Question Time tonight comes from Glasgow; twinned with Havana and a Conservative-free zone since 1982. In 2006, 29.4% of the population were on the dole and it has the lowest life expectancy of any UK city.
On the panel tonight we have Ed Davey, Nicola Sturgeon Murrell, Chris “Y-Fronts” Bryant, Hugh Hendry and Simon Schama. It’s also David Dimbleby‘s 72nd birthday.
For those playing the Buzzword Bingo, we’ll be using the Congratulations Rules so any links to people with special days today score bonus points. Double points for Iranian Threat (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad…happy 54th!), Tax The Rich (Bill Gates is 53), Gap Between Rich And Poor (Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein turns 43), Political Donations (Bernie Ecclestone is 80) and that annoying socialist whine Selling The Family Silver (Canaletto would be 313 today).
The LiveBlog will also cover the awful This Week, with Andrew Neil. According to the BBC published schedule only Michael Portillo is confirmed, so speculation as to the identity of the balancing socialist windbag is welcome.
David Vance, TheEye and David Mosque will be manning the barricades here from 10:30pm.
A typical, politically biased BBC-NUJ-Labour ‘QT’ panel:
E. Davey, Lib Dem;
N. Sturgeon-Murrell, SNP;
C. Bryant, Labour;
H. Hendry, businessman;
S. Schama, UK Labour Party donor, and supporter of U.S. Democrat Party.
And that’s before we get to the rigged audience composition, the choice of questions, and the politically partisan chairmanship.
Presumably, BBC ‘QT’ behaves as though the Conservative Party has been abolished.

Odd that, I thought the conservative party had been abolished, the day Cameron got his red EU hands on the leadership.

Oh Lord. Glasgow? This, and I would lay money on it if I had any, will be so biased that I will punch the screen. I will have to hit the beer.

An imaginary, impossible incident in heavily controlled ‘leftist’ BBC-NUJ Question Time:
Member of Audience stands up, unprompted and starts to say:
‘I’d like to say something about 5th November…’
Dimbleby: ‘I’m sorry but you can’t.’..
Member of Audience:
‘…irresponsible strike by BBC-NUJ’
Dimbleby: ‘I’m sorry, I have to ask you to leave’
Member of Audience is manhandled and taken out of theatre to applause.
The programme continues. After a couple of minutes, there is a sound of a firework explosion from outside. Or is it a gun shot?
“British journalists to stage strikes” (inc. 5 November).

That article states there are 4000 NUJ members at the BBC.
4000 ? That sounds like epic over-manning.
I bet the BBC could get by on 1000.

They could get by on about 50

Have the Conservative Party started boycotting the BBC now, or is it just certain programmes? Or does the BBC feel so confident that nothing will be done about their excess of bias, that they can just get away with not having a representative of the main party of government and the one that received the largest vote at the last general election.
I’ve stopped voting Conservative myself but this is ridiculous.
Alternatively they believe that a QT from Glasgow should only have representatives from parties well represented in the Scottish Parliament. But they will still have Scottish politicians in QTs in England. It beggars belief.
That’s why the Conservatives should immediately set up procedures to create an English Parliament NOW. If they did I would vote for them again, even with that ridiculous Cameron in charge.

We have an English Parliament; it’s at Westminster. We just need to keep the non-English MPs out.

I like the way that the SNP women kept insisting that Labour had voted against a freeze of the EU bill. The smarmy Chris Bryant kept waffling and talking over her so I guess that she was right…

I have just read one of the US financial blogs I subscribe to which has a YouTube clip of Hugh Hendry speaking on this show. I have heard him on various podcasts before where he always speaks sense and he seems to have done the same on QT. What was interesting was his little speech on us not liking bankers that say no but not liking they when they say yes and the problems being caused by anyone taking on to much credit. Straight afterwards there was a question from some little know it all 6th form lefty which just ignored everything Hendry had said and blamed the “bankers” for the recession. It wasn’t a response to Hendry in any way but had probably been thought up weeks before in the 6th form common room.
In a nutshell thats why I don’t watch QT.

Exactly right 1327 – the BBC is the 6th form common room
