FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT…

I must be honest and say that I can rarely stomach listening to the truly appalling trash “From Our Own Correspondent” but a B-BBC reader managed to courageously listen in and this is what he has to say on this programme…

The typical anti-capitalist spiel from the BBC’s Own Correspondent (Alastair Leithead) for Radio 4. Quietly insinuating that Communism is a superior system to Capitalism (try telling that to the former Eastern Bloc) but what I found most intriguing was the intro part of the article written in bold (and I quote):

“As the communist country of Vietnam increasingly embraces the ways of capitalism, the gap between rich and poor is rapidly expanding.”

This is purposefully worded by the BBC to insinuate that if the gap between the rich and poor increases then something must be horrifically wrong and that because previously the gap between rich and poor was small (namely due to the fact that everyone was unbelievably poor) then the government must be setting a good example those evil Tories should follow. You really couldn’t make this up!

Yet those same people who champion Communism and criticize Capitalism in this way always protest when we say they want to eliminate the rich and drag everyone down to the lowest level.

And notice how the phrase ‘equal opportunities’ has been replaced by ‘equality’. Last night on File on 4 on Radio 4 the BBC was again ready to admit that it doesn’t approve of the well-off.

      Kendall,
Well Beeboids should  know all about “wealthier borrowers” through their own personal experience.

They want equality of outcome.  Neo-Marxism.

May I be first to have the honour of posting Maggie’s classic repudiation of the statistical quackery of socialists:-

      Excellent find.

“You’d rather have the gap smaller and the poor poorer”.  Perfect summation of socialist ideals.

Some weeks ago FOOC  had a similar piece from Cambodia, which is also moving towards capitalism. The wealthy Beeboid seemed to want all Cambodians to live in poverty and starve to death.
Don’t suppose he invited them to his 5-star hotel ( a product of capitalism ) to raid the mini-bar .

Funnily enough my wife develops products to be made in many countries including Cambodia and sells them to Japan. She has just received an order for 2,000 exfoliating towels made from Cambodian wild silk.

That is real help for poor villagers trying to recover from their horrific past.

Just returned – literally – from Vietnam and Cambodia. Nations of contrast.

A few points to consider. Even in pre-capitalist North Vietnam there were major gaps between the subsistence farmers, for example, the ethnic minorities and city ‘workers’.

The gap between North and South is the most obvious. It’s true that the South has the occasional Rolls Royce but it also has many more ordinary automobiles that the North which is almost entirely motorcycles.

Cambodia lost much of it’s educated middle class in an effort to turn everybody into agricultural workers – Maoism to the nth degree. The places that are booming, for example Siem Reap, owe it to tourism. Tourism boiled down is rich Westerners spending their money and thereby providing jobs where none existed except subsistence farming, where none existed.

I’m going to sleep a couple of hours to raise my strength to cope with FOOC before I comment further.
