THE PEOPLE’S LIMOUSINE

Remarkable!

“The BBC is spending an estimated £130,000 over two years on a chauffeur-driven car rejected by its chairman Lord Patten because it would ‘incur costs’ to terminate the contract.

The car was originally used by Sir Michael Lyons, the former chairman of the BBC, until he quit in April last year. It was then assigned to Lord Patten, who succeeded him.

But the peer refused the vehicle, saying he would use public transport instead, saving the licence payer extra expense. The car, believed to be a Lexus, is now being mainly used by the Corporation’s chief operating officer, Caroline Thomson, but is also available to other senior managers.”

    Makes sense.

I’ve ordered a Bugatti Veyron because it’ll work out cheaper in the long run and I’ll incur costs if I cancel the order, but my wife doesn’t believe me for some reason. Damn.

One can see how any views or ‘analysis’ on business and economics (or accountability) can acquire a unique slant at the BBC.

It also seems odd that such amounts so soon head into ‘vague’ territory chez Aunty. I presume the only reason we even know it’s a Lexus is the possibility of hybrid brownie points, which explains why a more modest British car was not an option.

Can I book it for the weekend? I’m sure I’ve paid enough over the years to be entitled to at least one loan of the car and driver.

There are three main myths about the creation of the brownie. The first, that a chef accidentally added melted chocolate to biscuit dough. The second, a cook forgot to add flour to the batter. And thirdly, the most popular belief, that a housewife did not have baking powder and improvised with this new treat. It was said that she was baking for guests and decided to serve these flattened cakes to them. This became our beloved treat of today. Whatever may be the case; all three myths have gained popularity throughout the years due to its mysterious beginnings.`
