboids and other make the excuse that those who voted no hadn’t bothered to read the treaty, but those that voted yes did? What utter bollocks.
Oh David. You wanted to know who Johnny was? He’s called Johnny Dymond.
Guess what?
Take a look at this link. He’s 100% typical beeboid.

Geoff | 14.06.08 – 12:27 am,
Thanks for that clarification. Those who insists on dissolving national boundaries and making government more remote and unaccountable have no idea of the hell they are unleashing on the world – or maybe they do, and that’s even more troubling.

Bryan, cheers. I do believe that those who wish to destroy our country should be allowed to try it because that is democracy and those of us who think that it isn’t such a great idea should be allowed to defend our liberty.
However – it must be via an impartial media output (which pro and anti EU activists are both currently forced to pay for but only one side is represented on)
I am dreading the next Question Time because I’ve just bought a decent flat-screen TV and I just *know* I’m going to throw something heavy at it.

David Vance, you obviously are not well up on the situation at all. Please don’t try and twist this result to fit it into your pre-planned xenophobic worldview.
And then maybe do some basic english comprehension.
“IRELAND SAYS NO! Well now – what a turn up. The Irish have refused to be led by the nose and follow the advice of all the main political parties, big business and trade unions, and said NO to the Lisbon Treaty”, you say
Actually, the trade unions were all OPPOSED to the treaty. See, for example:
http://www.independent.ie/national-news/blow-for-lisbon-as-union-joins-no-side-1367565.html
‘biased bbc’ needs to sharpen up its analysis, if it even has the capacity to critically analyse itself.
You are accusing trade unions of doing precidely the OPPOSITE of what they are in fact doing, ie opposing the treaty. Why not do some real research rather than wanking over the daily mail. Trade unions represent and protect workers. But obviously when they agree with your viewpoint, you feel the need to slander them anyway.
To summarise, if you lot can’t even do basic internet research then your website has zero credibility. You sound like a load of bitter old men.
If anyone wants to argue with this viewpoint, they should first address the basic errors of fact in this posting.

The hidden question concerning Irish voters was immigration.

You better show this to the BBC as well, because I heard Johnny Dymond (thanks, Martin) say earlier that the foolish Irish voted no because they wanted to give the establishment – in which Dymond included the trade unions – a good kicking. Mayo agreed.
They’re also the ones that reported beforehand that “both sides” kept the people uninformed. They smelled a ‘No’ result, and tried to portray it as an error. Once that didn’t work, they turned to other “reasons”, such as a misinformation campaign by those against.

The Celts have shown their mettle; now it’s time for the English to show theirs. Go out into the streets and demand that Bottler Brown call a general election, and demand a referendum on the EU treaty for good measure as well. Do it now, while the momentum is on your side, and the enemy is in confusion. Carpe diem. C’mon Albion: Throw the tea into the harbor now!

Garden Trash:
Why is Denis Matyjaszek so concerned about Turkey ? He is on our payroll.
Good god, you have to ask? Al-Beeb will find a Muslim angle for anything. If the Pope died tomorrow the BBC lede would be: “Muslims React to Death of Pope.” If a giant earthquake flattened L.A. tomorrow, the lede would be: “Muslims Concerned About Mosque Damaged in Massive L.A. Earthquake.” When Teddy Kennedy dies of brain cancer the lede will be: “Teddy Kennedy Dies of Brain Cancer, a Disease that Sometimes Affects Muslims.”

Ireland will be offered a massive bribe, a change in the treaty that shoves a few extra billion their way, or a way to avoid massive immigration from Turkey when they get in. Then they will be asked to vote again.
Menwhile back here Broon has surrendered Maggies rebate for nothing in return and is going to push ratification through without our promised referendum.
Why do we not hear any more about his red lines has he surrendered them too?

Jeff,
Great to hear from you. There’s nothing like a well researched comment and indeed your is truly nothing like a well researched comment. Have a little read of the following links – maybe it can educate you a little,

Progress at the BBC in its reporting of the European Union (late in the day): I thought that both Gavin Esler, BBC 2 ‘Newsnight’ last night (interviewing EU vice-president), and John Humphrys, ‘Today’, this morning, (interviewing Labour’s Jim Murphy, Minister for Europe) got to the heart of the issues. Neither interviewer allowed answers of bureaucratic
obfuscation to hide the fact that the EU Lisbon Treaty is dead, by popular vote.

Esler could have done more to spike the disgraceful attitude oF McShane. E.g. His “slip of the tongue” in referring to Sinn Fein as the IRA – something he would never do in any other circumstances. & of course the No campaign had to be led by a “mad” billionaire.
McShane continues to show that he has taken leave of his senses in today’s Times Ireland represents 1 per cent of the EU’s total population and some old-fashioned democrats may feel that 1 per cent does not outweigh the rest of Europe’s nations which are saying “yes” to the treaty. Did the rest of Europe vote on the Treaty?

will: Spot on. The IRA thing did give me a smile though.
The fact is the EU is undemocratic. The EU Parliament does not make EU law. It’s simply a revising chamber ( a bit like the House of Lords) for that it’s the Council of Ministers that draft everything. Fine they are elected in their own Country (usually by a minority of that population) but the EU comes across as just corrupt all the way through.
The problem with the BBC is that it has a love of large bureaucratic organisations (just like itself) we also know the BBC has had huge amounts of money from the EU and I’m betting the BBC see’s the EU as a way for the BBC to dominate things like the internet (with its ever increasing web services paid for by you and me) and even TV.
I still maintain the BBC wants to be the main EU state broadcaster funded by a TV tax from EVERY EU home. Could you imagine the amount of money the BBC would have access to?
In return the BBC would act as the mouthpiece for the EU spouting its political propaganda across the airwaves.
Goering was told in the Battle of Britain “Give us Spitfires”, Hilter would have been told “give us the BBC”

So that’s how YOU read. With your eyes closed.

Try opening them. You might learn something.

That’s English, yes, in case you missed it.

David: That’s 14 for, 5 against and 8 abstaining. In reality that’s 14 for and 13 against. Not really a cut and dried endorsement. But I accept that it is a majority.
BTW Millie Tant. I checked my posting and noticed that I had made one spelling mistake ie “precidely”. That doesn’t really mean I can’t master Englishg spelling. Your comment seems to insinuate that I am not English.
BTW I am also opposed to the Treaty. I just don’t like people coming out with hackneyed arguments.

or indeed ‘English’, sorry.

JEFF,
You wrote “english”, not “English”. That is what I was pointing out – the word, not the nationality. (However, I didn’t put it in inverted commas to indicate that I was referring to the word.)
Oh, “precidely” is just a typo in my book.
