What’s needed is something like fixmystreet.

The BBC complaints process hides behind an awful interface, and its designed to keep complaints secret so other people can read them.

Biassed BBC should setup a website where you can put complaints to the BBC. It should replicate the BBC form. It then creates an email address just for that complaint. When the BBC replies, the reply comes back to the email address and is put on the website. Statistics as to the time taken, type of response can be monitored. In particular the BBC makes it very difficult to respond to their replies. In my opinion deliberately so. With a standard website, the BBC can be sent reminders if they don’t respond etc.

Lets get it all in the open.

      Nick –  good post.
The BBC complaints process is incumbent with a non-process Dr. Joseph Goebbels would have been proud of.
Nick, I’m guessing you are younger than me.
I was young, I needed the money, it was in the days of black and white, I prostituted myself with others to sit around a wireless and be subjugated to something so harrowing I can barely speak it’s name, I think it was called “Feedback”.
What happened was there was nothing negative came out into the open because the BBC is wonderful.
Indeed everyone wanted to pay more for their licence fee. Some people wanted to sell their house and entire contents and send the proceeds to Alistair Milne.
So whilst I’m on your side Nick, you don’t seem anywhere near left-wing enough for the BBC to pay you any attention, let alone reply to you.

That is a great idea. I have never made a complaint to the BBC for the very reasons you outline.  But, if your system was up and running , I would use it .

      Nick

I think the most important point you make is that if you go to the bother of making a complaint,  the BBC will eventually answer it by email.  Usually an anodyne weaselly reply.  But the BBC email states that you cannot reply to the email.  That is – any replies are not answered.

To criticise the BBC reply – you have to start the whole process again –  by which time many weeks will have passed.

In other words – the entire complaints procedure is DESIGNED to let them kick virtually everything into touch.

This is a measure of the arrogance of the BBC.

      …………………….

The other day,  someone posted here a link to a website that was urging people to email their MPs to protest against the BBC cuts.  We could just spend a few moments adapting the letter to support the cuts – and then it would be routed to the relevant MP.  I did just that,  got a stock reply from Zac Goldsmith defending the BBC (typical soft Tory line)  – but I was then able to shoot a reply back to him saying he was being naive,  arguing that the licence fee shopuld be abolished in favour of subscription,.  pointing out the huge bias at the BBC (he suffered a bad case during the election) – and saying I was sick and tired of all the BBC propaganda on climate change.

He may or may not reply.  But at least I have got my twopennyworth in.  And if he does reply – I can contradict him again if necessary.

That is what is called “answerable to the people” – at least a little bit.  The BBC thinks itself way above all that.  Delay – then send some non-reply – and pull up the drawbridge is their approach.

I dont think we should complain to the BBC about its bias.  The bias is deliberate.  We should complain to the Conservative Party that they do something about.

The only thing I see worth doing is to notify the BBC of the complaints you make against them for logging purposes, so they can’t say they dont get complaints.

Very good thinking there, Nick. Excellent idea
though I hate the BBC complaints system with its form filling, its procedures and its po-faced laborious government prose. It’s like when your computer is running slowly and your keyboard is sticking – it’s just plain irritating and holds you up. There needs to be something less leaden and more fleet of foot.

BBC RADIO  COMMISSIONING EDITOR FOR COMEDY AND ENTERTAINMENT PRE APPROVES CALLING THE TORIES CUNTS ON THE NEWS QUIZ.

Further to the Sandi Toksvig “joke” commented on here not long ago I quote verbatim from the complaint response.

“It’s rare for BBC Radio  comedy to allow wordplays or jokes that include a reference to the ‘c’ word but this was a joke which would not have been understandable to children and was used in a topical, satirical show. The joke was also referred to the Radio  Commissioning Editor for Comedy and Entertainment who approved it on this basis.”

That’s all right then as long as it’s about the Tories then no problem. Strange how they cannot use the actual word in print.

JANET STREET PORTER in the Daily Mail today (23.10.) with a very interesting explanation of BBC speak. Does anybody have any clues as to who this BBC executive is? It’s no wonder that people such as J. Ross are defended by the BBC heads with alacrity!

“During my years at the BBC, I endured endless sexist comments from a male chauvinist pig who worked in light entertainment.

He would frequently start meetings with the inimitable refrain: ‘Welcome chaps (I was generally the only woman present) . . . I’m going to put my d*** on the table.’ That meant he had a really good (i.e. exceedingly vulgar) idea we’d all have to sign up to. After I left, I started writing a comic novel about a woman who ran a TV channel. In the opening scene, the aforementioned BBC executive is caught on camera committing an act of extreme depravity. Not surprisingly, my literary agent refused to handle the manuscript, but I’ve still got it, ready to put into action when I’m in the mood.”

    3. Developed educational programs (called ‘education for sustainable development’) incorporating biodiversity teaching intended for children, also created The Green Wave program to reach out to children

    4. Developed so called Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) toolkits and workshops in order to “create broadly based support for the issues” by giving advice like this: “To involve people, nothing is more powerful than working on their emotions”

The UN is manipulating and attempting to control the way we and our children think. We have already seen it starting with the BBC reports from Nagoya.

‘Roobeedoo’ in the previous open thread and Biodegradable in the original thread http://biasedbbc.tv/2010/10/guilty-but-yet-victims.html have noted that he BBC have now changed the headline on the murder of the alleged paedophile.  John Horne Tooke also managed to get a cache of the original:-

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:qIQamSHktqoJ:www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11465771%3Fprint%3Dtrue+http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11465771&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a
It would be nice to think that the removal of comment from the piece is down to B-BBC, but given the outrageous editorial comments by Chris Summers about the CPS I would imagine the CPS made strong representations to the BBC about the matter.  Let us remember, Chris Summers is the BBC reporter whose understanding of ‘journalistic integrity’ is handling complaints for election bias while standing as a Labour council candidate (since elected).

What is fascinating about the amendment is the following BBC comment at the foot of the piece:-

Note: October 22. This story has been amended to change the headline and the introductory paragraphs to ensure it is factually based and could not be interpreted as commentary on the circumstances surrounding the case by the BBC.

As far as I’m aware this is unprecedented, which leads me to believe that the CPS did indeed put the ‘legal frighteners’ on the BBC.  It’s a clear rap on he knuckles for Mr Summers and his editor.  Conservative Party, please note.

I suspect that on this occasion the absence of Tories from AM was a tactical decision on their part. Anything that they say will be viewed through the BBC’s prism (i.e. all public spending is morally essential and all public works are carried out by selfless public servants with efficiencies that the private sector cannot ever hope to match!) and used to drive rifts into the coalition.

Just imagine the potential for an ambush if “Saint” Suzi Leather provided detailed crib sheet for Marr on all the individual victims of the “cuts”, which no one seems keen to accept will lead to inexorable increase in expenditure.

It’s now apparent that control of vast swathes of the British economy are safely out of reach of the incoming government (Overseas Aid, Interest Repayments, Public Sector Pensions, PFI Contracts etc. etc.) Any Tory turning up for an interview is in danger of having to disown his own government or being shown up like a rabbit the headlights.

An independent democratic party to implement the small ‘c’ conservatism that crosses party lines might well remind the Tories of the meaning of conservatism, but even less sign of that ever getting started.

Yesterday there was a shocking bit of pure BBC wish fulfilment bias.  On radio 4 there was a play about a Jewish terrorist (Stern Gang) and a jewsish double agent in 1947 trying to bomb British officials to get the British out of Palistine.  A lot was based on truth but there were nice anachronistic lines like ‘I was travelling on the tube with a bomb in my rucksack’, they did recce work on double decker busses,  a British Major tortured people during interrogation (it was alright though, he we injured by a letter bomb) and the mention of the murder of two british soldiers by the stern gang after they were kidnapped was topped by violent ‘fascist’ rioting in London and Liverpool  (Evil fascists featured heavily).  You get the message.  Now some of this is true, but it carried a lot of BBC freight.  However, the real clincher was the ‘entirely unexpected twist’ to the plot.  The gang was infiltrated by a double agent – who was betrayed by the real enemy.  The most slimy, cowardly whining and manipulative British Establishment – who wanted the Jooos to kill Ernest Bevan because he was an evil socialist and thus save ‘the empire’ (boo hiss)

I could almost hear the group onanism going on when the commissioning producer discussed the play with the author.  “It has everything” he gasps, “a clumsy comparison between Jews and Palistinians (the terrorists has a ‘justification’ for their behaviour) and it shows the British establishment to be cowardl faschists. How about a series, Spooks 1947!”

      Jewish terrorists
Cowardly and manipulative British establishment trying to kill socialists

The inevitable Wikihacks Have Your Say:

Wikileaks has released almost 400,000 secret US military records, which suggest US commanders ignored evidence of torture by Iraqi forces. What is your reaction to these new leaks?

The documents also reveal many previously unreported instances in which US forces killed civilians at checkpoints and during operations.

A US Defence Department spokesman dismissed the documents as raw observations by tactical units, which were only snapshots of tragic, mundane events

Naturally, the comments reflect the message pumped out by the BBC since even the first US boot hit the ground in Afghanistan:  The US is guilty of mass murder, blah, blah, blah.

Left unreported by the BBC, and not included in their incitement to hatred on the HYS page:

Wikileaks nails the wild Lancet scare

The Lancet exaggerated Iraqi deaths by some 600%.  Furthermore, the Wikihacks – presented as the Gospel truth by the BBC – show that in fact the death toll in Iraq from 2003 until whenever the numbers end is less than the number of deaths in South Africa during the same period.

How about it, BBC?  Is it a quagmire?  Should we start boycotting the South African government again?  Is it a lost cause? Do we call for the arrest of every South African leader since then for violating human rights and mass murder?

    But wait – there’s more:

Wikileaks Show WMD Hunt Continued in Iraq –  With Surprising Results

By late 2003, even the Bush White House’s staunchest defenders were starting to give up on the idea that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

But for years afterward, WikiLeaks’ newly-released Iraq war documents reveal, U.S. troops continued to find chemical weapons labs, encounter insurgent specialists in toxins, and uncover weapons of mass destruction.

An initial glance at the WikiLeaks war logs doesn’t reveal evidence of some massive WMD program by the Saddam Hussein regime — the Bush administration’s most (in)famous rationale for invading Iraq. But chemical weapons, especially, did not vanish from the Iraqi battlefield. Remnants of Saddam’s toxic arsenal, largely destroyed after the Gulf War, remained. Jihadists, insurgents and foreign (possibly Iranian) agitators turned to these stockpiles during the Iraq conflict — and may have brewed up their own deadly agents.

I can already feel the goal posts moving….

Instead, the BBC focuses on a handful of “torture” cases and civilian deaths, and censors the rest.  I will now hit “Post” and spend the next several minutes shouting cursing the BBC, calling out the sexual procilivities of their parents, and questioning their genetic makeup.

If these two facts aren’t the subject of Newsnight, Panorama, and Today for the next week, BBC News will have lost any remaining credibility they may still have.

With the vultures already on lean fare as they try to spot something to whinge about and blow up in sad attempts to project minor inaccuracies or flippant asides as site cred killers (a basis that would get the BBC, with its ongoing, major abuses shut down in a few minutes), is there any chance that, after the nth time they get pwned they have the good grace to slink away for a while?

Though I guess there is some function in being reminded just how weak the support cases for almost all the BBC’s output now is, and keeping on digging does serve a purpose. At least, if self-destructive, it is more polite than the usual pompous one-liners, ad homs, and huffing and puffing that try to target, equally to poor effect, the person rather than what they are saying.

Sadly, unlike the pitch controlling mechanisms enjoyed by BBC employees (well, when running their editorial), the inability to go back an ‘evolve’ a howler rather means one has to live with the consequences.

    Off topic

I missed the opportunity to enlighten BBBC followers under the “Wrong kind of mud thread” but with one of my other anoraks on I would like to assist in spreading understanding of “leaves on the line” and “the wrong kind of snow”.

In steam days railway cuttings and embankments were assiduously cleared of vegetation to prevent lineside fires in dry spells. As an economy measure since dieselisation vegatation has been allowed to grow; initially this was not too much of a problem in leaf fall season as the train brakes were of the clasp type which at least cleaned off the mulch created when wet leaves are squashed on the rails from the wheels.

Just like many cars now have disc brakes which improve braking performance so do most trains but the mulch is not cleaned off and on several occasions trains slid past signals.

To counteract this for about 8 weeks this time of year a series of trains now run to a regular timetable jet spraying the track in locations identified as likely to cause problems.

Of course if Network Rail try to cut down the vegetation nowadays a hue and cry goes up about disturbing wildlife but most complainants basically want to maintain the screening between their property and the railway line!

The wrong kind of snow was just that. With our maritime climate the snow in the U.K. is normally the wet heavy slodgy stuff. On the occasion it caused the problem it was the very light, dry, powdery snow which does not make snowballs.

As a train travels along there is considerable suction underneath and the light snow was drawn up into the traction motors of many locomotives and unit trains. Virtually all diesel locos as well as electric locos and multiple units have axle mounted traction motors

At 7:51 this morning on Today a representative of Wikileaks was on to “discuss” – in the words of the Today site – the allegations.  I notice that in all this kerfuffle the BBC always refers to “leaks”.  I seem to recall that during the Climategate revelations the leaked info was almost always referred to on the BBC as coming from “stolen” or “hacked” emails although there is and was no proof that the leaked emails were either stolen or hacked.

Moreover, we were never (well not in my hearing) given a “discussion” on Climategate where a sole interviewee (or any interviewee?) came from the sceptical side of the non-debate.  The BBC either dealt with Climategate through the distorted lens of one of its environment correspondents – mainly Harrabin or Shukman – or dragged to the microphone one or more of the useful idiots supporting non-science in order to abuse the sceptics uninterrupted and unchallenged.

I can’t think of any Rabbi in politics (other than in Israel). I don’t know how much Shifrin really understands about the EDL or for the matter the Tea Party.

His opponent, Jonathan Friedland did make one strange assertion. He claimed that Muslims are the major target of racism and violence in the UK. Actually it is the Jews which probably explains why (at least anecdotally) the Jewish population is preparing in case they have to leave in a hurry and the Muslims are moving in.

What I object to with the BBC, is the undisguised left wing bias displayed by too many newsreaders and commentators.
I hardly watch any BBC, but I am forced to pay a telly tax, called the licence fee, to watch ITV or Sky.
If I was a Labour supporter, I would, no doubt, be delighted with the free propaganda spouted out by Paxman, Humphries, Dimbleby et al (particularly Dimbleby with his Vote Labour show, QT; and who was incidentally a member of the Bullington Club).
As I don’t support any party, I want bias free reporting of facts, not opinions. I don’t want bias by ommission such as the Tower Hamlets voting scandal going on at the moment; Or prejudiced reporting (Think Bowen on Israel).
All I want is the unvarnished Truth. Now that’s not a lot to ask of an institution that has a requirement for impartiality written into it’s Charter.
Well, as far as I can see the BBC has broken it’s charter and needs purging of it’s institutional bias.

Caught the Jeremy Vine show, and was frankly amazed… until I find out Jezza was off for the school hols to Kitsry’s villa or somesuch, being deputised for by Matthew Bannister.

It was, of course, still cuts, cuts and… CUTS all round, but this time things went a bit astray.

There was some screaming harpie from the SWP ‘debating’ by phone in counter to a rather hard-nosed but calm ‘businesswoman’ (classic JVS ‘twofer’), but Mr. B was having none of the silly SWP bint’s daft one-trick claims and even nailed her with ‘but… what is your alternative?/where’s the money to come from’ several times. And even cut off her spluttering rants and interruptions, too.

Don’t see him getting invited to chair a lucrative conference or two as a ‘thank you’ from the interest groups the BBC and its employees usually rely on to supplement meagre incomes.

Sadly, it was too good to last. Someone dashed into the edit suite to ensure every ‘we want certain views’ caller or emailer did not ask silly stuff about where the money pixie is coming from, and instead banged on about evil banks all the time.

Which is where the critiques dried up, with some rich material laid out so easily for the taking. One bozo was moaning how his sorry company was based on such a sh*te premise it was about to go under, but the banks were not lending him more to p*ss away. Er… this is what got them in the doo-doo last time, and dragged us with ’em. I fly no flag for the sorry bankers, but you can’t moan about the money pixie in one breath and then demand those we taxpayers keep bailing out lend to any daft notion no matter what.

Then it went all Jeremy Kyle with some bizarre tale about a UK granny getting shafted by her Gambian top boy.

That was dumbing down too far. But the metaphor of a bunch of less than bright UK BBC phone-in fodder going for the black with their eyes wide open and ending up in the red with the mess being pretty much for everyone else to empathise with was… apt.

They didn’t, but I have expected Aunty to advocate the taxpayer got some compo fund going for the poor dears so’s they could add another teary demographic if and when it got pulled down the line.

Although the BBC won’t tell you this, Wagner was famously nationalist and left-wing in his (relative) youth which is why, after the failure of the 1848/9 revolution in Saxony, he fled to Switzerland.  It was only in the mid-1850s – under the influence of Schopenhauer’s philosophy – that Wagner dropped the lefty part of his lunatic political beliefs.  However, he remained a vicious anti-Semite until the day he died so, from the BBC’s perspective, it wasn’t all downhill.

Didn’t they used to, when it was officially Catholics versus Protestants back in the day?  “Sectarian violence” and all that, I mean. That sort of counts. “Catholic/Protestant terrorist”? Yeah, maybe a long time ago. Don’t ever recall hearing any one described as a “Christian Terrorist”.

No doubt many people would (quite rightly) object to such a description; and yet the term “Muslim Terrorist” is ok, and furthermore (according to some), should be encouraged?

          • David Preiser (USA) says:

I did mean it was in the past.  But my point was just about mentioning the religion of the perp(s).  In that scene, the violence was done on a religious basis.  Not really “in the name of” either church, of course, and obviously there are political overtones which are ultimately more important than where one takes communion.  But the Catholic/Protestant labels were used regularly to describe those doing the violence.

What differentiates that scene from the current one, though, is that according to the ones who do the violence we all like to call “terrorism”, they’re doing it in the name of Islam, on behalf of Islam sort of thing.  In their own minds, at least.  Using the T-word for the old Troubles is a different matter, as it wasn’t really used much during that period, but has been in regular use now for quite some time.

Having said that, I wouldn’t object at all to calling a car-bombing by one of these new Real IRA dopes “Catholic Terrorism”.  It would make a lot of people squirm, for sure.  But it would open up a very interesting discussion, no?

Snubbed RI Democrat Says Obama Can Take His Endorsement and “Shove It”

The thin-faced middle-aged man dressed in bohemian black is exactly the sort of person the president will be aiming at when he goes on the Jon Stewart show mid-week, and in his weekend blitz to get out the Democratic vote.

Jon Stewart has sold himself out to support the President and fight the good fight.  He’s even going to hold a big rally – paid for by Comedy Central and Viacom – to support Him.  No comments from any Beeboids about media bias and influence here, as it’s not Fox News.

Mardell goes on to find several Democrats who voted for Him, but are disappointed because He hasn’t done enough to shift the country further to the Left.  But Mardell is worried.

Massachusetts is still an overwhelmingly liberal, Democratic state. It certainly doesn’t seem gripped by Tea Party fever. But from Bullets bar to the Cafe on the Common it is those who stay firmly sat on their bar stools and trendy metal chairs who may do the president’s party, and its agenda, the most harm.

I used to like watching CBeebies, for example, with my daughter.

Then one day the presenters sang their version of a Nursery Rhyme, called Polly Had a Dolly. (click so see lyrics)

The story of the rhyme is that Polly has a dolly who is sick, sick, sick
In the next verse, she calls for a doctor to come Quick, quick, quick
He does too, and offers a pill, pill, pill
And the story sends with the doctor promising to be back in the morning with his bill, bill, bill

    Not on Cbeebies however.

Somone somewhere obviously decided that the masses can’t be fed any positive messages about private medicine.

So they changed the ending. I can’t remember what to exactly, but it something like “And the NHS is the envy of the world, world, world.”

More BBC censorship and BS about Wikihacks:

Wikileaks Iraq war documents: the key issues

Naturally, it focuses exclusively on civilian deaths, torture, and a ilttle bit about Iran.  To some people – anti-this-war Beeboids – these are the only issues.

In reality, key issues have been censored by the BBC.

They mention the death toll, but then try to discredit the relatively low figure by pointing to Iraq Body Count.  They do not mention that there have been more deaths in South Africa during the same period as a comparison, because that would ruin the narrative.  Don’t want to put it into context or point out that the Lancet and all Beeboid statements based on it are now totally discredited, and reduce the emotional impact in anyway, right, BBC?

Also no mention of the infighting at Wikihacks HQ:

A civil war at the heart of Wikileaks has virtually paralysed the whistle-blowing website from publishing any new exposés outside of the Iraq and Afghanistan war logs, say former staffers and volunteers.

    This is what it’s about:

At least a dozen key supporters of the website are known to have left in recent months. They say Wikileaks has ignored reams of new exposés because so much attention has been paid to the Iraq and Afghan conflicts.

Assange is even getting rid of his own people if they challenge him about the failure to redact names of individuals from the documents.

Assange used his hacking skills to start Wikihacks and encourage law-breaking from insiders specifically because he is anti-this-war.  That’s his only goal, and now that it’s done, he doesn’t care about anything else.  Assange and Wkihacks used illegal methods to get this information for the express purpose of harming US interests.

No discussion of this by the BBC.  Instead, they distract you with emotional content.

Fortunately, grubby bloggers do seem to have been on hand to help this ‘journalist’ get his head around how things can, or cannot get paid for, even when it does not fall under a luvvie view of what is and isn’t worthy of support to make more affordable for all.

There’s even a nifty comment pointing out the unique funding enjoyed by his employers that seems to have passed our hero by in making his ‘argument’.

Oh dear, the BBC sound like someone shot their rent boy. Economic growth was 0.8% (double expected figures).

“This is nothing to do with the new Government” was the BBC comment (of course if it had been 0 it would have ALL been the fault of the new Government)

But 0.8% quarterly growth is being talked down (isn’t that approaching 3.5% pa – well above historic average?). Interviewing glum folk in Sunderland it is described by the beeboid as “slight” growth & of course it will do nothing for hardworkin’families.

Yes, well spotted Martin. A year ago the BBC were also screwing up their predictions of the figures, but in the other direction. I remember the day last October when we woke up to be told we would be out of recession later that day, and the figures ended up being negative. Today i woke up to be told that it was expected that the growth would be lower than expected, specifically at 0.4%. It makes you wonder whether all their “the BBC understands that…” stuff is equally slanted. If they need to pre-empt the announcement at least get it right for hell’s sake.

Spot on, the BBC were bigging up “coming out of recession” (prompted by the likes of Toenails and Peston being given their orders from McBust) then had to eat their words afterwards.

Now it’s the other way around, the 0.8% growth figures may well be rounded DOWN the BBC tells us and as Radio 5 reminded us “this is nothing to do with the new Government” unlike of course if the figures had been really bad in which case it would have all been the fault of the new Government.

I wonder if someone from the coalition gave the BBC a bum steer about the figures, just to make them look twats when the real figures came out.
I woke up this morning to hear the BBC crowing from the rooftops about how bad these figures would be.
They managed to put a negative spin on the real figures by saying growth was DOWN from 1.2% in quarter 2, to 0.8% in quarter 3.
Sky are describing the growth as UP from Q3 last year.
I can’t work out which country I’m in. A country after 13 glorious years has been taken over by jackbooted thugs who are destroying the economy and sacking innocent public workers (BBC vision) or, a country bought to it’s knees by a demented spendaholic, which is now, under a new administration, doing what it can to mitigate 13 years of profligacy and waste.

Of course the BBC will try to big up the one eyed twat from fife as being the hero. He’s not, I can tell the BBC what’s happened, not that they will listen.

During the recession, many private companies didn’t do what had happened in the past (sack staff) because they knew this would be a short recession, so they negotiated with staff (as my own company did) to get staff to take pay cuts, pay freezes, early retirement, unpaid leave and so on. This was only possible because the trade unions have been exterminated from most of the private sector. So now the economy is bouncing back private companies don’t have to look and recruit more staff as they held on to most of them.

This of course will be totally missed by the BBC who will try to make out that the public sector is being badly treated. If the unions got out of the way a lot of public sector jobs could be saved if the staff negotiated in the real world with management.
