The ‘Open Borders’ Open Thread

Another Open Thread…but I’ve started it off for you…..

I haven’t had time to take a longer look at this but it pretty much speaks for itself…and you know the BBC reaction…this will be one of those ‘benchmark’ quotes that will now be kept in a high state of readiness to blow away anyone who dare suggest  that perhaps mass immigration and a ‘nation’ of strangers is not conducive to peaceful co-existence….and note no sign of any opposing views in the piece.

EU should ‘undermine national homogeneity’ says UN migration chief

By Brian Wheeler Political reporter, BBC News

The EU should “do its best to undermine” the “homogeneity” of its member states, the UN’s special representative for migration has said.

Peter Sutherland told peers the future prosperity of many EU states depended on them becoming multicultural.

He also suggested the UK government’s immigration policy had no basis in international law.

Mass immigration is just another cultural marxist policy to destroy society. Instead of having one group of people all the same in one country. Dilute the country and culture some much no has any real identity to anything but whatever the cultural marxists want.

Never trust Labour, Lib Dems, Tories, BBC on MASS IMMIGRATION, as they even now campaign for 80 million Muslim Turks to join E.U.

With Jimmy Carr chutzpah, Labour’s Mrs Balls NOW says that Labour Party policy of open-door, mass immigration since 1997, was a ‘MISTAKE’!
Labour’s mass immigration policy, over 13 years, although never in its manifesto promises, was THE fundamental ‘multicultural’ political principle of the Labour Party for the enforced colonisation of the British people.
For Mrs Balls to now say ‘we got it wrong’, is such as inadequate admission of a fundamental, irreversible error of gigantic, societal proportions, that Labour’s current opportunism must be rejected as mere cynical electioneering.

“This is a very significant shift of policy and is music to our ears, confirming what we have been saying for ten years. But it is a bit rich coming from a party which, when in government, threw open the doors of Britain to three and a half million foreign immigrants with total contempt for public opinion. The opposition must now say whether they accept that there must be a sharp reduction in immigration and, if so, how they propose to achieve it.”

The BBC’s love affair with Owen Jones, the author of Chavs continues…

The Culture Show this week exposed their own brand of left-wing bias and made a huge error of judgement after the release of Martin Amis’s new novel ‘Lionel Asbo’ and how they chose to review it.

Lionel Asbo is about a Chav in today’s modern Britain, it is a satire on the benefits culture – it is about socoial realism where testosterone fuelled dogs are given special brew by their owners – and given that premise you can see the cogs of production connect and churn over this idea – Martin Amis is paying attention to people who have nothing significant to offer society those who contribute nothing to the economy other than social consumerism of benefits, those who rely on and take from the state to exist as they choose.
Being the biased BBC and without thinking their DNA makes them pick up the phone to Owen Jones, the 24 year old author of Chavs not obly to ask his opinion but to give him screentime – as if he needs it on the BBC – they want to film him leaning wistfully over balconies of social housing projects and counter-argue: the literate Amis stands against Jones’ streetwise nonsense – and they do this, but the problem here is apparent from Jones’ own narrative – this Emporer has no clothes, or rather that he has one pair of skiddies undies and that’s it. His argument goes like this:
Amis’s character is one-dimensional; it’s all one dimensional and uhm… well, this book is one-dimensional, and that is as far as Jones’ commentary extends.
the Culture Show piece then takes an extraordinary, it says that Jones isn’t the only critic, and it cuts brutally to draw upon the more on -camera articulate James Runcie to eyeball Amis and carry forward the Cha vs argument further, but that doesn’t address the issues either, the BBC must know that Martin Amis created a world in Thatcher’s Britain called money that was a powerful commentary of the 1980s and now he’s looking at the post-apocalyptic social experiment that is the cloaked by new labour – wheeling out Owen Jones as some kind of soothsayer and then hot-swapping him for another presenter who can ask Amis the questions doesn’t bode well for the new socialsts that occupy the corridors of the BBC.
You can pul the wool over the eyes of some of the people some of the time but you cannot pul the wool over the eyes of the people all of the time.
Owen Jones banned me from his twitter feed for questioning his mathematics on the millionaires tax. I wonder if he’ll do the same to James Runcie for digging him out of hids inarticulate hole on his Culture Show slot?

Shafting the US as only the bBC can
Alan Turing: Gay codebreaker’s defiance keeps memory alive
Saturday is the 100th anniversary of Alan Turing’s birth. But the codebreaking genius died in 1954 after consuming cyanide – an act many have linked to his persecution for being homosexual. Here, his biographer Andrew Hodges, explores the circumstances surrounding his death. Did Alan Turing’s death come as a shock to the Britain of 1954? To close friends, it was a trauma which even after decades remained unhealed.

So the bBC opines about the death of Turing the new gay icon for the liberal classes and how do they go about doing so, why they blame the US for his death:

    1. ” there was little to suggest a connection with practical developments, which anyway were largely assumed to be American in origin.”

2.”Turing was reported as “diffident” about his prowess, and credited Americans for the “donkey work”.This self-effacement, mixed with a dark hint that he had actually contributed something better than “donkey work” to the computer, typified the cryptic way he spoke of himself.”
(Err bBC, look up what donkey work actually means)

3.”After 1948 the Cold War, the concept of security vetting and the needs of the American alliance ended the “one-of-our-chaps” basis on which he had been recruited in 1938.”

Yup it seems that to the bBC, the only enemy gays had to fear in the UK before 1976 was the US of A.

Which kind of explains the fairy tale world the bBC inhabits with this closing statement:
“to the great decision he made in 1938 to abandon the Eden of pure mathematics for the deadly business of duelling with Nazi Germany.”

Would I be correct in assuming that to the left, Alan Turing would have been better off not taking sides against the racist, homophobic and bigoted Nazis in 1938.

Now where do I find a similar frame of mind regards an equally, racist, homophobic and bigoted ideology?

Instead the bBC loves to point the finger of blame at the US. While leaving out Turin lived in the US from 1936 to 1938.

The bBC, the traitors in our Midst

It’s a mystery all right, why would Britain insist on security vetting instead of just recruiting some nice chaps from Cambridge for the security services?

Besides, you just know in another universe the BBC is writing a post berating the security services for recruiting nice chaps instead of instituting proper recruitment procedures.

The BBC have before mentioned the ‘shame’ of the British Government in not publicly recognising the work of the genuises a Bletchly Park.

One might argue that Churchil got it wrong. He should not have kept it all secret (and trusted the Americans to do the same). He also should not have ordered the destruction of Colossus. Those two decisions cost the UK the lead in computer technology and led to the rise of the worldbeating US companies like IBM.

But then it is easy to criticise in hind sight.

That is is why Turing remained an unsung hero. Not because he was gay but because he was involved in secret work. The straight inventor of Colossus, Tommy Flowers, was also unsung for decades for the very same reason.

But to the BBC all gays are victims …

There is so much wrong with this article.

But for starters it explicitly conflates immigration as multiculturalism, which is, of course, total bollocks.

Second, unemployment is lower for everybody in Australia and the US, not just immigrants. Der!

And there’s no consideration of how immigration/multiculturalism may be “a crucial dynamic for economic growth” for – oh, I don’t know – Saudi Arabia. Or Chad. Or Pakistan.

So, there we go. Three points of fundamental analysis in under 3 minutes by someone who has yet to go to work, in contrast to the absolute zip from the BBC.

‘He will embark on a two-day tour of three cities – Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness.

In Dundee, the Lord Provost Bob Duncan was accused of cancelling his speech at a specially arranged event on Friday.

The city council said SNP councillor Mr Duncan was not snubbing the Dalai Lama and would speak to the 76-year-old after attending a family funeral.

It emerged earlier this week that the Chinese consul general to Scotland had met with council leaders from all three cities scheduled for the tour.

The issue was raised during first minister’s question time in the Scottish Parliament, where opposition parties claimed China had put pressure on the SNP government over the visit.

First Minister Alex Salmond visited China in December to strengthen trade, arts and cultural links after the arrival of two giant pandas at Edinburgh Zoo.’

Repost from Wednesday’s Open Thread – probably more apposite here:

(With apologies to Godwin) Admiral Doenitz, leader of the NSDAP, today issued apologies about the “Baedeker” raids on English towns and was closely questioned by John Humphrys on Today. The admiral confessed that the NSDAP had “got it wrong” and that, were the NSDAP returned to power, “something as yet undisclosed would be done”. Mr Humphrys accepted these statements in good grace and hoped that such mistakes by the NSDAP would never happen again. Admiral Doenitz and Mr Humphrys steered clear of mentioning othe NSDAP policies eg the murder of millions of Jews, and hoped that listeners would also forget those . . er . . unfortunate . . . er . . events.
Later, on Today – in a 15 minute spot after the 8:00 News – there was a Labour party political broadcast in which Humphrys colluded with John Denham to ignore completely the avalanche of Asian immigration under Labour and instead concentrate on – particularly – substantially Polish immigrants (temporary and otherwise) who – for the most part – came here to work for a living rather than go straight onto benefits. Also ignored was the fact that the change in character of certain localities due to EU immigration is as nothing compared to the change in character of whole towns by the non-EU immigrations. Nice – and so “impartial” and “unbiased”.

I detect signs of panic in the liberal left. Concentrating on the “Polish problem” fools nobody. Fine people, Strong family orientated. . Great country and most Poles you meet are working towards returning home to their families and help build their nation. Those that want to stay in this declining shabby nation are more than welcome.
Everybody knows the real problem. Milliband and the BBC are out of step and know it. Propaganda is only effective for so long and when it fails to convince then the backlash is always swift and unpredictable. The liberal left is running out of time. The economic crisis is against them. They are also a declining demographic. Often childless -for one reason or the other- they are relying on indoctrinating our young with their unreal outlook to ensure their survival. Like all dominant groupings they have assumed that their way was the permanent way. That nothing would ever challenge it. History is just not like that. Modern liberalism has bought many good things but has tipped over into self indulgent excess. The balance as ever in life will be restored.

Just watched SKY news over lunch, and when this topic came up, the ‘panel debate’ became rather surreal.
In the studio with the anchor was the ubiquitous Mr. Jones (I guess Mr. Hasan was not free, as the two seem to alternate there… and the various BBC sofas). In what looked like a park was Ken Livingstone, and in the offices of The Times was a journo/gob du jour called David Aaronovitch.
So far, so ratings gold. Only…
The Times guy was in full Labour defence mode, Ken was consistently mea culpa contrite and, be this possible, Mr. Jones made the most sense of all three, which wasn’t much.
Also, the entirety of the ‘immigration question’ seemed to focus on Poles who work, pay their taxes and, mostly own ways.
My Asian/Singaporean (‘they’re all fascists’, H/T our noble NUT case) missus is perplexed. When we lobbed up here over a decade ago, married several years with kids in tow, she was left in no doubt as to how shaky her rights to get in, stay or, heaven forbid, work, were.
Now it appears you just turn up, demand a house in Kensington, sign on, apply for benefits and start procreating or shipping the village over.
The solution to this was actually all agreed by Owen, Ken and David: build oodles more housing, everywhere you can imagine. Quite how this gets funded, or what the impositions on already straining infrastructure might be, Mr. Boulton did not seem to have time to task them on.

Just a brief insider’s comment on the E Europe question from a man who married one (a Pole, but not a plumber as it happens) ..

One of the things I liked about my wife when first we met was her remark, during Blair’s anti-toff bill: “I can’t believe you are abolishing hunting in this country! You’ll be abolishing the Queen next!” Well exactly, I thought …

Anyway, of course we all know that Poles have not been any sort of anti-British problem – quite the reverse, and for some time. (Go to the RAF museum in Hendon and look at the names of the dead in the Battle of Britain Hall if you doubt it.)

The point is that immigration was barely an allowable topic of discussion before they arrived – once more – in 2004, because they are of course white. Like us.

They also hate communism, are proudly Christian and have one of the most conservative and right wing polities in Europe – not that that would influence a London “liberal”‘s view of them, of course. (These intellectual giants are too sophisticated to be influenced by anything, after all.)

As soon as a white person’s involved, any amount of censure and disapproval is permitted. Otherwise you’d better steer clear or the police will come a calling (remember? the ones who used to work to defend you!)

I noticed that nice Mr Denholm being given a virtual free ride this morning during interviews on radio 4 (Today), BBC 1 and BBC News channels. It was basically 5 minutes of free airtime per interview to espouse the Labour party’s ‘apology’ (1 second per interview) and remainder of the uninterrupted ‘interview’ contained the wonderful new means by which labour would reverse the situation (….well, how it really was big bad company managers’, and the current government’s fault anyway, and they should be heavily punished…). No scintilla of explanation was given as to how Labour policies would in any way address any immigration problems they have caused…but these companies employing low-paid workers had better jolly-well look out.

Incisive questioning (actually, any questioning…) and a balancing viewpoint from other political parties – came there none.

    • Umbongo says:

But notice that Humphrys’ questioning was fairly aggressive. Manifestly, the whole item was play-acting (I wonder – quite seriously – if this was rehearsed) since what exercises most people is the unchecked (particularly Moslem) immigration from the sub-continent . . which, by the way, continues almost unabated. Again, the BBC (and Labour natch) duck the real issue and get excited about a (relatively) minor aspect of Labour’s betrayal of the country.

      • Framer says:

Humphreys was exciting himself being now allowed to ask a question mentioning ‘immigration’ but that pleasuring only lasted a couple of moments before he began qualifying his ‘overstatement’ and falling in with Denham’s mouse of a new ‘policy’.

    • But have you noticed what seems to be the funadamental flaw in the whole “Mea Culpa” which defines the fact that Labour have not changed their view at all and are just rewording their viewpoints for another opportunist attack on the Govt.

As Denholm says – this is all about poorly skilled and poorly educated workers coming here and big bad bosses avoiding the minimum wage which leaves hard working Britons out of work. Their response would be to increase the minimum wage.

But let’s examine that plan slightly shall we? They don’t come for the poorly paid jobs. They come for any money they can get and many of them end up on our welfare rolls, which is another nice source of cash for them.

So all we will end up with under Labour’s plan is the same number of immigrants but a greater number of people who require welfare.

Nice one Labour – well thought through.

As Bishop Hill discloses, an outfit called Green Alliance and a host of crooks from the national and international political class have lied their little hearts out concerning a completely bogus shortage of these minerals.
The reason for this barrage of lies is simply to induce panic and give the impression that the world’s running out of everything. Just as the CAGW scam is begins to topple, Harrabin and the BBC have jumped on the next bandwagon (“sustainability”). Harrabin has embraced completely (as if his job depended on it – surely not!) this rush to ignorance and mendacity by knowingly misleading his readers (although the article is cleverly couched in terms of why “analysts are concerned”).

It can only be the BBC.
Tonight’s Ten o’ Clock News covers, in detail, Milibands speech on immigration.
    There followed a BBC commentary. No Norman Smith ‘people say’ critique this, more a simple factual report of what Miliband said. So no questions (not even rhetorical) like;
-Why are you saying this now?
-Aren’t you being opportunistic, knowing that the Government face a fresh wave of immigration, from Romania, next year?
-Why are you only talking about the 1 in 5 from the EU and not immigration from elsewhere, illegal immigration or bogus asylum seekers?
-There is evidence that the huge increase in immigration was a deliberate policy on the part of the Labour government – to change the face of Britain. Why were the people not consulted?
-Don’t you owe the British people an apology?
In opposition to Miliband, the Tories only had SIX words reported (‘Labour cannot be trusted on immigration’), compared with a long piece ‘criticising’ Miliband, from a left wing think-tank (publishers of a much derided report saying immigration did not impact on unemployment). Immigration enthusiast, Jonathan Portes’ criticism? That Miliband did not need to apologise. So choreographed. So convenient.
Only the BBC could produce such a biased, left wing piece. Only they could find someone from the same spectrum as Miliband to pass a convenient judgement.
    This cannot go on.

Free money free housing free health and free education, plus your own community – no need to integrate. It is nothing to do with “racism” as Labour love to pretend. There was a typically useless and biased ‘debate’ on Newsnight tonight in which everyone argued that immigration was a good thing. Newsnight managed to find someone called Ian Birrell who apparently works for the Daily Mail and must be the only one working there who wants more immigration. A cursory google of Birrell reveals that the twat used to work for The Independent so I’m sure you can guess his arguments, we can’t do anything – this is globalisation (why not?), we must argue that immigrants are good for the economy ( how?), that they don’t take housing ( ha, ha -see London), that immigrants are good for our schools ( I nearly fell over laughing when I heard that one ). The arguments seem to be one of presentation, about getting the message across that immigration is ‘a good thing,’ about convincing (or brainwashing) Brits that immigration serves an economic purpose (other than putting them out of work, turning their neighbourhoods into Kinshasa, giving their kids TB, turning their towns into the wild west and not forgetting the rape gangs, white slaving, pickpockets, beggars and thieves of copper, cable and war memorials) . So it’s full speed ahead from the sounds of it.

I am pretty sure there is a term for only seeking out those who articulate by proxy and/or confirm your own prejudices.
For a compulsorily-paid news medium with a supposed remit to inform and educate on a professional and impartial basis, that seems an odd one to seek to perfect, much less practice.
The BBC also appears to this quaint notion that their ‘less slewed than the others’ selections represent ‘baalnce’. In my ongoing complaint over the 5 vs. none Argentine-supporting Dateline London ‘debate’ they seemed to feel an-anti Government Brit from the Indy somehow meant that they had evened the scales.

Newsnight’s immigration segment was an absolute farce. The BBC are just following Labour’s lead on this issue. Ed Miliband’s focus has been on Labour’s admission that they got it wrong on Eastern European immigration alone, whereas the rest of the counrty is much more concerned about influx of people from third world countries with vastly different cultures to our own. Rather than having a wide ranging discussion, Newsnight cherry picks the location of Crewe as the centre of it’s focus, so that it can talk mostly about Polish immigration. This leaves out the much more concerning half of the equation, that of non-European immigration, just as the Labour party are doing.

Their choice of guests was also interesting. We had Hillary Ben (Labour), Gordon Brown’s former pollster, and Ian Birrell from the Daily Mail, who I assume was meant to be the view from the right. Conveniently, Mr. Birrell is pro-immigration and sees the huge numbers of arrivals as entirely beneficial to the nation.

They couldn’t find anyone with an opposing view? Could they not have invited Sir Andrew Green or even Nigel Farage? Anyone who is concerned about mass immigration and against any further increase? If the aim was to address the worries of the majority, the whole thing was a complete irrelevance – both Newsnight and Labour. Just meaningless, cowardly crap.

Here’s Mr. Birrell’s take on immigration. Even at The Independent the commenters don’t really seem to think much of his views on the issue.

This is the real problem with the BBC and Labour – they genuinely consider that their half-hearted, tokenistic disingenuous attempts to skirt round the REAL issue are more than enough to quell people’s deep concerns.
        “There – we’ve touched on immigration…job done”.
It’s all well and good for Ed Miliband to now claim that people who voice their concerns about immigration are no longer bigots (gee, thanks for the permission slip…what caused the epiphany?), but will he and his party members still hold to this when people express their concerns in a manner that doesn’t perfectly align with Labour’s mantras on the issue? I very much doubt it. Identity politics is in their DNA.

Not the blink of eye from Kirsty Wark, Rosie Boycott or the third guest – an American woman.

Interesting to hear that as far the BBC are concerned a third of the population should be excluded from the arts. But what would be the point in complaining – the words were those of a BBC guest, not of the Corporation.

‘the words were those of a BBC guest, not of the Corporation.’
For those moments where even the BBC feels it may be wise not to be totally overt, the solution is to simply select a one degree of separation guest for the purpose. Implausible deniability, BBC-style come a CECUTT reply: ‘I cannot comment on this as it was made by a guest, whose selection does not fall under our control’….. which leads to ‘We cannot interfere with the editorial choices on guests…’

Basically, whatever the BBC wants to be said, they can ensure the necessary person to say it will be brought on… accountability-free.
And even if they DO go too far and drop Aunty in it, they can say things like ‘we can’t allow you to say that’ when, well, they just have…

    with writing that says:

Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip have killed two Palestinians just days after a ceasefire was brokered

You could only conclude that Israel deliberately went against Hamas’ magnanimous offer and broke the “ceasefire ”

Except its not quite how it went down. Looking at other sites, including left wing sympathetic Haaretz it seems the rockets came first and a few more than the two the BBC will tell you about

    http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/volley-of-gaza-rockets-strike-southern-israel-one-wounded-1.443328

Oh and that bit that “they didn’t do any damage” – try explaining what that means to the man now lying in a hospital with shrapnel wounds to his neck when one of the more than two rockets hit a factory.

Its the usual BBC style again when reporting on Israeli attacks. You get a really odd strapline that suggests it might be Israel – especially more so if you only see that bit on the front page of the news and don’t click on the story. Then if you click on the actual story, the language is vague. Added to which it always seems to be written in a style that jumps the timeline around. The effect being that you can’t quite work out who did what in what order. I’ve seen it too many times on Israel reporting to suggest its anything other than a deliberate ploy so that they can “tell you the facts truthfully” with a whole different meaning.

I expected it but I didn’t believe it even when it happened. “It” was the party political broadcast at 8:30 this morning on Today on behalf of Friends of the Earth. A FoE rep came on (on a glitch-free – funny that – line from Rio) and launched a gratuitous attack on Big Oil and Big Business generally for the abject failure of Rio 20+ to agree a binding resolution to take the world back to 5,000 BC. Humphrys didn’t just sit there – totally silent (which I’ve never experienced before) – when he did speak all he did was to thank Craig (the FoE rep) for getting up so early in the morning to lecture us all.
Humphrys then gave the Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman a going-over (she’s a Conservative after all) asking her, in effect, why she didn’t enact FoE’s complete agenda this weekend. Between Humphrys shouts, Spelman gave the usual week-kneed obeisance to all things green in general (and Craig in particular), claimed that the conference had been a success – in the same tones that a doctor examining a patient’s turds would say “well it’s a turd but it’s healthy and its shape is perfect” – and apologised, in the face of Humphrys derision, for Cameron’s absence: he only had G20 to attend after all.
Humphrys then went on his favourite faux-indignation-driven anticapitalist and anti-business riff (eg making profit is obviously grinding the faces of the poor and . . er . . destroting the planet). Balance? None at all – not a peep from anybody that Rio – both conference and outcome – might be a load of junk attended by a representative mob of the world’s greatest parasites (including Cleggy). This was not just the signature BBC crap “journalism” on its own terms but boring, predictable and – except for highlighting yet again where the BBC’s heart is – totally uninformative.

  45. Just in case the Fast & Furious thing rears its head again (as I suspect it will do) and Mark Mardell and the rest try to play it down, here’s a 7 minute’ish summary of things you might want to consider:

      Thanks for this sir!
Blistering stuff…and, of course; of no interest to the BBC at all.

BBC 4 was promoting a documentary about London in the past. The voice over claimed “See London in all it’s Diversity”. After Ed’s speech one would think the BBC would shut up about ‘diversity’.

Anyway here is some footage of Old London, before the BBC can put their Cultural Marxist voice overs on them.

Britain in the 1950s eh? How undiverse. I almost expected to see Michael Gove strolling along the street – afterall so many voices on the BBC this week have told me that is where he is living.

Looks like an urban version of Midsomer. Could never be broadcast on the Beeb. Quick CGI on a Jamaican just off the Windrush!

Did you notice something else that is strange? People were surprised back then to be filmed going about their daily business.

Does a fork or dinner knife pose an unacceptable danger to President Barack Obama?
One wouldn’t think so, given the hundreds of lunches and dinners he’s attended ranging from state dinners to political fundraisers to run-of-the-mill stops on the rubber-chicken circuit.
