Well, the BBC were NEVER going let Hurricane Sandy pass without a little bit of climate alarmism. The Today programme were hyping it up this morning, with an “expert” on hand to inform us that these “extreme weather” events were without precedent and the listener was left with the clear impression that climate change is the game changer. This is not news, it is insidious propaganda.

More factual information from Mr Crichton in his 15 or so minutes of presentation than we’ve had from the bbc in the past 15 or so years. And we get a quite good joke thrown in too, from Mr Crichton. So, he’s not just intelligent, learned, sensible, and normal, he’s witty too.

A pleasure to see these Reed!
Why don`t we hear more of these real scientists?…as opposed to John Craven and Brian Cox?
Aren`t we worthy of grown-up stuff that shows the Common Purpose/Green Nazi agenda for what it turns out to be then?

He came across as both eloquent and well-researched, as well as reasonable and thoroughly decent. A great shame he’s no longer with us – we need a host of rational voices with that kind of gravitas on our side more than ever now!

For those interested, there’s an Intelligence Squared debate featuring Mr. Crichton as one of the speakers.

Nice to see they won this one! (click ‘see results’ for the before/after stats).

I would have thought there were lots of precedents which is why this time of year is known as hurricane season

Quite. A hurricane during hurricane season – the end is nigh!

“Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the forecasting service Weather Underground, said this could be as big, perhaps bigger, than the worst East Coast storm on record, a 1938 New England hurricane that is sometimes known as the Long Island Express, which killed nearly 800 people.”

More info on previous northerly hurricanes (although you’ll have to go to a separate article to find out about that that manifest product of global warming: the great colonial hurricane of 1635)

Had they forgotten hurricane Donna in 1960, I wonder.
Look, this is the arse-end of the hurricane season (June to November), the circumstances are unusual but certainly neither unheard of nor unprecedented. Nor does this Sandy remain a proper hurricane (if it ever was) – NOAA in their wisdom appear to be naming anything that has a gust of wind above a breeze (thus nurturing their own ideology) when, in normal times it would just have been a tropical storm. This particular disturbance is unusual in that the effects are being enhanced by a cold front, and that it is a particularly large feature – not because it’s a “hurricane”.
I note with interest that no-one on the BBC is at pains to point out that the last 7 years or so have been without significant land-fall hurricanes, and that there have generally been far fewer hurricanes, tornadoes, or other manifestations of severe weather. We know why – THAT wouldn’t fit into their meme at all, would it?
Climate change – the reason for everything
The BBC – Half the story (and invariably the wrong half).

‘without precedent’ is now defined as a period of time to a point just after it last happened, when inept government contingency planners bought into venal science predictions supported by uncurious media bosses.

Err… that would be TROPICAL STORM Sandy as it made landfall. Not even strong enough to make a Category 1 Hurricane (the weakest), let alone Category 5 (the strongest).

A few are pointing out the slight difference between what is, and certain media would prefer it to be.

Not sure what that is, but my definition would not involve the word ‘news’.
Not to detract from the fact that Sandy did cause loss of life and damage, but if you stick lots of people on man-made areas, nature can sometimes still revisit and create more mayhem than last time.

There’s ‘having a bad day’.
Sometimes this can run to a week.
A month gets painful.
I think we’re seeing what may be the end of the beginning of what is shaping up to be a very bad rest of their life…

People seem to forgive the propaganda, but when the censorship to cover it up gets out of hand folk take note.
And they will not be so forgiving.
Using endless licence fee taxes to defend secret licence fee broadcasting is a unique too far.
Especially for the nation’s most trusted treasure.

Gosh, look at all those comments expressing extremist, crazy views about shutting the BBC down, views that I was told don’t represent anyone anywhere and are restricted to this tiny echo chamber which nobody reads.

Same at the Telegraph when the BBC is discussed. Must be a small band of very coordinated and feverishly active Little Englanders.

Waking in storm lashed America: 15 people dead; 6.5 million with no power; I find the ‘why’ word beating in my brain. Did man contribute?
…the ‘why’ bit is explained by the phrase ‘hurricane season’, muppet…further down the blathering…
Jon Snow @jonsnowC4
@PaulEbbs But never in a cold season..this is unprecedented in this area
…someone please explain to this twit that peak ocean temperature occurs months after peak summer land temperature – which is the reason that hurricane season peaks between August and October.

Sandy has an amazing amount of coverage.
Has anyone heard or seen any BBC coverage of Typhoon Son-Tinh? At least 30 killed in the initial reports as it came ashore between China and Vietnam.

And yet, the impulse behind both forms of finger-pointing, behind both the Bible basher’s harebrained claims that deviant people brought this disaster upon mankind and the environmentalist’s insistence that the disaster is actually the fault of industry and pollution, is the same – it’s about doing that very Medieval thing of finding someone or something to blame for scary natural occurrences. Only where Christian zealots blame sinning mankind, green zealots blame industrious mankind.

Can anybody remember the doom and gloom predictions that were being made a decade or so ago about the ever increasing devastation which was going to be inflicted on the whole world by ever more severe and frequent El Nino events which were going to be created by Man Made Global Warming? Whatever happened to that little piece of scaremongering? Can anybody even remember when the last one was without checking? That, of course, excludes answers from fanatical, navel gazing BBC employees.
I notice the scaremongers never correct their dire warnings when the disasters they had predicted never come to fruition. Strange that they get quietly swept under the nearest carpet, never to be mentioned again whilst they are replaced by yet another invented doom and gloom scenario to frighten the children with.

Listening around on the radio and the BBC World(Weird) Service just put an advertisement for a climate debate on Al Gore’s Current TV channel. That and quoting McKitten’s tweets.
And they has the temerity to say they broadcast a balanced programs.
