I know we have discussed this previously but I am not prepared to let the BBC run a contrived headline such as “Iran conservatives contest poll for Parliament” without comment. As ever it is their use of the term “conservative” to describe those Mad Mullahs around “supreme leader” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that I object to. There is nothing that is conservative about these Islamic radicals and the BBC know that – but it is such fun to attach the appellation”conservative” to such a hateful barbaric and deranged regime as that headed by Khamenei and so they just can’t resist it. So, Iranian “conservatives” and British “conservatives” – what’s in a name?
THOSE IRANIAN "CONSERVATIVES"…

Some guy on 5 live was trying to tell us Amedinajad(sp) was a moderate. It’s all relative yeah?

They’re always moderate. Right up until we see a video of them beheading an infidel or blowing something up. Then the lefties blame it on us, because the “religion of peace” could never be responsible in their retarded minds.

Some guy (John Simpson possibly?) was on the Today programme also telling us that Ahmadinejad was a moderate. But he and Humphries were laughing about it…… there are some of us who think that the fact that Ahmadinejad is the moderate is a very serious matter and will cost many many lives.

Funny how they have relegated the Green Revolution of 2009…those brave youngsters not only opened up the can of worms for the rest of the Arab Spring, but Obama did nothing to help them…and the BBC are`nt quick to remind us of it all are they?
Had they succeeded we might now have a new Shia to back ,and no nuclear terrors a la Ahmadinejadh…but there again, he`s the Labour/Socialist candidate over there…as if we`d given Prescott the keys to the bunker.
INBBC…as the Tories persist in abusing that word conservative…maybe they`re not the bBC any more but BEREL…Broadcasting excuses for the relection of Labour.
Certainly I`ll call them Beeblabor and let them untangle my nuances…can`t be doing with them anymore!

This Newspeak so beloved of Socialists, where words are redefined to mean their opposite, was also used over and over to characterise the hard-left socialists in the USSR who were dead set against Gorbachev’s reforms as “Right-Wingers”. That they were allowed to get away with repeating this lie, to the extent that a Conservative Minister also started calling them the same beggars belief.
The BBC need to be reminded that not all their audience is as stupid as they suppose.

Yes, this item put me in mind of the soviet “conservatives”, too. During the nineties, I recall, under Yeltsin, Russia half-heartedly attempted some economic reforms. They were bitterly opposed by the Russian “conservatives”, we were told by the beebyanka, except that, when they stuttered and stalled, we were informed that the intended changes were “Thatcherite”.

Sorry, but this is correct usage of the word. Every English dictionary will tell you so.
It may be mischievously used, but it is correct nonetheless.

You mean they’re not the same?!?! Thanks for letting me know, I was under the impression Supreme Leader David Cameron was head of Iran’s Guardian Council.
Her’s a dictionary, something I always find helpful on such occasions:
