Perhaps it is because beheading was a common form of execution in Europe for hundreds of years? Also Christian Europe also doesn’t have the greatest record on murder for religious reasons.
I do though wonder if the BBC would call those who burnt Protestants alive ‘militants’.

Beheadings did take place in Europe, but they were the actions of the state or the local lord. The church was actually a sanctuary for those who were going to be beheaded, hung drawn and quartered, or other drastic punishment for stealing a loaf of bread, or some minor crime.
In addition, even as the state exercised beheadings, it did not try to use the teachings or example of Jesus to justify its actions.
The actions of the revolutionaries in the reign of terror was directed against Christianity and Christians – the Vendee genocide. The revolutionaries of France were atheist, the forerunners of the genocides committed by the communists in the 20th century.
