The BBC has a policy to discriminate against older women and forces them to cover it up with gagging orders…..

BBC had an ‘informal policy’ to discriminate against older women, say peers

The BBC had a policy of discriminating against older woman and covered it up with gagging orders, a House of Lords reports has concluded.

Peers were handed private evidence that showed older women being “coerced” into leaving the broadcaster and made to sign “improperly used” confidentiality agreements restricting them from speaking about their treatment.

The damning report also found that women are “significantly underrepresented” in key roles at broadcasters, with a “glass ceiling” operating in the media.

Will Miriam O’Reilly be guest editing the Today programme anytime soon with a cohort of feisty senior female journos, of whatever colour?

  1. Stuff the BBC. I only listen now to sports on radio 5, and radio 3. That’s it. We don’t have a TV either. Listening to radio 4 and 5 is bad for your health. Some woman on this morning bewailing transphobia. FFS.

Most of these old wrinklies got their careers going by being eye candy; now they want us to believe that they have superior brains! Sorry.

The exception is Carol Smillie. IIRC, she got noticed by doing Page 3 type shots for a Scottish newspaper and then tried to suppress them when she became ‘famous’. Nevertheless; she is now refreshingly honest:

She said she was in “no position” to complain about the lack of work offered to her now, having never noticed discrimination when she was younger.

‘A lot of people are keen to draw you into the ageism argument but I didn’t give a second thought to the older girls when I was in my twenties, so I am in no position to complain now. ‘

If I am to be forced to pay for the BBC then I want a constant supply of pretty young presenters who are replaced once they get to about 35.

Why do we need older, more experienced and presumably higher paid older, not so pretty women reading the news or presenting other shows?

If equality is important then get rid of the older men too. They aren’t worth the money either.

      It`s YOUR BBC Phil!
John Birt used to make us all regurgitate that mantra…and I`ve not been reset back to factory settings…so insist on this, Phil.
Maybe a petition….it`s refreshingly honest and we ARE what the BBC is all about, surely not about Citizen Khan blowing out from Rhona Camerons blowhole is it?

I want the best person for the job which means I don’t want Ellie on Countryfile, Sarah or Mishal on Today or indeed the endless supply of women giving the sports reports during News bulletins.

Blonde, fluffy Ellie Harrison tries to persuade us that she’s not just blonde and fluffy.

Why do we need knowledgeable people to read out news bulletins or to learn scripts so they can present programmes?

I’d much rather have a pretty woman telling me about the day’s football than some older one or a man. All I want is the facts.

There are some really pretty girls on Sky Sports News, and Sky News too.

Nearly all BBC news reading and presenting jobs could be done by young, less expensive people of both sexes on short term contracts. I see no reason to make such a menial job a career.

Rugby – shock, horror – is mostly played by well-educated, articulate men. It also throws up a surprising number of engaging, interesting characters. Any one of those would make a great anchor for an international rugby match. Instead, until she left, the BBC insisted on using Clare Balding for that role. As far as I could see, the only reason for us having to listen to her interminable chittering was that she ticked the ‘Female’ and ‘Gay’ diversity boxes.

Miriam O’Reilly was just embarrassing on Countryfile. No wonder they got rid of her.

The night the news broke from Paris, there was a stream of French females on Sky News and BBC News Channel. It struck me that they were a class above UK politicians and journalists, both in intelligence and common sense. Maybe you can’t make such a judgement in 4 hours, but I suspect our lot have completely given over to ‘values based recruitment’.

Yes, the French women have had a good Hebdo…and were in the media shop window enough to convince me that we need not put up with the likes of Toksvig, Montague or Balding when the EU surely means free work permits for such fragrant and classy ladies who know what Islam means for them.
These brave frontline war heroes deserve asylum and R&R at the BBC-and we-in the cause of reciprocity and sodilarity in return- should send our mutton dressed as mutton over to the banlieu to try convince us that Islam likes their kind.
I`d watch it…Les Heures Des Femmes, s`il vour plait!
