This was drawn to my attention. It’s “Have I Got News for you” presented by Chris Addison.
On showing a picture of the 2 George Bushs, father and son, together on a golf cart, Addison asks ‘Where’s a Yemeni printer cartridge when you need one?’.Ian Hislop’s reaction is surprise that Addison should be suggesting double murder. Not sure why he showed surprise as the BBC has been happy in the past for it’s employees to suggest shooting BNP members in the back of the head or shooting Jewish settlers.
Just being “edgy”, right?
Addison was perfectly cast as a hapless civil servant in “In the thick of it” and has been struggling to establish a comedian career in the shadow of it. His appearances on Mock the Week showed him up as desperately trying to court the lefty-comedy tendancy, with right on swipes at all the usual suspects. Feels like Barbara Windsor wanting to be “taken seriously” after all those Carry On parts.

Is this the same character who is currently fronting the adverts for Direct Line. Know what to do guys – boycott Direct Line and tell them why.

Boycott a car insurance company? Not really like boycotting a supermarket or fast food outlet is it? I mean when was the last time you used Direct Line? Me – never. And unless something drastic happens, I never will.

Hislop is obviously aware of the justified outrage of the right after the Giffords/Palin accusations, and knows that will now be counted as yet another bit of rhetorical violence from the left. Before that he would have laughed along with it.

Haven’t watched the show for ages but a quick look on iPlayer suggests this epsiode is a repeat from last year.

This was a repeat from last year before the Az shooting, as much as i have a problem with the bias with this show i’ll give Hislop his due on this

Beat me to it.

Fair point, I only assumed it was current because of the recent furore.

It’s not the presenter. It’s the audience.
Left wing audiences are sophisticated and understand irony and satire. Right wingers are Neanderthals who at the slighest provocation randomly open fire.
Gettit? 🙂

Someone should tell these left wing “comedians” that they are not doing alternative comedy anymore. What they churn out is the norm.
They have not moved on since the 80s – its all old hat and now its just predicatable and boring.

Actually it is obvious why these people use the same old “comedy”. The only time you will not be prosecuted for incitement to vilolence or “religious hatred” is when it is aimed at conservatives or christians. Joking about anything else will get your coller felt by the old bill.

Addison is an untalented freak show. He belongs on HIGNFY.

Gave up watching years ago, when I learnt it takes about 6 hours to film it. Can’t someone tell Paul Merton that he is not funny any more ?

Indeed it was once funny perhaps 15 years ago. But is badly in need of the chop now.

Was he ever funny? I forget.

i love the way the BBC stock of 6 middle of the road allegedly funny people have a wonderful talent for spouting political bias and liberal anti capitalist nastyness on the protected and edgy BBC channels! it’s where their heart is oh and pension ! and at the same time are more then happy to rent themselves out to any company which will fondle their egos and bank accounts !.

Matthew,
You surely aren’t suggesting they are biased, left-wing hypocrites are you ?
Heaven forbid.

Perhaps more to the point is that the “Chairman,s script” is written for him and he just reads it. Thus the “joke” was written, considered and included quite deliberately, just like the n in cuts “joke”. So it is not a usually left-on panellist’s quip but deliberately scripted in by the impartiality in their genes BBC

Gerald,
The BBC tend to cut out “credits” these days, but I think there are about 20 people involved in writing the “jokes” for HIGNY.

Had a right ol’ larf at ‘The News Quiz’ tonight. Not because it was funny but because the likes of Jermey Hardy just don’t geddit.
Tonight he was lambasting Widdecombe for being an evil Tory and suggested that it would be better if she did’t exist. He hates her, you see, because of her appalling opinions. Oh the irony!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remeber Widdy even wishing Jews dead, or wanting to shoot people she didn’t like (no matter how much they deserve it) or even wishing her enemies didn’t exist.
Somehow Hardy just doesn’t see that his hate is far stronger and more dangerous to society than hers. But then, if he had a brain, he won’t be a lefty would he?

Jeremy Hardy is one of the reasons I gave up listening to the News Quiz and its relentless Left-wing propaganda.
The other is the extremely irritating sound of excitable Sandi Toksvig’s childish voice and that excruciating laugh.
The News Quiz is like a group of immature teenagers engaging in mutual preening.
