I’m not a fan of Rangers but they seem prepared to tackle the BBC …
“Rangers owner Craig Whyte has said he will take legal action over a BBC documentary which carried allegations of criminality in his past dealings. The documentary heard from a government agency that he controlled a company despite being banned as a director.
The programme, Rangers: The Inside Story, was shown on Thursday night. A spokesman for Mr Whyte said he “strenuously refutes” the “unfounded and defamatory allegations” allegations aired in the programme. In a statement, the spokesman said: “Craig Whyte strenuously refutes these unfounded and defamatory allegations and has instructed his lawyers, Carter Ruck, to commence immediate legal proceedings against the BBC. Any repetition of these false accusations will also be met with legal action.”
In response, a spokesman for BBC Scotland said: “We stand by the investigation which was produced according to our rigorous editorial standards on fairness, accuracy and impartiality.”
You have to laugh…..
I know nothing about football, but I think that refusing to co-operate, or speak to, the BBC is definitely the way to go. It would make Panorama seem even more News Of The World-like.
Then again, if everyone apart from Labour and the unions did this, would we really notice any difference?

“We stand by the investigation which was produced according to our rigorous editorial standards on fairness, accuracy and impartiality.”
So we can presume if the BBC lose their case their “editorial standards” will be shown not to be “fair, accurate and impartial” can we?

JHT, I was amused by those lines too. If it was done to their “standards” on fairness, accuracy and impartiality then Rangers will easily win any fair court case. Trouble is, us TV Tax payers will have to foot the legal bill and compensation to Rangers.

What do you mean, “us” TV tax payers?

Any chance of BBC Scotland sending down those rigorous standards, so the Salford Tossers or Bush Babies of W11 get to know of them.
All pig-ignorant shit-stirring down here Hamish!
Alex can have us in his Tartan toybox if we see that the BBC actually are any more truthful north of the border than they are here!
Maybe they send all their wannabe Wallaces down here…Kirtsy, Jimbob…and so ARE better up there..but I doubt it!

Got to say that alarm bells start ringing about anyone whose first port of call is Carter Ruck.

I agree. I admit to a certain sympathy to the Beeb over that.

Well they are repeating it anyway, I watched it on News 24 last night at 12.30 am-ish (don’t ask), I was surfing the channels, during the adverts.

It wouldn’t suprise me if BBC Scotland is biased against the ‘gers but if this report stands up to court examination then well done the BBC for an excellent piece of journalism. Who wants a shark suited scrote owning one of Britain’s great football clubs. I mean, look at Fulham! Mind, Mohammed Al Fayad was a hugely useful pawn in the BBC/Guardian propaganda war against the Tories for Labour, so they wont pay too much attention to him.
It’s still up on iplayer, so one assumes the BBC are very confident all their allegations do stand up.
