Merry Christmas to the creators and users of this brilliant site. I lasted 10 minutes with Call the Midwife before going off to do the washing up. I would like to think that the BBC have historical consultant types who know what 1958 was like. I don’t, I wasn’t born but my late parents and their extended families who lived in Poplar and worked at the Port of London Authority and the Carreras Rothmans cigarette factory certainly did. The white working class are portrayed as barely capable of drawing breath if it wasn’t for all those nice middle class nurses from Highgate and Hampstead. I could be wrong of course.
Should we be surprised? No more that 40 seconds into the revival of Open All Hours we have the token muslim character in what was a failed attempt to create a hybrid generic Brit and all designed to make us feel accepting of such.
The whole effort was a largely failed attempt to recreate the glory days of bBc comedy not helped by giving an unnecessary but necessarily (sic) inclusive nod to ethnic characters and the failed effort to give them purely British eccentricities.
Another fail bBc, what’s next a revival of It Ain’t Half Hot Mum with camp muslims in the lead roles? Thought not…..
INBBC’s Lyse ‘the humanity of the Taliban’ DOUCET mention the Christian victims, but not the Muslim perpetrators of the violence and murder against the Christians.
