Icing the cake with many layers.

I’ve been watching the BBC live coverage of the evening’s G20 dinner. Interesting to watch the BBC modus operandi. It all begins with sweeping positive comments for Gordon- Gordon “couldn’t have wished for better from Obama” blah blah… “could have scripted it himself” blah blah. Typical Gordon-boosting. That basic line is then refined with sometimes contradictory observations. The subtext to this has been unquestioningly about increasing regulation (taken for granted, never scrutinised, awaited with barely contained impatience). I’ve just heard, by the way, Bridget Kendall say that “no-one would say France and Germany are socialist countries”. It all rather depends on your definition. Communist no, socialist- I would say yes. There’s plenty more of stuff like that- I am sure you have noticed more…

I’ll add that I’ve just now heard Nick Robinson say that “not so long ago” Gordon “couldn’t have dreamed of such praise” as he got. What? Nick seems to be on a planet where that hasn’t been a recurring and obvious wet dream of the hapless Brown ever since the One descended to become POTUS- and also an entirely predictable gesture. He also seems to have attended a press conference where Obama wasn’t as routine and laid back as he appeared to me on screen.

    Sums it up nicely.
But there are millions out there who believe the state has it’s own money that somehow is nothing to do with us.
Mind you as the presses are now rolling overtime this may well be true.

I would just sack Harrabin – and bring back a proper scientist.

“David Whitehouse is a well-known broadcaster and writer, and one of the world’s most cited science journalists. A radio astronomer, he has been a science editor of BBC News Online and science correspondent for BBC radio. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a past president of the Society for Popular Astronomy, and the minor planet 4036 Whitehouse is named after him. He is the author of two widely acclaimed books The Sun: A Biography and The Moon: A Biography . ”

Oh come on Abbott I was a kid in the 60’s and we used to have wank mags at school then. Everyone had them, they used to get passed round school.

Abbot isn’t human for starters and I don’t need to see her in the buff (thank god)

Just caught a bit of Radio 5 Up all night. Their excellent (OK I’m taking the piss) political reporter John Pinhead talking to two bloggers about the G20.

Two bloggers, one from the left and one from the right you might think? Be serious, this is the BBC. We have a Labour Cabinet Office minister and some dopey woman from mumsblog or something.

Overall Gordon is brilliant, Obama is a god and we must all vote for Gordon to let him complete Gods’ work.

    BBC satisfied again.

Your Tony Blair era has just begun – all smime and no substance.

Tony Blair was your Bill Clinton, only without a need to balance the budget to pay for one of his shrewish wife’s schemes. So he let Gordon Brown do his accounting sleight-of-hand.

The Obamessiah is more like our Nero.

  21. David Preiser (USA) says:

Since this has become more or less a BBC Obamessiah Love thread, it just wouldn’t be complete without a visit from our old friend, Justin Webb.

On the General Comment thread, frankos posted this comment:

once again Obama stumbled incoherently over a simple question from the press.
Why is this allowed in his case but not Bush’s?
BBC just gave him a little benevolent smile as if to say “well; he’s probably tired”
Yeh tired out wasting American tax dollars.

Earlier on this thread, Martin said this:

Anyone see Justin Webb make a total knob of himself with Obama? Trying to ask a question without a mic. I reckon our Justin had a semi on though all the time he was trying to ask his question.

So now I give you ol’ Justin himself providing the perfect combination of the two:

Obama impresses at the press conference

He was professorial and his answers were way too long, but that was probably tiredness.

Narrative? What narrative? But wait, there’s more:

Earlier, at a behind-the-scenes briefing, an official had been talking about how marvellously Mr Obama had performed in the meetings and everyone including the official laughed at the sheer reckless joy of a White House person being able to make that case to the press with (initially) a straight face.

The point is that this man is not the creation of spin doctors. There is a basic veracity about him. He looks solid.

No, Justin, read Martin’s comment to find out what’s…er…solid.

And this is the kind of stellar work that got ol’ Justin the Today job.

We are now witnessing an all-out effort by the BBC to determine (‘influece’ is not strong enough) the outcome of ther next british general election. However, the polls are quite stubborn which suggests that the BBC’s powers may be waning in the face of alternative sources of information. Now, with this bias cemented as political propaganda, what will Dave’s Cons do? Will the Conservatives break out of the BBC’s bonds and pledge to end their rule of the airwaves?
