WHEN A DEBATE IS NOT A DEBATE

The BBC allows all shades of opinion, from A to B! With our first past the post system no longer looking so good for Labour, time for the Today programme to have a debate on alternatives. So, around 7.51am this morning bring on Hillary Benn and Chris Huhne to cover the topic – what could be more balanced than that? All shades of political opinion…!

    What BBC politically censors:

“General Election 2010: Gordon Brown will be in power for ever if Nick Clegg gets PR”

    (by Boris Johnson).

True but do you really think a Conservative spokesman would have contributed a sterling defence of FPTP?  It would have been an “one the one hand but on the other” equivocation.  After all we mustn’t upset all those phantom voters out there who, apparently, can’t wait to change their allegiance and vote for Cameron.  Also, even with a Conservative involved, still nobody would have asked the question (not the Today interviewer certainly) why Brown and the LibDems (and the Conservatives?  Who knows?) are very happy to have a referendum on the voting system – for which there is little demand out here in the real world – but refuse to contemplate a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty or the EU for which there is a genuine desire among the electorate.

The point is WE the people should decide the voting system, not politicians. For example to me the most important thing is to stop the jocks and co from voting at Westminster on English only affairs, that is where the Tories should be attacking Labour on.

Agree re the awfulness of the Cons but nonetheless they SHOULD have been in the debate if for no other reason than they are likely to form the next government!!

They were both on radio 5 as well. The BBC is trying to match make the Lib Dems and Labour.

However, the Tories will still be the biggest party after the election and if they are not part of a Government especially as if you take out the jocks from Labour and the Libs they would be in a minority there will be a riot in England.

The way Cameron is going he will be lucky to win an election. He seems to help Labour no end with his Labour EU policies not to mention his efforts to outbid the Lib Dems on “green” issues.

The EU runs this country, it is therefore irrelevent voting for any party which does not want to come out. Brown or Cameron puppets of the EU take your pick and get the same.

5Live breakfast had three consecutive mornings with Labour ministers a couple of weeks ago. No Tory of course. But St Vince made an appearance once.

It’s one of the 50 questions I put to the Controller when challenged to by the 5Live blogs editor here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/5live/2010/02/victoria-derbyshire-on-faceboo.shtml#P92144248

A view which BBC debars routinely:

“Why should Lib Dems vote twice?” (John Redwood)

Absolutely atrocious bias. Not only was there nobody to support FPTP but Benn was allowed to attack the Conservatives and to get away with saying that Labour was united in support of the new proposal.

Heads up people. Richard Bacon has some ex speech writer on right now who worked with George W Bush and Cheney. Needless to say it’s just a piss take of Bush.

I wonder if the BBC will run ‘Brownism’s’ and have Andrew Rawnsley on when his book about the mong’s bunker comes out?

Same thing on News 24 today: the welsh bloke had two academics on satellite discussing AV – both 100% pro AV, no mention atall of the cynical way Labour are to change the system just before an election (clue: hung parliament, sop to the LibDems to keep Gordo in power). One academic was spouting complete nonsense about how our current system was unfair and how European countries with PR had much better governments – these assertions were accepted without question by Welshy and the other prof. The only thing missing was a ‘Vote Labour!’ message on the ticktape running along the bottom of the screen.

So why not get rid of all the seats around the country and just lump all the votes in to one pot so that if you get 30% of the popular votes you then get 30% of Parliament?

And to be a ruling Government you have to have 51% of the vote?

Honestly all this bullshit about FPTP being unfair makes my skin crawl. What is not fair is anything OTHER than FPTP.
