A Biased BBC reader contacts me with the following astute observation…
“….the last line in a report on an IDF soldier who posteddetails of a military operation on Facebook reads: “Reports on whether the targets of the raids aremilitants or civilians are often contradictory.” The article thereby seeks to imply that the IDF targetscivilians for which there is simply no evidence.
Glad someone has brought that up.
I am still in denial about what I read. And its been 36 hours.
The most outrageously casual piece of slander I have seen for some months.

I can see how in relation to the preceding paragraph the BBC would try to spin that they’re reflecting both sides of the argument, but it just wouldn’t stand up to textual analyses.
I’ve sent this email to cross party Friends of Israel in the Commons and Euro Parliament:-
Dear Hon & Rt Hon Members,
I was disturbed to read the last line in the following report:-
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8549099.stm
It covers an Israeli raid being aborted because an IDF soldier revealed it in advance on Facebook.
The last line states:
“Reports on whether the targets of the raids are militants or civilians are often contradictory.”
In the context of the previous paragraph it might be argued this is just very sloppy journalism, but I dont think this would stand up. I would submit that this is just yet another example of casual BBC slander against the State of Israel to lead readers to believe Israel targets civilians.
I implore Hon & Rt Hon Members to raise in Parliament the perniciousness of BBC coverage of Israel. Such casual slander against the Jewish State can only be borne of anti-semitism.

If the Jews are murderous the Palestinians are ‘indirect’.
Israel ‘risking peace talks’ with West Bank building The peace talks as the article acknowledges are ‘proximity talks’ ie the Palestinians talk to the Americans who talk to the Israelis.
Although the BBC admits that Hamas has rejected talks direct or indirect they never point out a salient fact. Mohammed Abbas and his government have no legal authority to have any sort of talks at all. On 9 January 2009, Abbas term as president, at least as he was originally elected. Even if the BBC accepts Abbas’s extending his term by one year [Hamas doesn’t] that, too, ran out a month ago.
In this article the BBC, as always, inserts the boilerplate
All settlements in the the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are considered illegal under international law, although Israel disputes this. Somehow the illegality of a leader holding even indirect talks after his term has expire escapes them.
