    at 5.10pm I tuned into Radio 4 and assumed they were doing a news item about the discovery of DNA. As it went on, it became apparent it was not a news item so I realised for some reason the news was off the air. The item on DNA was excellent, and I enjoyed it much more than I would have enjoyed the news. Can we have more strikes by BBC journalists please 🙂

      I too enjoyed the item on the discovery of DNA and found it far preferable to the usual PM Programme. In fact I certainly did not miss the PM programme with it’s so called interviewers far more interested in publicising their own version of how they would like things to be rather than allowing the people they interview to put their own views and opinions, unless, that is, their views mirror that of their interrogator.

      Their constant interruptions and over-talking when answers do not confirm what they would like to hear is an obnoxious trait they seem to think is good practice.

      By comparison the programme on DNA was a pleasure to listen to with short, sensible questions being asked and those being asked allowed to answer in full and with no attempts to bully or ridicule them. Not only was the PM Programme not missed the alternative only went to prove that the hour’s broadcasting it takes up could well be better used by programmes which really do give the public something informative and worth listening to.

        Thought – perhaps we could combine the two!! We might usefully examine the DNA (real or metaphorical) of James Naughtie, Edward Mair and John Humphreys to see whether they have traits in common, such as bias and lack of self-criticism.

    To be perfectly honest, I had no idea there was a strike until I saw it on the news. The brothers and sisters must have been picketing very quietly.

      I wonder how many of them were *coerced* into the strike. I mean unions bullying enlightened morally-superior BBC employees.

      Maybe they just didn’t like the tactics? You know the motto: Inflict onto others what will never happen to you, not even in your worst nightmare. Esss-weeet.

      Excerpt from above report:-

      “The unions told me that they would instruct their members to return to work if Nelson Mandela died. I rather suspect they would do so even without the nod from on high.”

      And a reprise from Friday’s ‘Telegraph’:-

      “BBC unions silent over the Maggie Question.
      BBC staff who went on strike yesterday said they were prepared to return to their desks if Nelson Mandela died, however the staff’s generosity stopped there.”

    The £12 a month I used to pay for the TV Licence now goes into my own private pension fund as my employer, that sells products to the NHS, unlike the BBC is too small to have its own pension scheme.

    Aren`t the brother sisters and otherwise gendered complaining about bullying too…but the BBC never goes into details.
    The BBC is institutionally bullyist and therefore guilty of hate crimes, because I believe it to be so…shut them down until we`ve had an enquiry….I make no apologies for saying this…..and if it saves just one Andrew Sachs from being bullied again , then it`ll be a bargain!
    Shut em down!
