Well, the BBC have finally found one member of the Murdoch dynasty that they like and guess why? Yes, Elisabeth Murdoch has come out in support of the BBC licence fee in a speech to TV executives in Edinburgh.
Giving the annual MacTaggart lecture, the daughter of News Corporation founder Rupert also praised the BBC for its creative leadership. Her brother James delivered the lecture in 2009, and notoriously described the BBC’s size and ambition as “chilling”.
James called it right and since then the BBC have been after his head. Elisabeth calls it wrong and they love her. The only solution to the BBC is to scrap the License Fee and let them fund their bias themselves.
Hmmmm – her company produces programmes for the BBC. But hey, that wouldn’t affect her point of view, would it ?

Why would Murdoch like the bBC to change. If it went commercial it would take away advertising money. If it disappeared it would make Sky more susceptible to the monopolies commission. It suits Murdoch for the bBC to stay just as it is.

I agree. Better for Sky to have the BBC as a soggy punchbag, plus a weak ITV, than real competition.

“soggy punchbag”. Beautiful. Wish I’d thought of that…

The Edinburgh Fringe, where she spoke, is a like a cobra nest of Left-wingers. When I lived there the locals pretty much all disappeared for a couple of weeks, as the city was taken over by juggling circus clowns, wannabe James Byrons and every single ‘radical’ from the four corners. The totty was pretty good though…

Oh dear! Is this site trying to throw a hissy fit because you have confirmation that your cause is doomed. Governments of all sides claim the BBC is biased so, to any logical THINKING mind that presumable means that the BBC is fairly neutral? Do none of you remember the Hutton Enquiry? If a “lefty” government such as North Korea sets up a state broadcaster to air its views you, correctly, decry it. Does it not occur that you are trying to make the BBC be exactly the same in this country – and so your views are actually totally against ther democracy you would (presumably) say you are trying to uphold. Or are you desperately trying to uphold an illegitimate government? Back in 2010 the huge majority of the country voted for parties that – at the time – were expounding broadly “left wing” policies. Even on that level if the BBC is “biased” it is only truly reflecting the views of the majority whilst the views of the few who frequent this site are anything but a majority – and will continue to be so!!
