96 TEARS.

I’ve been away all day and just back but have listened to the BBC at several times and the coverage of the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough football crowd disaster was omnipresent. I remember watching the story unfold – it was undeed a terrible event and I feel sorry for all those bereaved families BUT the relentless MOPERY emanating from Liverpool and the BBC’s slavish coverage of it was over the top. Over on A Tangled Web, one of my fellow writers, Mike Cunningham, also picked up on the scale of the BBC coverage. Wondered what you reckon?

Perhaps Red is a Beeboid planting Nazis-loving pieces for the BBC to quote should they need to.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again; allowing people to say what they like is very enlightened of the people behind B-BBC but it plays into the hands of the BBC. All they need to do is quote the BNPers and people like Red to make this site look like a haunt for the vile and stupid.

Red and ady are speaking truth to the power of the Jewish Lobby. There have been plenty of accusations that this is a Jew-dominated blog. In fact, I remember some Beeboid or other suggesting there was a bit of paid support for Israel among a few commenters.

The BBC would never point to Red or those making similar comments as evidence that B-BBC is full of wackos. The BBC largely agrees with them on the issue of Israel (although not on other issues, from what I can tell) far more than it would agree with the rest of us. That says more about the BBC than it does about this blog.

People should be free to say they’re turning to the BNP out of desperation. If they can still hang out here and tolerate the Jews and non-demonizers of Israel, that sort of puts the lie to the idea of the BNP being full-on anti-Semitic.

As a United fan I remember watching in the stretford end as those loveably scouse rogues made hilarious airplane gestures at united fans year in year our (reference to the United players that died in the munich air crash!)

Once Hillsborough happened they didn’t seem to find death so funny? Will we be remembering in hushed tones the dead of Munich and also the 39 Juventus fans who died at the hands of Liverpool at Heysel? no didn’t think so.

Cheeky scousers, license to be funny ~ god bless em, salt of the earth ya know.

David, Im not sure I agree with the tail end of your last post. The B.N.P are certainly not philo- Semetic, and I would trust them in power as much as I could throw a Merkava MBT. In fact I would leave. Your concluding sentence sounds rather optimistic. The fact that sane, decent and increasingly, intelligent people are actively considering even voting for a fascist party shows the parlous state of British democracy in 2009 and voter alienation. Unforunately, much of it down to NuLabs insidious re- arrangement of political power in the hands of minorities with a belief system which is incompatible with democracy and “The West”. That scares me.

Careful or glj will brand you as a racist bigot. Goodness knows how he comes to that conclusion but he does. No one but no one is allowed to poke fun at the world capital of self pity, not even micky mousers who are fed up with the whole mawkish performance commemorating the result of a bunch of drunks without tickets forcing their way in.
When Liverpool hold an annual Heysel memorial then they might get a little sympathy from me.

I was rather hoping LFC did make official recognition of Heysel as a club and community, even if it was modest and low key. Any memorial plaques, links with Heysel?
Hey this is not trying to be provocative. Im just not too up on the subject and am curious.

I hear what you’re saying, and I certainly won’t argue your assessment of the BNP. I just think that nobody here who has talked about leaning towards the BNP is doing it for any of the reasons the BBC tells me they would.

I’ve said before that I don’t think the BNP is in any danger of achieving power, and that I see it as more of a “Le Pen Moment” for the UK. Although the British are pretty much less likely to round up their Jews before anyone asks them to than the French.

If the Conservatives did anything other than pander to the soft end of the Left, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion anyways. So I’m not so pessimistic.

It is indeed. Mine boils down to a gratifyingly simplistic “f**k the lot of ’em!” mantra.

Exactly. Sometime back, on another site, I was round flamed for suggesting that the BNP were pulling in the voters because they were the only party to face up to subjects (principally immigration) that all the main poltical parties refused to even think about. I was called “racist”, “BNP sympathiser/member”, “bigot” (wrong on all counts) for even daring to suggest that all the main parties should at least be thinking about thinking about immigeration.

How do you counter that mindset?

There are 2 million plus muslims in Britain and 300k Jews. If you bare in mind the percieved (and often very real) antipathy of muslims for Jews it is not hard to see why the BNP pretend not to be anti Jewish.

It may well claim not to be against Jews but that doesn’t mean it ain’t so.

As to the BBC not being interested in this site well it depends how many hits B-BBC make against them. If this site becomes a thorn in the BBCs side then I have no doubt as to how it will respond. The BBCs usual M.O after losing the argument is character assassination.

The BBC has an audience of 30+ million Brits and countless others worldwide. This site seems to have a dozen regular posters and maybe a couple of hundred lurkers. Makes David vs Goliath seem like a fair fight.

Only public campaigning for a boycott of the licence fee would show up on their radar.

Actually, this blog has been on their radar for some time, and not just one time.

For a tiny blog of extremists, totally obscure and everything, it’s weird how defenders of the indefensible always manage to find it when certain issues hit the front pages. Like clockwork.

    From the first link:

“In two years there’s only been one piece of BBC content highlighted by Biased BBC where I thought there was a real problem. There have been three or four where I have thought they might have half a point. But these have been sloppy journalism or poor phrasing, not bias. Considering the huge amount of web pages and other content that the BBC publishes, and that we’re human beings who sometimes make mistakes, not a bad record. Biased BBC proves its opposite; the BBC is not biased.”

As small victories go, that was bleeding miniscule!

Are you sure you meant to post that in defence of this site?!

Now you’re just moving the goal posts. Or perhaps you didn’t actually comprehend what you were looking at.

If they said “in two years”, that means they were following for that long, no? Do you not understand that this means they were following things here?

You claimed that the BBC never takes notice of this blog. I have provided two separate links which prove that they have been paying attention for quite some time.

Their opinion on how successful we are in changing BBC behavior has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that they have indeed been following this blog for a long while. Instead, you grabbed onto one little item and ran with it, claiming that it somehow disproves my statement that the BBC has noticed this site before. That’s moving the goal posts.

We’ve had a few actual Beeboids spend plenty of time here debating various things. Nick Reynolds, Martin Belam, and David Gregory, to name the ones who come here openly. In addition, a fairly high up editor/producer type used to spend a lot of time here under the alias of John Reith. Further, a part-time Beeboid still visits occasionally under the alias “Sarah Jane”. Other Beeboids from News Online and the IT department have stuck their heads in from time to time.

If you have any integrity, you’ll spend some time looking at the archives of this blog. You’ll see plenty of visits from actual BBC people. The links I have already provided are proof that the BBC has been keeping an eye on this place.

Clinging onto one item where one Beeboid says we’ve only actually changed their behavior one time doesn’t deny my statement at all. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Put the goal posts back where they were, please.

I didn’t claim that the BBC never takes notice of this blog. I’m sure that the odd bored exec or journo reads it to fill the odd empty 15 minutes, but, let’s face it, every day it’s the same old litany.

The best that could be said for this blog is Dr. Johnson’s “A fly, Sir, may sting a stately horse and make him wince; but, one is but an insect, and the other is a horse still.”

Now, if this blog’s owners were to publicly advocate and agitate for a campaign of licence fee non-payment, it might even draw blood.
