Is BBC business editor Robert Peston now running the UK economy, or merely ruining it? I ask this having endured watching him droning away on The Ten O’Clock News and reading this latest entry on the BBC news portal. He hails the Brown £50bn bail out as our banking system is partly nationalised, suggesting that it will make the banks stronger and more ready to lend. It’s been interesting to see a lot of criticism across the blogosphere directed the BBC’s way over the hysterical financial grandstanding by Mr Peston and his apparent admiration for Labour. We are not alone.

Although my friend I fully understand why you believe everything you state is true. Europeans see things a very different way. They see the problem as being us the British, and our corporate capitalist, acutely imperialistic, banking disease.

The above mentioned statement is total rubbish, I live in the Netherlands and have NEVER heard or read any article supporting your comments.
If you really think that the rest of Europe’s corporate banking systems are any different to the UK’s then you need to realign your atlas.

The difference between the reporting on the BBC and ITV on the Gordon Broon foul up is amazing.
Brown is a fucking hero on the BBC. “A true Statesman” wanks the BBC.
On ITV he’s made to look a tool.
I know who I trust more.

This is Peston’s blog re the banks allegedly asking for help.
Note that there is a large amount of comments which appear to have been deleted. Note in particular the timing gaps…most unusual for a popular blog.
These appear to have been deleted following Michael Howard’s letter to the FSA.
Any comments on there might help stir it a bit.

Anyone notice how PMQs were broadcast today?
Bottler’s tractor stats were treated with due reverence, yet Dave’s third question was not broadcast as 5Lite decided it was more important to get an ‘opinion’ from some BBC reporter on the impact of the interest rate cut (which only happened 10 minutes before!)
Then Alastair’s Darling’s statement was broadcast in toto with no interruption, yet George Osborne’s reply was not transmitted as it was apparently more important to get the views of that noted economist John Pienar
Finally Dave’s attempt at a bi-partisan approach attracted political point scoring by Bottler on his comments ref bankers (note that Dave’s views would probably be supported by 90% of the population), not commented upon of course
They have abandoned any attempt at equal treatment

ITN – labour MPs were “jeering like children” in response to Cameron’s questions. as indeed they were.
i’ve given up on BBC reporting on the crisis – its no better than Pravda.

starfish: Did you hear Victoria Derbyshire this morning? She was a total airhead. “Oh I can’t manage these big numbers” she waffled when talking about the ‘billions the fat one eyed jock is urinating down the toilet pan.
I wonder how much of that money will end up in the Labour party bank accounts?
Cameron has made a big fuck up backing bottler Broon. Cameron should be really hammering Liebour over this mess.
So why did the FSA make such a mess of regulation in the first place? Who put them in charge?
No more boom and bust.
The Tories should be having a field day, most people think they are being shafted by Nu Liebour, only the twats at the BBC are spinning the lie that Brown is the saviour not the villain.

I thought this thread was meant to be about “Pissed-on”.
Last I saw of him was on the BBC News at six, or whatever the hell they call it now, and no mention of Michael Howard’s letter to the FSA asking them to investigate “pissed-on”.
BBC bias, surely not ?

Can anyone decipher this

It looks like some kind of third rate drivel.

Just had a look at it and , despite my background in economics, finance and boring old accountancy, I haven’t a clue what these ignorant journalists are drivelling on about.
But, I suspect, neither do they. The fact that they are referring so much to each other looks like wagons in a corral.
But, really it has reached the stage of playground gossip. ” Michael says this to Robert, who thinks this and says …… “

It is amazing ! Talk about the animals taking over the farm.
I just wonder if the BBC are pissing it up because they don’t care anymore.
Maybe already assuming that the Tories will win the next election and shaft them. I really don’t know. But, I do care. After all we are all paying for this.

PS and the BBC did their best to hide the fact that all the markets, every one, went down today on the announcement of :-
1. Rescue plan
2. Interest rate cut
Not a great vote of confidence.
“Pissed on” changed his tune earlier and started blaming it on falling mining stocks !

I see that the Beeb has pulled Peston’s blog on which awkward questions were being asked. First they deleted loads of comments. now they’ve shut the comments service down ‘for maintenance’, Wonder why all the other blogs are ok?
I’ll bet that if and when the offending section returns, if it does, then all the comments will have been deleted.

When chickens come home to roost at the BBC, they just get censored. Pretty unreal that the Beeboids can just lie like that. I guess that shouldn’t surprise me any more.

Preston? Do you think he was called that because someone pushed down on him really hard when he was a baby? Prest-on! Get it?
I think there’s a lot of fun to be had with silly comparisons to peoples names like that. But watch out. I once got thumped by a big bouncer when I joked about his last name. His name was Mick. Mick Mymothersadirt I’ve found.whore.
A lot of bouncers don’t have very good senses of humour.

Robert Peston is a great reporter. He has great sources and breaks major stories. His analysis is clear and objective. Watch the ‘Greed Game’ on BBC iPlayer for more in depth assessment.
He’s only the messenger, he doesn’t move markets.

When push comes to crunch, should one man have the power to bring down a bank?
