Much of the downturn is linked to the slump in coal for the power stations as we have to move over to green energy.

Grimsby was the home of the biggest fishing fleet in the world…. There wasn`t a household in the town which did not depend on it and its` associated and interlinked industries that did not have a reliance on its` existence and opportunities relating to it to provide a future prior to the EU fisheries commision carving up our grounds and sharing them out amongst the other European states… Now we have no fishing fleet whatsoever, we don`t even have a fish market anymore as it is now nothing more than a transit point where fish caught elsewhere is trucked in from the continent who now export our own fish to us!!!
I know it`s far too late now to do anything about the demise of our fleet we no longer have the facilities to land fish and the entire dock area is being demolished now leaving nothing but rubble and empty docks, there`s no cohesive plan into what they will do with area… they apparently mentioned something about windfarms, whether that was related to the susidised industry which doesn`t produce anything or the statements made by politicians has yet to be confirmed, it`s quite confusing as thier outputs and subsidies bear such a close resemblence to each other….
We are such a poor prospect in Grimsby we don`t even have a problem with migrants!! The only foriegners are the continental drivers of the trucks carrying fish caught in our waters by the Dutch, French, Spanish, in fact everywhere in the EU except our own…
I`m so glad we are now out… whatever the future holds for our town it simply cannot be any worse than it is now… I can barely even afford a belt to tighten these days…

I think I might be getting a touch of the Mosleys (no, not that one his boy – Max). I had a change at work today and listened to the Scottish bbc day time radio, they are even worse than campbell, allen and co. West Mercia police have corrected their figures for the number of hate crimes reported immediately before and after the EU referendum result.
On Monday they were saying there had been a slight rise when comparing June 17-19 to June 24-26, but after looking at the numbers again, they are now saying there has been a slight fall – from 10 to six.

Or in other words, significant changes to the way Member States contribute to the EU budget (including possibly an EU VAT tax rate), no more national rebates, and major questions over the value for money from EU expenditures..(this year’s commitments 155 billion euros).

FYI the flats in the picture no longer have any tenants and this entire area is currently being considered for demolition and nhen no actual redevelopment!!!! I`ve been watching the BBC news reporting that N.E.Lincolnshire is now a f**king hotbed of racism and anti migrant rhetoric!! If only…??!! So last year, I travelled around the Gosports and Readings of the country-before the elections.
Got my education alright-like the Broxburnes and Sunderlands , they`re ours….screwed over by Major and Blair , on their last legs last year…but Cameron won and then the same towns came through on straplines under Dimblebys nose last week…and I could have cried.
“No Town Left behind” from now on…they`re ours, and we`re theirs now!
As for Middlesbrough(where I had a shit time!)…well, they`ve got Ray Mallon, Willie Maddren and Rod Liddle close by…so I will yet learn to love it more!
@chrisH … yes I do live in the area, well actually i live in Cleethorpes which is next to it and is divided along the middle of the main road from Grimsby.. the fishing industry and its` demise is of particular interest to myself as I came from a fishing family and my step father was an owner not just a skipper of a seine class fishing vessel… since the loss of fishing to our entire region we in cleethorpes have suffered the knock on effects, Cleethorpes was once a town which was quite affluent and was a destination for many holiday makers who didn`t mind having a day out in a sub standard type of seaside resort.. The area is now home to next to no industry and an older generation who used to be employed solely by fishing industry related companies…. Then 1975 came along…. Hull had already lost its` deep sea fishing fleets after the three `Cod Wars` and with it Grimsby lost its` as well which was a potential distaster to the area in itself.. however the North Sea fishing fleet still maintained and provided work and wealth for the area until the Dogger Bank and its waters were handed to Europes fleets instead, we ended up with about 8% of what was once ours by right to fish, the Dutch and other states immediately brought in thier Beam Trwlers and completely destroyed the seabeds of the Dogger bank and then the surrounding areas leaving what were once spawning grounds and rich fishing grounds bare….. Next the EU decided to offer `decommissioning` options for various fishing companies which never actually materialised in the form of anything other than promises to compensate those no longer able to fish, they waited until people were at thier most desperate and offered an insulting fraction of what the boats were worth and then destroyed the boats which were perfectly seaworthy and due to thier use of the `seine-netting` type of fishing were able to sustain fishing as they didn`t destroy the seabed… The Scandavians also decided to retire early at this time as ironically whilst our boats were scrapped and no money was forthcoming, they as members of the EU enjoyed full compensation which thier governments ensured was allotted ASAP!! I don`t bear them any ill will though, as some of them actually came back here and settled and still live here today for some reason they preferred the area to living under the EU and it`s beurocratic nonsense …Once the boats were scrapped the EU then handed thier quotas to the rest of Europe too and eventually we were left with the best deep sea and North Sea fishing ports in Europe but without any boats to use them… Only immingham (12 miles up the coast) really survived becouse of its contaner terminal and facilities for Oil tankers although its` initial success has now dwindled too…. The Humber Estuary and its Deep Water Channel was once the envy of Europe now it`s a sad empty expanse of water with encroaching marsh grass where once there were miles of sandy beaches and a view without much in the way of shipping and only a few poxy wind generators to break up the bleakness…. There are now three major local seaports (Grimsby with both a fish docks and also a container port, Hull which also has the same although thiers was mainly deep water based, and Immingham which is container based and has facilities for oil tankers etc….) all of them are unable to justify having a full compliment of Customs Officers and Immingham has about two full time officers whilst grimsby having no boats has none…… not sure about Hull I expect it`s the same more more or less… the only silver lining in the cloud is that being such a sh1tty area with no prospects we have no problems with illegal migrants and that it is possible for me to purchase my tobacco without any VAT on it from the bootleggers who for a nice change from the norm at least happen to English like me… 🙂 Sorry for the rant but I am glad that we have finally seen the EU for the monster that it is and I`m actually now able to look out of my window through the pouring rain and feel positive that tomorrow there`s a chance that it will be a better brighter day…. Our area depended on fishing for everything in the seventies we were classed as a very wealthy populace with a genuine future and a potentially lucrative place for many kind of industrial projects due to our facilities and were a main port for many major Scandanavian shipping ports too…. now the estuary is bereft of anything more than treated sewage effluent, tampons and a mixture of discarded rubbers and jellyfish (it`s hard to tell them apart when they wash up with the tidal flow) I know that whatever happens being out of Europe cannot possibly do any kind of damage to my town and things now can truly only improve with time and of that I have plenty… as do many of the mass unemployed of the area….
And yet Justin C, the fish market in Grimsby must be better than Hull’s. My fishmonger (even fishmongers are scarce in Hull as we are all expected to get aged fish from the supermarket), gets his fish from Grimsby although he has to compete with the supermarkets for his supplies. But he prefers salmon from Norway rather than Scotland, says it is far superior. Will I now have to buy Scottish salmon following Brexit? Do the BBC care!
Would you believe that i cannot name a single independant fishmonger in either grimsby or cleethorpes Deborah… Only the Supermarkets offer this type of service and one on an indoor market stall which is soon to be closed down due to redevelopment of the shopping precinct, it will probably be replaced by Cafe Nero or a car Park .. whatever!!

Best not ask) a meeting of the Visegrad Group – Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia, together with representatives from Austria, Spain and Estonia met yesterday in Warsaw. Collectively they are less than happy at being sidelined in the current machinations, a situation which merely enforces attitudes which, they feel, have existed since they first joined the EU. Naively perhaps, they also seem to have some sympathy and enthusiasm for the UK’s stance, although from the level of media coverage – BBC and Sky in particular – within the EU parliament, this level of dissatisfaction would appear to be either non-existent or of no consequence. Eastern Europeans don’t quite see it that way.

Although the victim could recognise specifically the “assailant” had a 7 year old it seems no charges were brought. Typically with these “incidents” there was no third party confirmation. A common theme with little or no evidence maybe some phone footage which may or may not record the entire incident.

Its a question which I have yet to hear from our ‘so called’ politicians.
Nothing shows the Westminster / London bubble v the rest of the country more than seeing those that inhabit the chi chi restaurants at lunchtime in the capital. Just viewed Masterchef and (this is incidental, the contestants have to cook in a top restaurant), but the camera pans the restaurant, and you see the type and age of the cliental. This IS a divided nation, – of course we all enjoy a good restaurant, but to most of us its a ‘treat’, not a way of life at lunchtimes ! Meals at midday around the rest of the country are queues at Greggs, M & S or McDonalds. I realise this post sounds a bit ‘communistic’ – not meant to be, but just an observation that London is elitist compared to the rest outside of the M25.
I watched the EU Parliament BREXIT debate, (all two hours plus, skip the first 15 minutes while they assemble). It struck me what a good job the BBC has done for the EU over the years by not showing how some of the other MEPs behave, if they had then the ‘leave’ vote would have been more like 90:10!
Juncker is totally incomprehensible in translation. Verhofstadt from Belgium is just vile as he rants against Farage. This appears to be standard. Farage is confident and affable, shrugging off any abuse, while Verhofstadt snarls away looking for support from the rabble, forgetting that by doing so he loses the microphone. Then we have the heart of ‘the project’ as stated by the Italian, Pittella. He wants more ‘European’ institutions, that will keep the ‘people’ on board. He also wants European-wide political parties. How will the people relate to them? He probably wants forced internal migration so that everywhere gets a share from each member and “Imagine” blares out continuously from the EUBC.
JimS – when I watch Farage in the EU parliament; it becomes clear why “they” were determined to keep him out of Westminster at all costs. Can you imagine what a donkey he would have made Camerscum out to be?

But heard him on Saturdays Today programme, clucking on about UKIP and why we voted to Leave.His scorn for us, for the UKIP Councillors in his constituency of old-and his anger at Cameron for calling the Referendum-shows him to be viscerally stupid and scornful for those he used to know a little.

Blunkett’s constituency, as I recall, was some “diversity” ridden hell hole in Sheffield and where he had owned a house since 1988; yet the rented property, which was his home, was 15 miles away in Edensor (the delightful estate village next to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire) for which claimed over £20,000 in expenses from the tax payer.
Perhaps he didn`t see it as a problem??? Like when he mistakenly stuck it in his secretary instead of his wife????
