Interesting to contrast Andrew Marr’s style of interviewing Ed Balls (Soft) and Michael Gove (harsh)on his programme this morning. Good for Gove for describing Marr’s mindset as “North Korean!” Best moment of the morning! Gove is spot on, of course, if somewhat unfair to the Dear Leader.The BBC would not be out of place in North Korea with its totalitarian mindset. It IS an anachronism here in the UK.

And BBC-NUJ Radio 5 just now gives S. Chatkabarti another free pass to propagandise against control orders and to praise Ed Balls and New Labour.
BBC-NUJ’s K. Silverton’s referential interview with S. Chakrabarti continues.
Silverton let Chakrabari off so many times, when asked about dealing with militant Islam she just dodged the question.
As much as I love this blog, and as much as I agree with 99.9% of it, I am sure it was Marr who used the North Korean comment, not Gove.
However, you are right, the difference in interviewing technique was chalk and cheese for Gove and Balls. It is sickening.
Chris, fairly sure Gove used the NK comment. The difference in Marr between the two, I though he was about to give ball’s a big hug.
Chris, you are right. Marr used this comment first when describing the policy on sport; Gove clocked it and brilliantly forearm smashed it into Marr’s ugly mush a few minutes later. After that, Marr became a lot softer with his (cleverer) opponent.
Ah, thank you – I must have taken less notice after Marr’s remark. All becomes clear; well done Gove then, for throwing that remark back at him!
Watched Marr this morning, (something I do as little as possible) what a clown. The two paper reviewers both lefties. Just to show how lame Labour are one was the saintified Bakewell. She picked a Dailymail story about that Sommerville woman who got a black eye while in police custody. Being all Harmonish she goes on about the custody sergeant. Does not ask the question why someone who was forced to have a drink drive blood test was not prosecuted due to lack of evidence. Goes on about the Sergeant and bullying, right on lefty subject, shame the custody sergeant was acquitted, must have spoilt her day.
The bullying way the BBC conducts interviews with anyone right of centre of course is never a problem to them.
And to ‘balance’ Dame Joan Bakewell (Labour) on the sofa we had Alistair Campbell’s tennis pal, David Davies (formerly of the F.A.), who (twice) specifically blamed the government of “the ’80s” for the decline of sport in schools. Both are BBC stalwarts. Davies was a BBC reporter for over twenty years.
It’s only when you read through a lot of comments that the underlying plan gets exposed. I picked up on Bakewell and Bulling. Now I find out about the ‘Accussed’ program about fictitious British Army Bulling. The lefty/bBC have their agenda which will surface. The next comes about by way of the pulled documentary about ‘the assassination in Lebanon’. A middle east paper threatens; and the bBC instantly caves in to bullying themselves.
Whoops! Maybe I misheard!! That said, Marr let Balls attack Gove but no opportunity given to rebutt that.
Well, Marr first brought up North Korea, when he mocked something Gove said and then, without giving him the chance to reply, tried to change the subject:
“That sounds a little North Korean, if I may say so. But let’s turn to this suspicion that..erm..”
Michael Gove let it lie for a couple of minutes then said: “No, and again a fundamental misunderstanding on your part that betrays, if I may say so, a North Korean mentality”.
Marr first laughed then tried to interrupt “Well..I..I..I..I..”, prompting Gove to say, “We’ve had your view, now let’s have mine!”
He took it up again later on:
Gove: “We had a discussion earlier about your North Korean approach whereby everything is centralised…”
Marr: “Your North Korean approach!”
Gove: “…and my approach whereby I…”
Marr: “Kim-il-Gove!”
Gove: “Thank you very much Dear Leader!”
That’s the way to deal with Andrew Marr!
If only Mr Gove’s colleagues would learn something from his balls. Doubt it.
DV, if you mean the BBC is anachronistic, I would argue that, if you mean its totalitarian mindset is anachronistic, well, its something they’ve been imbuing the nation with in steadily increasing doses for the last 30+ years. Fortunately, for ourselves, it just makes us more nauseous the worse it gets, for others, its mothers milk.
Just remembered another incident. Marr says to Balls, ‘you wanted to be shadow Chancellor’. Strange Marr had not done his homework and asked the real question, ‘why have you shied away from being Chancellor’. Balls although being in the Treasury and a big influence on Brown does not want to be seen as the big influence. Is that because he does not want to be shown as the real architect of the UK disastrous financial position.
But then that would be real unbiased journalism, can’t accuse Marr of that.
By contrast – Ed Pearce’s programme on LBC is right now discussing the astonishing fact that Ed Miliband’s name is not on his son’s birth certificate. And also his non-marriage. And Labour arrogance that says that these things don’t matter.
Followed by some dissection/criticism of Ed Miliband’s leadership so far.
And you can bet that LBC will now let phone-in callers give BOTH sides of the argument. Like they do on any issue they discuss. None of the BBC-style biased selection of callers.
Ed Pierce then switched to an hour’s discussion of “how will history view Maggie Thatcher” – she resigned 20 years ago. Again – robust discussion of both pros and cons, even-handed selection of interviewees and callers, fiercely critical or full of praise.
Seems to me that LBC has “impartiality in its genes”.
Michael Gove did very well against this onslaught. Notable as the first interview ever to feature the word ‘nebulousness’
If only there were a real Tory party left – then maybe the BBC could go into a big privatisation programme!

Just read Andy’s Wikipedia entry. I can see why he fits in so well at the BBC. He has a liberal bias not so much a party-political bias. Better expressed as a cultural liberal bias.
From time to time he gets people saying you’re biased in favour of the Labour Party. Every time he asks those people “show me a case of that bias, explain to me where we got it wrong and why what we said was so unfair” but they seem to be unable to do so.
So there we have it.
