MID WEEK OPEN THREAD!

Hi everyone. I have been away for a short break and even better, a complete break from the BBC. Just back in time to listen to the lead story on BBC Today this morning trot out some asinine excuses for Boko Haram’s actions in Nigeria. It appears that “Poverty” and the acts of the army are to blame for the savagery carried out there.  Nothing to do with Islam, oh no…..

Dunno. But guessing ‘Big H’s’ language has been pretty colourful of late, what with one thing and another.
‘Why, with all the resources at its disposal, is the BBC news new media portfolio lagging behind Buzzfeed, the Daily Mail and many other sites internationally – having squandered…
Dude, maybe let’s just stop right there if you are trying to answer ‘why anything?’ with the BBC.
    Squandering… is what they do.
    It’s in their DNA.

BBC very lacksadaisical about the civil war kicking off in Ukraine.
“Three charred armoured infantry vehicles, their turrets blown away by powerful explosions, ”
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-27515514
What sort of gunmen can take out 3 APCs in attack?
Now that they’ve got the war they seemed to be pushing for where have all those voices gone which so recently were pushing for a coup in Kiev? What sane person now wouldn’t happily go back to pre-coup Ukraine?

I’ve voted UKIP. Unfortunately, they only had one candidate in the local elections, so I gave the Conservatives the other two votes. Not too happy with myself, but at least it should mean lower Council Tax than the alternatives.

The EU election paper was folded in half when handed to me, but the UKIP part was unfolded at the bottom. I’m not sure if that breaks the rules or not.

      a little misleading too …
First up a similar independence party from the UK, 😀
UKIP s near the bottom …
Perhaps the “establishment” were hoping for a few “should ve gone to Specsavers” moments from the unaware, to assist in the conspiracy.
(well … they ve been doing it for a month, why stop on polling day?).

The Guardianistas have already started to ignore that stupid thing called… erh DEMOCRACY. Don’t like the result? To hell with it. What the stupid proles want is of no consequence…

Those who are concerned about the fairness of UK elections might want to see this

    Click to access 20100525%20COT%20Final%20Report.pdf

It’s a 2010 report by Commonwealth observers on the UK election process.
    Inter alia, recommending
    * identification of voters should be improved – for example through the use of identification at the point of registration, the use of identification at polling stations and markers to indicate that people have voted.
    * Indelible ink pens rather than pencils should be available for use in all polling stations.
    * There should be a better process of verification of postal ballots in order to close the loopholes in the system. While the Team welcomed postal voting as a method to enable
more people to vote, Team members felt that the system remained vulnerable, despite recent changes in Electoral Law.
Obviously nothing has been done to improve matters. Combine that with gerrymandered constituencies, a partisan state broadcaster, a partisan press, and low voter turnout and you have one of the more shambolic electoral systems in the First World.
Meanwhile, the complacent BBC reckon the only issue is with whether or not people should take selfies

Much has to be done, not least everyone’s votes should have equal value. But Labour wanted to hang on to their 40 seat ‘false-start’ advantage in any election.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, that gerrymandering of the electoral boundaries was dismissed by a Labour MP as ‘more people turning out to vote Tory in rural constituencies and a quirk of the electoral system.

It wasn’t surprising therefore to hear those words repeated, by BBC staffers, stated as a matter of fact (it’s just the way it is) in the past week or so, both on the DP and on Today.

They don’t like democracy in the BBC

PS: I have a postal vote, work always seemed to take me away at election time. The application process and scrutiny does seem to be tighter than it was.

To give Cameron credit (not much is due), he would have delivered the boundary changes for equally populated constituencies except Clegg blocked it, without Libdem support they couldn’t have passed it.

      • #88 says:

Cameron tried to. He could not because the Liberals reneged on their agreement to do so.

I’d like to see Clegg and Miliband put under pressure with a #fairvotes campaign – getting them to explain why they wish to retain this democratic outrage.

Perhaps the BBC will ask them

I don’t remember hearing very much about this story, Gabby Logan being involved in the same tax avoidance scheme that Gary Barlow was.

No calls by a rabid bunch of lefties to resign, or hand back even the tax, let alone anything else.

Yet another example of hypocritical BBC presenters doing exactly what the corporation so vociferously condemns in others but not when their own staff are doing it.

Matthew Amralliwalla (sp?) on BBC News 24 can’t get his tiny, metropolitan, out of touch, progressive, middle class mind round why, oh why, UKIP has done so well despite the 24/7 negative coverage leading up to the election. It’s a real puzzle, he muses.

On planet BBC, it’s just a given that UKIP is a bunch of racists, sexists, homo-ists, poor-people-ists, Euro-ists, puppy-and-kitten-ists who nobody in their right mind would vote for. Then BAM! 25% or more of the population vote for them including – OH MY GOD! – loads of voters that Weird Ed is supposed to own.
