Wondered what your thoughts are on the BBC coverage of the Ukraine/Russia crisis? I get the distinct impression that the BBC favours those in Ukraine who are seduced by the entreaties of the EU. Lots of interviews with young Ukrainians in Kiev – a pro EU audience. I noticed that in the Commons yesterday, Conservative MP Peter Tapsell pointed out that the EU carried a degree of culpability for this situation given its endless expansionism “to the borders of Mongolia” That didn’t fly well with the BBC. Thoughts? Is it the case that like Nick Clegg, the BBC will always rally to the cause of the EUSSR?
ALWAYS BACKING THE EU?

Yes I noticed that the interviews were with young pro EU types. No one has given any thought to the fact that Russia houses its Black Sea Fleet in the Crimea and would do anything to protect that. What would the US do if the EU took over the base of the US 7th Fleet?
Also we all know the EU hates democracy, encouraging the overthrow of a democratically elected president. They removed the democraticly elected head of Greece and replaced him with an unelected pro-EU technocrat and I believe did the same to another EU member but I cant remember which it was.

Well Italy had an unelected former EU technocrat appointed PM back in November 2011 – Mario Monte.
Perhaps that was because they feared Berlusconi would run off with the EU bailout.

Officers of Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) loyal to the ousted President Viktor Yanukovich have hacked phones of Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and leaked their conversation to the web. The officials discuss their impressions of what’s happening in the country after the revolution. The gist of it is that Ukrainian people have no trust in any of the leaders of Maidan.
….
“And second, what was quite disturbing, this same Olga [Bogomolets] told as well that all the evidence shows that the people who were killed by snipers from both sides, among policemen and then people from the streets, that they were the same snipers killing people from both sides,” the Estonian FM stressed.

Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet tells Ashton that the snipers were not under orders of Yanukovitch.
Oh dear, gosh.

On Monday the BBC claimed that Russia would invade Crimea at 3pm on Tuesday. Story seems to have disappeared for some reason, probably along with some of the other hyped-up pieces of disinformation.

I heard President Putin yesterday calmly explain that as far as he was concerned the situation in Ukraine amounted to an illegal, armed coup and he saw it as his job to protect the Russian speaking minority in the country.
Just from a purely technical, legal point-of-view: is Putin actually correct? Isn’t Russia’s ‘invasion’ of the Crimea actually comparable to any number of UN interventions in other locations around the world (think of something like France’s ‘humanitarian’ invasion of Mali, for instance, etc).
Just wondering, because the BBC never seems to want to explain all this without biasing their p*sspoor journalism to the point of obfuscation. As far as the BBC are concerned:
Pro-EU Ukrainian protesters* = Good
Russian Federation = Evil Empire
*Not including racist, nationalist neo-Nazi fascists who also ‘fought’ (nominally, at least) on the pro-EU side for their own aims.

Russian troops have been in Crimea for centuries, Crimea was handed over to Ukraine for administrative purposes, when both were in the USSR.
There has been no invasion of Crimea. Its just hype. As for the USA deeming the supposed non-invasion of Crimea as illegitimate in international law – kettle and tea pot come to mind.
The US has been invading countries all over the world without any international legitimacy. Its use of drones all over the world, and against the wishes of the country concerned, are also illegal in international law.
All this the US has done to bring about freedom and democracy. I wonder of the Iraqis, Libyans, Egyptians, or Afghans think so., as they view their totally wrecked countries, driven by the demons of fatricide that US invasions have unleashed. As for Christians in these countries, they are now gone – finished. Their 2000 year presence has been ended by US democracy.

I always suspect something wicked is happening when George Soros’ name crops up in news reports.

Would that be the George Soros of Club of Rome fame?

‘I have been tirelessly talking about Agenda 21, so I hope that people are aware of this little nugget of legislation by now. It was the outcome of the Club of Rome, a think-tank that provides ‘suggestions’ to the United Nations. We are currently seeing all these ‘suggestions’ coming to fruition as current legislation bombards us daily as America is being radically transformed. This transformation is no accident, and it is not aimless nor mindless. It has been carefully construed and orchestrated. It is the work of the Club of Rome’.

I note that the UK is being asked to stump up £2.5 billion to cover the EU £20 billion overspend.
The trouble with socialism is that eventually they run out of our money.

The BBC is going nuts this morning about the odious lying double-dealer Clegg and his ‘taking on’ as they say of Nigel Farage over the EU. We have had the buffoon Norman Smith getting really excited and waving his arms about and rocking back and forth as usual. He really is an idiot.
The pro-EU pro-LibDem bias on the BBC is very blatant. The inference is that it is unacceptable to have a critical view of the EU, and thus attacks on those who express those views is worthy of prominence, with no attempt at balance.

Didn’t Hitler take over a few countries to protect
German speaking citizens.

Yes, I believe he did. Hitler also dreamed of a ‘European Federation’ if I recall what I read in ‘Hitler’s Table Talk’ correctly.
I won’t defend Putin any more than I’ll defend the nefarious fascist forces subverting the pro-EU factions for their own narrow Ukrainian Nationalist aims. My point is that the BBC doesn’t seem to want to explain all the facts adequately or fairly.

Fair point.
Putin’s aim of reunifying all of the Russian speaking people and territories in Greater Russia is to my mind also a strikingly similar concept to Hitler’s Greater Germany lebensraum concept.
This time around Obama, Kerry and the EU are the appeasers.
Fortunately this time around the UK is a minor player, a small Island of not much consequence to the main protagonists. I hope we stay that way and stay out of it.

Assistant Treasury Minister to Reagan and proponent of supplyside economics – excoriated by the MSM and now only heard through the blogs. Worth a read – particularly about the current Ukraine situation.

Please remember that many Russians feel that their country has been diminished by the breakup of the USSR into smaller blocs , as some people here feel that Britian will be diminished if Scotland goes independent and hate the rUK term .
Also the Crimea to Russia is more than Gibralter to the British .
I’m not totally defending Putin , just adding something the BBC should have pointed out .

whatever you think about putin,he is no stalinist or communist in fact quite the opposite,he could be described not only a capitalist but also a ultra far right nationalist, just look at the he treats gay people in russia,my take on putin is this, margeret thatcher was the iron lady, vladamir putin is the iron man, poor old obama has been outflanked by putin and made to look weak and useless over this ukraine little spat, tell you what,50 years down the line,we might need a putin type strong man to protect the english minoritys in this country who could under attack from hostile muslims who dominate the big citys in this country.with the rise of islamofascism in this country what i have said could happen in the future.
