One of the relentless goals of the greenies is to hit the poor. They are driving up the cost of energy and green taxes in the lunatic belief that CO2 causes global warming; the consequence is millions are being forced into fuel poverty. They have banned DDT and because of it, millions have died of malaria. Now they have another target – the cooking stoves of 3bn people worlwide, which according to the jackboot administrators of the UN, produce something called “black” carbon, the latest greenie villain of the peace. Note how BBC alarmist-in-chief Roger Harrabin says the effect has not been quantified but nevertheless, the fumes must be scrubbed and capped and contained because nameless, faceless scientists and bureaucrats say so. The next thing that will happen is that schemes will be drawn up – costing billions – to provide useless new stoves, and yet another aid/manufacturing/subsidy scam will be in full scale production.
I’m all for making homes safer, particularly as thousands in the developing world do die in avoidable fires, but the way forward is to provide cheap, reliable electricity – and the greenies are doing everything in their powers to prevent that because they hate fossil fuels.
Black carbon? Well it would be wouldn’t it. If these fires were spewing out the other type of carbon, diamond rings would be a damn sight cheaper.

Black carbon is only the way it is because of hundreds of years of oppression by white carbon. In other words, black carbon doesn’t know any better, can’t help it, and mustn’t be made to feel responsible. White carbon is the real perpetrator. Look at it – minding its own business, paying its taxes, abiding by the law, not looking for any trouble. What’s it up to? I’m not sure, but whatever it is, it’s wrong. Evil and wrong.

Has white carbon apologised to black carbon yet ?

Hasn’t any of these scientists actually considered the probable real cause of global warming? That is the fact that the smog is being reduced worldwide; clean air. When the smog covered large parts of the planet, the sun had less ability to penetrate and warm the earth, hence cooler temperatures. Now the air is clearer, the sun can heat the earth as much as it can.
Ergo, clean air causes global warming.

There’s no evidence that it contributes to Climate change, if Harrabin has evidence (peer reviewed) he should link to it, otherwise the idiot should shut up.
His comment further down the page says it all
The role of black carbon in climate change is still being quantified and will be the source of debate for the next IPCC report. Some scientists believe it is the second largest contributor to climate change after CO2, with upper estimates suggesting it could be responsible for as much as 55% of the warming from CO2.
Still being quantified? That means they don’t know so any figure is a guess and mine is as good as the buffooned one at the BBC or any other halfwit from Anglia Polytechnic.
Oh by the way here’s a picture of the Climate Research Unit’s new offices, appropriate to their professionalism I think.

“…with upper estimates suggesting it could be responsible for as much as 55% of the warming from CO2.“
And lower estimates suggesting it might be responsible for NO warming? Of cours eyou know the alternative…starvation for thousands, but on’t let that stop wankers like Roger the Dodger spouting shit.
At least it lets those cows off the hook.

“Black carbon”???!!!!
That’s usually how it comes!!

These stoves are a major cause of lung disease (especially in the women and children most exposed to their smoke), and kerosene is a factor in many unintended and otherwise accidents.
Whilst I don’t buy the global warming argument, from a public health point of view alternatives would be very welcome – if you have to claim green credentials to do this then so be it.

How about doing something about ventilation instead? If we continue down the path of these Warmist claims, you won’t be allowed to use the fireplace in your own, well-ventilated modern home.

“.. if you have to claim green credentials to do this then so be it.” So this is how it works. You don’t beleive the rubbish spouted by Harrabin and his comrades, but if you can bring about some good it will compensate for all the misery and harm caused to millions. The ends justify the means.

Alex: Fine, but what about all the other hazards these people are exposed to? Asbestos for example iscommonly used in places like India
http://www.thelancetglobalhealthnetwork.com/archives/711
But I don’t see Harrabin spouting on about India’s continued use of Asbestos?
Harrabin just needs to shut up, the fool doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Cheap reliable electricity frees the poor, it feeds the masses and brings hope and light to the darkness of poverty and hopelessness.
Cheap relaible electricity is the foundation of civilisation and it ushers in a new bright world full of hope. The only way to prosperity and freedom is the by means of a cheap reliable energy matrix and a free market free trade world. Nothing else will work.
NO WONDER THE ECOFASCISTS HATE THE VERY IDEA OF CHEAP RELIABLE ENGERY.
The ecofascists hate the thought of free people entering a new world of industrial progress because a free people simply do not need the authoritarian ecofascist ideology of oppression and diktat and slavery and fear and obediance.
Think of the hundreds of billions of dollars wasted on the AGW fraud and the tranzi aid scam, now picture what half that money could have done if only we had spent it on building great big coal fired power stations and spreading the electrity network as far as possible to every corner of the earth, no food dumping or wasteful aid scams just electricity cheap enough for the poorest people to afford. What a difference for all of us eh? Power to pump water and to power lights and build the basics of civilisation.
No arrogant UN fraudsters and busybodies needed just cheap plentiful energy delivered to those who need it. thats all that is needed you see, just the spark of hope for the hopeless and the poor will do the rest.

Nearly time to light up our wood burning kitchen range for the winter. Oh, joy, I LOVE carbon, the blacker the better. I suppose now there’ll be carbon police breaking down your door and carting you off to the gulags for burning the toast.
I don’t usually swear, unless I’m under severe pressure, but to hell with it – I am truly fucking fed up with this shit

And these nice new cooking stoves for 3bn people are available for sale from where Hilary ?
However, you’ll have to get the BBC to deliver mine, as I’m far too ill go outside seeing as how I’m suffering from Black Kitchen Death.

Shame isn’t it when you are looking for a sensible informed debate and most people seem to avoid the opportunity. Cassandra King has a point but in practical terms we are possibly 100 years from that. I have no idea what a “BLACK” stove is or what the alternative is, so much bullshit. If I live in the outback of Africa and I have a cooking stove and I can work it f£$% the rest of you, I probably have no idea you even exist.

You may have no idea we exist now, but you certainly will do after the UN and myriad wasteful NGOs show up at your tent flap and force you into cooking food only when weather permits rather than give you (and by “give” I mean “redistribute other people’s money on a whim so I can force something down your poor little dark-skinned, inferior-to-Hillary-Clinton-and-in-need-of-her-care throat so you can breed more starving people in need of someone to redistribute even more money your way”) a bit of ventilation so all that harmful smoke (a legitimate concern, if I’m honest) goes outside where it belongs.
Oh, sorry, I forgot about the Global Warming/Climate Change/Global Climate Disruption angle. Screw you (the hypothetical African outback denizen, I mean), then. You have no more choice in your behavior than the rest of us, according to Hillary and our betters at the BBC.

A bit off topic, but then again perhaps not…
This morning’s R4 news had an item about some summit regarding who has what rights to exploit resources beneath the arctic. The opening gambit was “Because it’s getting warmer in the arctic, and the ice is melting, countries are eager to exploit reserves…”
Did someone tell them to say that, or do they really believe it? Either way, it’s false, so why broadcast it?

Yes the BBC World TV hourly news had an extended fvckwitted piece on this today, where they again presented global warming as indisputable fact. Why are half-wits allowed to broadcast highly disuptable bvllshit as fact ?!?
