ALL INNOCENT

Have to laugh at the content of the BBC item “Scandal probe clears Obama team.” Phew, what a relief that is knowing that The One’s team had “no inappropriate discussions” with Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich. That’s the review conducted by Greg Craig, one of Obama’s trusted legal advisers. Not even a trace of a conflict of interests there then, right? Naturally all this Obama sanitisation is swallowed by the BBC’s intrepid journalists.

All of which would have been alright had the (rotten) BBC covered the scandal in the first place.

As usual with the BBC, the sin is omission.

I have been watching news 24 (look at me my age and I am still not sleeping through the night) They did admit that the internal investigation would not be the last word on the matter.

If it had been a republican the coverage would have been endless.

Yeah, The Light Worker may not have had any direct discussions with Blago…but when Rambo has gone quiet on the matter that does tend to lead one towards the uncomfortable truth that his cheif of staff had been dealing with Blago.

And if his CoS had been dealing with Blago, then he was doing it for The Light Worker.

Anyway…its not like the MSM is suddenly going to find a backbone and start reporting this is it?

The fact this involves Democrats should be enough to get the Media Hounds all sexed up and barking at this story. The very fact the MSM has NOT gone crazy over this story in the same manner they went crazy over Palin using her own money to buy a sunbed pretty much tells you everything you need to know about how the next 4 years will be covered by the press.

If even the Daily Telegraph trumpets the innocence of the Obama team – headline “Barack Obama advisers cleared over Illinois Senate seat scandal” – then the BBC’s stance hardly comes as a surprise. I can only assume that Toby Harnden has “gone native” in Washington and has joined the Obama Fan Club.

Even the LA Times (not known as a great anti-Obama propagandist) managed a more accurate headline. It’s a good one too – “Obama team probe of Obama team finds no Obama team impropriety”. Indeed. Tells you all you need to know, in a subtle way.

As a regular reader of the DT of many years I have been more than a little perturbed by Obamania therein. With the recent grubby “save relatively well to do pensioners at everybody else’s expense” campaign I am starting to get more than a bit worried about editorial direction!

I have some sympathy with the “save the pensioners” campaign. It can be justified in that forcing down interest rates in the UK hits hardest those who have worked and saved for their old age (old-fashioned I know but admirable all the same) and leads to a drop in value of sterling (which is inflationary – again hitting savers – and, in a world with crumbling trade, will do little for UK exports).

Nevertheless, I agree that the DT has become a very loose cannon. Its climate change/greenie reportage – particularly Charles Clover – could have come straight from the desk of Roger Harrabin (maybe it does!). Also, if I wanted to read clap-trap written by the likes of Mary Riddell, I’d buy the Guardian. Moreover, I don’t think the Guardian is currently considering replacing Polly Toynbee with Simon Heffer. Mind you, now it’s owned by the Barclay brothers I wouldn’t be surprised at any lunacy being espoused by the DT.

I’m not that far off myself and have worked and saved so why aren’t I a special case too. My savings interest has slumped, as has the value of my pension pot. Those already retired have generally achieved much better annuity rates than us following on. I suspect a goodly proportion of DT reader pensioners also own their own home partly paid for with extremely generous government subsidy on their interest which those following on do not get. Many will also be on final salary pensions which more and more of us following on will not get. I suspect even the functionary final salary schemes will have to be considerably pruned back over the next few years. With the post war baby boomers just coming up to retirement there will be even more pensioners to subsidise. The national cake is only so big and the government is currently taking out a huge mortgage to be paid off sometime by somebody and every “special case” is asking for someone else to pick up even more of the tab.

    Happy Christmas
