I’m guessing that “Woman’s Hour” may not feature on every B-BBC readers daily repertoire of essential listening! That said, I happened to tune into it the other day and was regaled by Jenni Murray making the statement “Suppose you are walking along worrying about carbon emissions and you go to buy a punnet of blackberries”... Yeah, right. Then I heard a trailer for the show today which will feature Margaret Beckett whose “career has been long and illustrious”. Really? I seem to have missed the illustrious element but I guess there is no bias in the BBC assertion. Whilst there are overt politically biased programmes like Today, the issue is that the sheer volume of BBC output provides a veritable constellation of bias all over the broadcasting spectrum, and Woman’s Hour is just one example. By the way, why is there not a “Men’s Hour”?

My God, it’s like they’re talking about my life. They’re so in touch with me, and no doubt the majority of the rest of the British population. Truly the BBC License Tax is worth paying.

Last night I saw an advertisement for this weeks coming panorama show. Race hate on the doorstep, with pictures of muslims on there being victimised, right before this weeks question time with Nick Griffith….
Margaret Beckett is a very experienced and able politician. One may not agree with all her politics, but a good role model for women in politics, I don’t see any bias in that.
A ‘Men’s Hour’ programme will become illegal under Labour’s, and Harman’s ‘Equality Bill’; discrimination in favour of men is illegal, whereas discrimination in favour of women is the law.
The BBC is pleased to find itself in the political vanguard on discrimination in favour of women at present, but the BBC will happily adapt its political stance to discriminate against women when Sharia law is fully implemented in Britain.
Why would we need a Men’s hour? The whole point of woman’s hour is that it keeps a bunch of po-faced, middle class, menopausal bints distracted while their husbands ‘take the dog for a walk’.
Taking the dog for a walk being a euphimism for ‘banging a prozzie.’
An hour is nowhere near long enough to convey how full of win being a man is anyway.

you are sure that it wasn’t satire, David? the carbon emissions thing I mean – sounds rather silly, even if it weren’t, people are allowed to mention the issue – rather you should be demonstrating that there wasn’t a counter-argument 2 seconds later
as for Beckett – a common courtesy extended to most guests I’m sure, and as far as Labour go she is one of their most illustrious politicians, I can’t stand her but I would still concede she is the most successful female politician after thatcher
It’s true there is no men’s hour – but I’d say that’s an issue in broader society trying to ‘balance’ the world, we have women’s only car insurance, women-only gyms, woman-only pressure groups, a ‘minister for women’ but not men – what do we get? Fathers4justice is about it – I guess it’s technically inequal, but I’m pretty sure the beeb are on safe ground here
The only thing Illustrious about Beckett is the fact her face looks like the arse end of HMS Illustrious.
As for a mens hour, god could you imagine what it would be like? camp left wing nonces talking about how their heels kill them and are leather trousers OK for cycling.

And she still likes eating carrots from your hand as you stroke her nose.
Woman’s Hour is PSB at its very best. Middle class, home counties women who don’t need to work are a minority which the BBC should cater for. No commercial broadcaster could afford to.
But why does the government need to tax us to provide trash like Eastenders and Casualty? Plenty of similar rubbish is available on commercial channels.
