‘Radio 5 Live Drive will seek to update listeners on the day’s developments, in an informal, accessible, manner, mainly through presenter interviews with correspondents or guests. Radio Five Live has a remit to inform less well-informed and less widely read audiences, so the amount and complexity of our coverage on the Drive programme is adjusted accordingly.’

Yes and that’s fairly obvious if you listen to it.
And for some reason it seems to be the radio station of choice for many people who contribute to this blog.

Might want to ponder the logical inference you are trying to make given the stated views of the cherry vulture flockers who haunt these pages with how they have returned over and over to say how irrelevant it is…. because you all say so. An apt metaphor for most BBC output.
As for exposure to content, if it offends here the option is free to cease patronage; one denied those compelled to co fund any BBC entity that may just fail in matters of bias or falling into propaganda backed by censorship. Hence maintaing an interest and reserving the right to comment; one some would seem dedicated to to trying to deny any outside the BBC monopoly bubble by any means for some odd, rather creepy reason.
But thanks again for highlighting the difference.

meeoww … do you include yourself there?
oops sorry … didn t realise we were in the presence
of greatness 😀 (shakes head).
radio 4 is just as irrelevant as radio 5, its delusion of self worth is, however higher, as is its preponderance to “in house” agended smarm instead of objective reporting/interview .

Got it in one there ,Noggin, sir!
Danny Baker is FAR smarter than Jane Garvey, Jenni Murray or Martha Kearney; but Radio 4 is one long Labour Party Broadcast , but oozing lavender oil to cover the stench and decay that institutionalised socialism brings with it.
Todays Womans Hour for example-Jane asks the TUC Womens Officer to tell us all why we need to join a union, and then the sistas gang up on the poor male”academic of Asian origin” who dares to say that unions are sexist as well as irrelevant( not that he`d be allowed to say the latter, but do have a listen to the feministas arsenic tipped brollies in action)
Oh-and Jane is worried that grossly obese or drugged up sorts won`t get automatic free fertility cycles on the NHS….bloody locally devolved budgets-we need CENTRAL control…a la Bucharest or Beijing wasn`t thought worthy of a mention!
Yet one subversive said that the NHS was “intended for the sick and not the disappointed”….oh dear, must be pre-menstraul eh girls?
Remind me again-Radio 5 at least needs you to count the goals-Radio 4 leaves you in a bath of slime and sentiment until you vote Labour!
Hope this internal note gets the publicity it deserves…isn`t patronising gratuitous insult now a hate crime or offence of some kind?

How convenient. A remit like that legitimises the standard bbc operating procedure of choosing correspondents who can be guarranteed to parrot the approved in-house pc drivel.
None of yer duckin’ n divin that they have to resort to on Toady to distort events.

They should have rebranded the whole station to “Newsround Light”, a subsidiary of the main bBC Cultural Death Star.

Remember how BBC presenters were warned from on high not to be too supportive of Team GB at the Olympics?

Well listening to BBC Ryder Cup golf coverage I notice a sudden outbreak of very overt patriotism and support for one side. Lots ‘us’ and ‘we’ in the coverage.
I wonder why the impartiality rules in this case might be different?

But do not forget the caddies were all wearing the rag patch in blue with a ring of stars on it. The BBC highlights were short on the golf but long on the rag.

Leaving aside the condescending nature of the BBC’s attitude to their listeners as rationale for Radio 4 Lite – sorry Radio 5 Live – what I find most objectionable is the admission of dumbing down as the official excuse for yet more of the increasingly common presenter to correspondent closed circuit chat.
“to update listeners on the day’s developments, in an informal, accessible, manner, mainly through presenter interviews with correspondents or guests”
This is exactly the formula for establishing and reinforcing the house style, the set of attitudes – indeed the message sent out from the station to the listeners. In the case of the BBC this is, of course, left liberal, pro public sector, pro Labour Party, pro-EU, pro-immigration etc etc.
BBC 5 is an awkward mix of Sport and PC attitudes.
I fled Radio 4 as a political refugee from the oppressive left liberal regime there and I sought asylum at 5 Live knowing that I would have to put up with a lot of dumbing down and would still be subjected to regular incidents of left liberal bullying.

Radio Five Um Yer Know has a remit to inform less well-informed and less widely read audiences
———————————————————————-
… and meets this remit by having less well-informed and less widely read presenters. Or to put it another way – lazy and thick presenters.
Witness this a.m when BBC’s Afghan correspondent came on and explained at length how it had been originally thought that the deaths of three NATO soldiers in Afghanistan had been caused by an IED, but that it was now clear that the soldiers had dismounted from their armed vehicle, had been patrolling on foot, and were killed by a suicide bomber.
Rachel Burden : (Too busy reading tweets from her ‘girlfriends’ to pay the slightest bit of attention) Um yer know so it was an IED then.

I would normally pull my own eyeballs out than voice support for the BBBC but I actually find Peter Allan on R5 Drive to be a decent broadcaster and not a parrot of the party line hymnsheet ordered on the rest of the Beeboids. Presumably because he was around before the BBC turned sharp left and kept going.

No Peter Allans ‘Gruff ,commonsense man of the people’ act ,is just that, an act.
When have you heard him actually contradict
the received wisdom of ‘liberal inquisition,?

Contrary to what Scez says above, I sought political refuge in 5Live 10 years ago because it is pretty impartial on the whole. R4 was like being caged in a Marxist indoctrination camp.
Allen seems to be a bit of a leftie at times, but a class act.

They forgot to put the L on the end – RADIO 5 LIVE DRIVEL. The real problem is apart from BBC Radio 4 , there is no alternative. Talk Sport now seems to be 100% sport. LBC is only on DAB outside London. BBC Radio has a monopoly and guaranteed trough full of money, why should it worry about any criticism, there is certainly no competition.
