THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME!

Hello and welcome to the brand new Biased BBC site! It’s a revolution in design and I hope you will have a look around and settle in to this new look site.

Of course these things take a lot of work and that’s why my first responsibility is to express my sincere thanks to Geoff – he from All Seeing Eye – without whose enthusiasm, good humour and sustained effort this would not have been possible. I also want to publicly thank G.O.T. (Warning; sweary blog!) for his excellent and visionary work here. We owe these two fine gentlemen thanks for bringing this work to fruition and I doff my cap to both. This is also a work in progress so please bear with us as we finesse and complete. Now, to deal with the BBC…

It’s a bit in-yer-face for my taste. I like bulldogs though.

    Gosh,

If I’m reading you correctly we can still access the old comments. Be good if we could combine everything, and create an adequate search facility. If that means going back to Haloscan, maybe you guys could look at that. A great deal of the work of exposing BBC bias has been done over the years in the comments section, with many debates of truly historical interest, including legendary battles with the BBC’s ‘John Reith’ and other BBC staff.

This is not to detract from the blog posts themselves, but often those posts have been developed and expanded in the comments section.

As mentioned, I’m not sure if something like Google search is necessary. The blog is now very slow to load on my old system. My fault, I know, but other blogs load faster.

TT if we could find out who the account holder is over on haloscan then in theory (IN THEORY) they should still be there and its only a matter of connecting them up.

The whole idea of building from within and click to read more inclusion was to allow for easily loading. I read in some parts of britain speed on the internet was excessively slow.

We could go back to the old blogger style with an extra side bar if needed or simply a widening for writing but whether we go back or not those comments ought to still be there. It ought to have been checked out before the download, that was a serious error but may be fixable.

I guess communication is the key here.

If anyone could find a google cached page of the old style bbc in order to see and replicate the side bar I’d be grateful, I’m uploading at present and I’m a bit slow at searching. Speed is of the essence to get to it before the crawler is updated.

I don’t know if anyone else is having trouble with this new comment system but it really isn’t working out for me. I’ve used Blogger comments on many occasions before with no trouble but this time it’s really going haywire. It’s now not letting me sign into my account, and previous to that it was refusing to either preview or post anything. Hitting either button would just load the comments again without posting my comment. I’ve had to post this as anonymous to get through.

I believe Natalie Solent and Andrew (don’t know his surname) were the original people here.

I communicated with Andrew some time ago at this address, so I don’t know if it is still valid:

    biasedbbc@googlemail.com

Anyway, it looks like you guys are on the case, so good luck!

Don’t panic. All the comments are still there.
A simple search will get you there, for example, David Preiser comments could be found
    here.
I think it’s not possible to import Haloscan comments to Blogger (there’s a script for importing comments to WordPress and MT but not Blogger). However, it is possible to have both Haloscan and Blogger comments on the site.

Hi all. Great new look I think. I have checked the Haloscan comments, and of course the archive there is still intact. Over 4000 pages of comments, actually. I would think it would be good to import them and I hope that will happen. Comments are one of the greatest strengths here. As is the democratic approach we’ve tended to take.

The important point for those concerned- they are not lost.

DV is spot on when he says he is “simply providing content and others are able to do likewise. If they don’t, is that my fault?”

I have been less active on the blog myself recently- DV is sharp and committed; a lot of what he says is what I want to say- but shorter ;-).

I think people should appreciate the great work he does, and the great work that has gone into the new look, and if they want to get involved more upfront (ie. providing content) they should email BIased BBC (dedicated email in the right sidebar created at David’s initiative) and I am sure reasonable and enthusiastic volunteers will be welcomed to add content to the main page.

ed there shouldn’t be a problem. Are you the account holder? Blogger allows you to turn comments off for just such a thing.
