Nicky Campbell this morning ran his phone-in on the news that Nigel Farage and his family were attacked by anti-UKIP protestors who were doing much what the Brown Shirts did in the 1930’s.
Campbell didn’t challenge the constant claims by the protestors that Farage was a prejudiced racist peddling fear…Campbell dodged that preferring instead to suggest merely that many people support Farage and vote for UKIP…which is a different thing altogether….Campbell leaving the thought that Farage and UKIP are racists up in the air.
Campbell was asking if direct action protests were legitimate…curiously he didn’t mention the prominent reports that Ed Miliband’s paymaster, Len McCluskey, has recently stated that he intends to ignore the law of the land if the Tories are elected and will engage in such direct action as necessary to force his will upon the country…views he has expressed before…..
“All concepts of politics, of whatever kind, are about conflict──how to contain it, or abolish it.”
So if we are on a march towards “one nation” and ultimately “one world”, it is a road that leads through struggle and conflict.
We are taught to believe that democracy is the cornerstone of a modern civilised society; but our Lords and Masters want to define democracy, limiting us to an ‘X’ on a Ballot Paper every 5 years.
This is not my definition of democracy.
They tell us strike action, civil disobedience, direct action and protest are all somehow unpatriotic.
Our history tells us they are not.
Whatever the upshot of electoral politics, working-class politics must grow and develop, based on the socialist education Ralph Miliband called for.
In the midst of an unending economic crisis, with what Ralph would have called a discredited ruling class at the helm, it is past time for the working class to step forward with its own vision and alternative.
One of Campbell’s main contributors was Charlie Kimber, National Secretary for the Socialist Workers Party…..it’s aim…
Workers create all the wealth under capitalism. A new society can only be constructed when they collectively seize control of that wealth and plan its production and distribution according to need.
For a party that demands respect for all sorts of people and claims to champion the downtrodden it might have been relevant to ask Kimber about the way the SWP handled rape allegations made against a senior member of the SWP… swept under the carpet by them…so much for respect. Then again Campbell could have asked about the many, many millions killed by Socialism including those under the National Socialist regime in Germany by those hoping to create the perfect Socialist society.
Or Campbell could have challenged Kimber about his allies….
SWP cosying up to Islamic fundamentalists…again
Thankfully Campbell was mostly irrelevant, most callers did his job for him and challenged the protestors, standing their ground and denouncing the protestors and their actions in a reasoned and measured way that completely undermined Kimber and his ilk.
Funny how Farage is allowed to be pilloried for his views but others, like Kimber, seem to get a pass for theirs on the BBC…..and on that… interesting that Theresa May mentions extremist Islamists and the Far Right as people with hateful beliefs in her speech today….again what about the Left? The ‘leftwing’ UAF is the organisation that starts the violence at EDL marches.
There has never been a successful socialist government. I have had great fun asking lifelong socialist to name three and – they are stuck unable to respond. Cuba often comes up but most of the population of Cuba were swimming to the US.

Many socialist apologists will name Scandinavian countries when offering positive examples of socialism – but those socialist societies are funded by the most capitalism-friendly economic systems in the world! When you make lots of money, there’s nothing wrong with spending some of it on the state. It’s a shame British socialists are constantly fighting against the forces that can give us all plenty of everything. At least Scandinavians have a positive work ethic – quite the opposite of the bone-idle socialist Brits!

The Scandinavian socialist model is groaning under the strain of enforced multiculturalism and its associated problems of lack of integration, rape gangs and the burden of the welfare budget.
Put it this way, the ‘men’ in question are unlikely to have surnames like Nielsen, Mortensen or Andersson.

The SWP types can also be seen in the SNP.
And indeed, unions, quangos, Greens and the likes of Owen Jones and George Galloway.
Basically, the feather bedded, feather brained self righteous vermin with an attitude to cover the useless -ology they`d have been given as a mature student…and then forgot to go out and seek work to use it.
Odious self virtuous scum…their pink and lime green pastel shirts will turn to brown once mummy stops washing them and their Green colleagues tell them that Gaia cries every time the washing machine gets used.
Of course, the selfsame Trots and twats have hounded Farage in Edinburgh and Rotherham…and that, according to the BBC is banter, brought on by passionate Occupy types.
Not a bit of it.
Tomorrow Belongs to them.
They simply can`t have an argument-they`ve never had one, only shouted and had goons from the union in the nearby alleyway.
That`s why Owen Jones shouts over everyone-so he doesn`t have to hear anything from which he might once have learned.
And the BBC rewards this type with acres of coverage and excuses-just as they do ISIS.
Same fascists…and we`ll be ready for them.
Margaret Thatchers death smoked them out-and we know their tactics.

Nicola Sturgeon’s pure hatred of the Conservatives is apparent on nearly every interview she gives. As a Scot this worries me for the future of my country as to what’s coming down the socialist line in Scotland. I love Scotland but I also love Great Britain and it’s history, we are joined at the hip, we fought and died together and we should be proud of what we achieved for the good of the nation. Salmond and his cronies will wreak havoc in the house of commons, I only hope the people of Gordon constituency twig before its too late.

You are right to be concerned. Looked at from England the SNP now seems to be acting out of pure vindictive hatred of the English. This will end very badly as like all wannabe bullies the SNP overestimates it’s strength.

A couple of years ago Kimber was a regular on Gameshow’s programme (not long after that time Campbell had Guido on and introduced him as a ‘facist’).
On one broadcast, Campell set a Tory MP up against Kimber, introducing the Tory as ‘someone from the ‘opposite end’ of the political spectrum’
Now if Campbell reckon that the Tories and the SWP are somehow equidistant from his point of reference – it confirms that the hill that Campbell stands on to survey the political landscape, is far to the left of the rest of us.
But then again, he does work for the BBC. So why am I surprised?

Campbell has form. Only yesterday he fronted the Sunday shout-fest that is The Big Question, where a debate on race in the light of Trevor Phillips’ documentary from last week included the odious Lee Jasper and others of a similar ilk. The grievance industry was out in full force, with outrageous comments like ‘blacks cannot be racist’ clapped by a typically leftist audience.
Campbell suggested to one of the participants that such ideas might make people turn to UKIP, inferring, entirely erroneously, that UKIP looks for racists or condones racism, or is a whites only party. Absolutely disgraceful.

it’s funny how when you look at that Dan Glass bloke in that first link you can tell he is very middle class and has never ever done a hard days graft in his whole life – his features are too soft.
I’d like to see him work in a warehouse like I did for a couple of years and see him buckle after a day of unloading lorries, backbreaking lifting and dealing with real working class people and not the people who claim they are working class when they are upper middle. If there was any justice in this world he would be torn apart by the media but instead they lift him up like some sort of hero

the letters pages of the metro this morning were full of the same “he is racist so deserves it” line. I can’t work out whether people are that brainwashed or whether it is just the usual campaign as the left are very organised at this type of thing
only two letters were sensible with one pointing out it is the MO of the hard left for these types of things and there should be arrests and another saying how it was a disgrace. All of the others were the usual “he’s racist” yawnfest

I read that piece in The Metro; I was disappointed, but not surprised, that my contribution hadn’t made it and also disappointed by the tragically low brow lefty clichéd response you have already mentioned.
Most respondents appeared to be singing from the UAF hymn sheet. I think there are some sort of devious shenanigans going on at The Metro. The majority of our fellow citizens just aren’t that thick. Surely?

When are we going to see an in depth investigatory program by the BBC on the activities of the UAF, in the name of balance of course. I won’t hold my breath waiting though as no doubt that is a can of worms that must not be opened.

from a comment underneath this is the type of people and their mindset
“He knows a lot of people really despise him, yet he thinks he can still walk into a pub and not expect to be harassed. At least now he knows better and he should stay away from public places like pubs, and/or not take his kids with him. It was his choice to be the head of a far right party. His choice to go to the pub. He has brought it all on himself, and his family.”

And the left are always spouting on about “democracy”.
I watched the Diane Abbott link on here the other day. Absolutely classic leftist, butting in constantly while the Asian Network young man was speaking, while he and Portillo waited their turn when she spoke.

The anti Farage protesters , the bully boy tactics of the SNP , the open threats of the unions, hardly raise an eyebrow because the UK population has been conditioned by the BBC and the leftist educational system, to believe that the left is inherently good and so can do no wrong, but that the right is evil and can do nothing good. If the left deos something that at first seems disgusting or even criminal, the BBC have conditioned us to search for the reason why they have done it, and we will always find that it was for the general good and so can be permitted. If we can’t find the’ correct reason’ by ourselves, then the BBC will guide us to think the right thoughts so that we do. Those of us who refuse to go along this leftward path are now labelled the’ left behinders’ and , so think the BBC et al, can be safely ignored as we are usually over 50, so escaping the worst of the indoctrination, and will soon be of little consequence. It is surprising actually that anyone over say 55 or 60 has not been forced to attend re-education classes but, as I say ,they have chosen to let us wither rather than attempt to sell us their leftist rubbish.
This is the rotten poison fruit of 40 years of leftist propaganda pumped out 24/7 by the state broadcaster and of an education system that was ‘captured ‘ by the left in the 60’s. Gove has tried to release the iron grip of the left on education by opening free schools which allow people to run them who are not leftists. The other bastion of lefty power is the BBC. I hope that the Tories realise that the BBC must also destroyed , along with the education commissars , if Britain is to return to a free media and a free democracy, where people are educated to make up their own mind rather than be fed leftist pap from the cradle to the grave.

Anyone who works for a large company – or, I assume, in the public sector – is regularly dragged off to ‘diversity training’ and such nonsense. Their annual assessment will include some weighting for ‘engagement’ to ensure that they show due obedience.

“ labelled ‘left behinders’”
Radio 4’s Analysis says:
Jeremy Cliffe of The Economist asks if our real political divide is between those who feel comfortable in liberal, diverse, urban Britain and those who do not – the cosmopolitans vs the rest. He argues that the success of UKIP is one sign of this division. At one end are the cosmopolitans – comfortable in diverse Britain, urban and socially liberal. At the other end are the non-cosmopolitans, who tend to be older, white, and socially conservative…

Gove is the biggest Stalinist out! As for free schools ,oftenrun by those without qualification, created in areas where they are not needed, diverted from existing school budgets leaving kids without places and often religious in favour , adding to inclusivity no doubt. Great. Bet you wouldnt fly on Gove Airlines! Mind you ,you might get a go at flying .
Britain is to return to a free media and a free democracy, where people are educated to make up their own mind.
So when was there a free media and a free democracy. Take your pills Grandad. Your hallucinating again!

So the Manon answer is to send all children to the bog standard comprehensive down the road with mixed ability classes, no competitive sports etc where the producer decides what you will get.
In my home city we do have a choice for secondary schools, and strangely the more discerning parents do vote with their feet keeping the schools on their toes and those who displease quickly run out of money as the cash follows the pupil now. But out in the market towns and sticks you get what you are given. The socialist ideal?

Re education I assume you think that running a massive Governmental budget on a personal whim ,the indulgence of which has resulted in kids not getting school places or increased class sizes is an appropriate use of public funds. The producer decides ? not quite sure what you mean by this .Rest assured the kids dont decide and nor do the teachers who spend a considerable amount of time form filling.
Unfortunately your elitist views ignore that the kids being shafted today are the same folks paying your pension down the line. With a projected Trillion pound shortfall in pension provsion Id start thinking about the interest of the kiddywinkies rather than who is going to trample on who on the way up.

“… in kids not getting school places. ”
Is that not getting places in the schools that parents WANT to send their children to?
My secondary school is now run by a socialist who took over a bog standard school which was a merger many years ago of a secondary and grammar school.
In 10 years parents are clamouring to get their kids in, and I certainly would be if I still lived there. The devil has reintroduced “houses”. The school enters national debating competitions, It sends the most students in the county to Oxbridge, embraces and encourages support from an Old Boys movement, encourages musical excellence as well as sport and does not regard academia as the only route for its pupils to follow when leaving.
A socialist not interested in dogma but giving children the best chance, who operates within the present system and gives fee paying schools a run for their money.
I learned with astonishment at a meeting in memory of probably my favourite teacher that he was a life long Fabian, who taught in a Grammar School and hated it when transferred to a comprehensive! I also recently congratulated the teacher who taught me A level politics all those years ago that I had no idea who he voted for.
It can be done, but one size fits all, my dogma is right and yours wrong needs to be challenged and Mr Gove certainly has set in train a change in education for the better after years of producer led mediocrity for many.
If you ever wonder why the left moan about how many people in high places are privately educated you only have to think back to the introduction of the bog standard comprehensive system in the 1970s. The products of that one size fits all, mixed ability nonsense are the ones who are competing for the top jobs now – a very uneven playing field with that background for state pupils!
As Manon indicates he is retired and a degree holder he would presumably have been one of the elite of his day who avoided the comprehensive system himself, as I did, being the last year in my county who did so!

I apologise for suggesting you may be one of an elite. Someone selected for higher things when what 15% went to university. That really cannot go down well with someone with socialist principles to be separated from the masses at such a tender age and put on the path to a potentially comfortable life.
Did you come from the council estate like me?
Remind me which party introduced university fees and then promptly trebled them, before 2010.

Isn’t the truth that teaching unions don’t like ‘unqualified’ teachers because they’re not under the control of a union? I don’t think I had any teachers with teaching qualifications but my experience is that children today are less well educated. Go figure.
Of course, when the evidence doesn’t align with the dogma, the evidence has to be rubbished!

The question is my friend would you fly Gove Airlines or have surgery in the Gove private medical wing. Gove to pack your parachute maybe.
Er the answer is no if you are at all sensible. The fact is that schools in Inner London are full of unqualified staff mainly because no one will work there but the turnover is high and by definition the standards are poor.
Moreover bullying is becoming commonplace. Not amongst the children. Management on Staff!

“The fact is that schools in Inner London are full of unqualified staff mainly because no one will work there but the turnover is high and by definition the standards are poor.”
Really! Is there no educational supplement to the Guardian? I believe there has been quite a turn round in many inner London schools in recent years and some of the schools in my rural part of the world are being mentored by London schools on how to improve!
When we were doing the rounds of our wonderful choice for secondary education here in the “fine city” a key question to ask was what percentage of the teachers belonged to the NUT, which gave a fair idea of which ones to avoid.
Since then we now have I believe 3 free schools to add to the choice for state education parents.
How I sympathise with the bright kids from council estates where you get sent to the local comp for good or ill. Yes parents can still do that here but do not have to.

Do you accept that there is a philosophy which can be described as Gamscian ?
Do you know who Gramsci was ?
Would you describe Gramscian thoughts as official or unofficial ?
Would you describe Gramscian philosophy as formal or informal ?
Would you say that Gramscian philosophy was ethical ?
I would define Gramsci on the spectrum between Trotsky and structuralist. Ethically ,since Trotsky was not a Marxist philosophically I would align him Hegel. His structuralist work is IMO beyond ethics because it is the emergence of the idea of the ‘unknowing subject’ which takes a later extension in Althuser.
Because of this his political practice tends IMO to flip flop between a knowing subject ie one that can ‘objectively understand’ social reality and an unknowing subject ,one whose culture, politics etc is determined by the relationship between autonomous social/economic structures which interact dialectically.
Thats all I know about the guy but I am sure theres loads on the web.

Gramscianism was IMO a ‘slow burn’ revolutionary creed, which preferred undermining the establishment to direct onslaught.
This is what had been happening in education, health, the broadcast media, the law courts, the police and other facets of public life.
The result is that the former student class of 1968 are keeping their grip on so many levers of power in the West.

It’s called the ‘long march through the institutions’. Often (wrongly) attributed to Gramsci. In fact it was coined by a member of that very class of ’68 to which you review – the German, Rudi Dutschke.
