The BBC has been excitably raising the ‘issue’ of what what happens in Scotland and Northern Ireland post Brexit, acting as the unquestioning mouthpiece of the Scottish National Socialist Party and the IRA as they both bluster unconvincingly about the end of the Union.  The BBC regurgitates their rhetoric as if it were fact, that Scotland and NI are going to leave the UK and that there is a legititmate case for both as a result of Brexit.

That’s a nonsense but the BBC never seems to challenge such blether despite filling the airwaves with them and Brexit.

Curious then that today you won’t find any mention of a recent poll in Scotland that says there has been no change  in the Scot’s desire to stay as part of the UK despite the Brexit result.

You might have thought that such a significant and politically important finding would be headline news on the BBC considering their dogged determination to report everything ‘Independence’, well, at least the rantings of Sturgeon, but that is reserved for the fall in the use of plastic bags.  From the Mail….

Scots DO want to remain part of the UK: New blow to Nicola Sturgeon as poll reveals less than half the residents want Scotland to be an independent country

Most Scots still want to stay in Britain despite a Brexit vote, a new poll has revealed.

In a blow to Nicola Sturgeon, a total of 53 per cent of those quizzed said they want to remain in the UK.

The YouGov poll found 47 per cent want Scotland to become an independent country.

The results show little difference since before the referendum in May – when the figures were 55 per cent wanting to stay and 45 per cent favouring independence.

The BBC has been desperately peddling the Scottish National Socialist’s propaganda in the hope that the UK will split up, always a BBC ambition, and yet news that the Scots don’t want to go doesn’t get a mention, not on the Frontpage, not on the UK page, not on the Scottish page, not on the politics page and not even on a page dedicated to the latest news on Brexit:

Brexit Watch: At-a-glance day-by-day summer briefing

Now I’ve had a glance, I’ve had a damned good look, but I can’t find a single mention of this on the BBC site.

A big story, as Sturgeon makes such a lot of noise about the subject,  and yet the BBC seems reluctant to highlight it for some reason.

I waited a few more hours before posting and still nothing…and look, on the BBC site just 1 minute ago:

Independence campaigners march in Glasgow

“Independence now for us is very much back on the agenda.”

Supporters of the Union have played down the significance of the march.

Note the BBC tone…how ‘independence’ is significant and back on the agenda [hmmm…poll suggests not so much] and that Unionists are ‘playing down the significance’….well they would wouldn’t they, with justification, if they’d read the polls BBC.

Not a single mention of the poll.  Not as if the BBC don’t know about it…they note what the papers say…but can’t be bothered to actually do any leg work themselves…perhaps the BBC just isn’t interested eh?…

Stories of a drop in support for Scottish independence and a Police Scotland probe into online child abuse lead Scotland’s Saturday newspapers.

The front page of the Herald features a [] poll showing that a surge in support for Scottish independence after the Brexit vote has been reversed.

The Saturday edition of the i paper also leads with the YouGov poll, which claimed that more Scots backed remaining part of the UK post-Brexit than favoured leaving the UK to stay in the EU.

My dad, who was from Stenhousemuir and spent much of his life in the navy, (my mum was from Ipswich) always used to say to me that you will never meet a nicer person than a unionist Scot, but you’ll never meet a bigger arsehole than a nationalist. He was right. The provincial SNP fanatical anti-English zealots really are the scum of the Earth in my opinion. Look at them marching in the streets of Glesgae below… I cannot f****** stand the filth. The BBC love them, though. That’s because the BBC Scotland has been taken over by SNP pond froth.

Yes well spotted Alan… having this on their webpage – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-36926292 – but, as you say Alan, no details on the poll suggesting a majority still in favour of remaining part of the UK is nothing short of censorship. The BBC really are a disgrace but Reporting Scotland is just horrific in its left-wing dribble and appalling SNP bias. I see myself as kind of half English and Scottish as I have lived almost equal amounts of my life both north and south the border. I love Britain so much and am an ardent unionist and I love nothing more than winding up SNPer assholes; when I was younger I had to use my fists on a few occasions, too. The SNPers are so touchy lol and cannot stand criticism. However, they are quite happy to dish it out.

As I stated in another post. SNPers are spoilt, vindictive brats. They think that they are some special exception to the rule. That because they support the SNP they can get what they want, even though they’re in the minority. What with the SNP being a quite far left party, I know they aren’t too keen on the democratic process… but unfortunately for them they are still within the United Kingdom where democratic rule applies. They can bluster and whinge all they want. No one except themselves takes them seriously.

I did fail to understand why the Scots wanted ‘independence’ from Great Britain, a Britain they helped to make great, to jump back in to a corrupt oligarchy that is falling apart before their eyes ?
Have they really forgotten their roots ? Or has it been airbrushed out by the modern education system of PC teaching ?

        • Up2snuff says:

taffman, I think we have to recognise that their roots are dissent and disagreement, even with each other. But I also think you are right to cite modern education. Those of us south of the border, whether Scots descent or no, who had an education in the 1950s-1980s, starting in Primary school would learn of Scots engineers, scientists, business entrepreneurs, writers and artists and their contribution to the whole of the UK whether from in Scotland or the other three corners of the Union. There’s also a shortage of analogue memory these days when so much can be carried in digital form and pointed at a variety of tasks and diversions without much thought or exercise of the little grey cells.

For example, we were celebrating a Scots King of the Union just four years ago now, for his contribution to the nation and the world. Bless you, King James!

How many under 35 years of age remember that, I wonder?

I think it is being driven by a relatively small number of – for want of a better adjective – vicious activists that have killed off Labour support in Scotland and want to go for bigger targets.

The NO vote in 2014 were forced to keep their heads down and voices muted and that served to make frothy Nats appear even bubblier than they are. After a disappointing result as far as the frothy Nats were concerned, more hot air (very hot, mixed with steam) was vented through the mix and thinking they were getting free Cappuccinos or hot drinking chocolate, many more – the young, especially – joined the frothy Nats.

However, leave something like that standing, especially over two winters, and the bubbles start to subside.

Wee Nicola is out on a limb as leader, wanting & promising things that she has neither asked her Party about, let alone the people of Scotland. There are others within the SNP with an eye on her job. She has to now keep a lot of people – all critics (even in the SNP or voting for it) – happy. More bubbles have burst. The May elections. The Named Persons Scheme.

          We live in interesting times.

Wasn’t Sturgeon snubbed by those fat cat EU dictators when she went to Brussels to try to ingratiate herself with them? I think they took the view that the Brexit vote included the entire UK and that she therefore had no business talking about joining the EU independently.

So typical of the BBC not to want to spread the news about Scottish lack of enthusiasm for independence. And they regard themselves as a news organisation. What a joke.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/23/nicola-sturgeon-takes-political-fantasy-to-new-heights/

‘To try to construct a domestic and, now, a foreign policy for an independent country that does not exist should cause us to question Mrs Sturgeon’s sanity. Instead, much of the media treats her as though she is talking perfect sense. It is as if Ed Miliband, having lost the 2015 election, were going around pretending he was prime minister, claiming he could take key decisions, inviting himself to chat to foreign potentates on that basis, and the media finding such conduct quite normal.’

    Quite.

I think wee Jimmy is so used to overplaying her hand that she cant stop.

It is interesting that she appears quite willing to sacrifice what little is left of Scotlands fishing industry to stay in Europe!

And for what ? Maybe seat under Junkers table cloth gratefully accepting any scraps that are passed down to her. I suppose at least now that Cameron has poodled off, there is bit of space under there for snuffling, eating and maybe even mounting Jean Clauds trouser leg when the occasion arises!

But it seems she will not even be getting that. This may well mean we are stuck with her.

I do wonder whether Jimmy is trying to do a bit of weird physchology where she pisses all of us brits off so much that in the end we are all clamouring for Scotland to leave the Union. She certainly warrants her own health warning.

That could be it Scottish Independence through aggravation!

I truly want Scotland to stay with the Union but not at any price and particularly not if it means constantly being exposed to the constant call of the Caledonian Dwarf Harpee!

Hope she never comes out with “Let my people go” cos we might all say Yes please!

Grant there is some great stuff come out of your land (especially in a malt shaped bottle) but I am afraid you can keep her!

So the BBC playbook is still this :- Press the narrative that Scotland is on the brink of breaking up the UK, all the while suggesting that the referendum was a mere consultation of the uneducated reactionary prole tax cattle which should be ignored. We see how this knee-jerk cancellation narrative is an attempt to appeal to unionists given the false dichotomy of EU membership/No UK.

This despite a multitude of economic indicators proving them wrong, the latest YouGov poll on Scottish independence, potential vetos by Spain and Belgium and the Prime Minister stating that “Brexit means Brexit”. In other words their campaign to undermine this nation is failing on all fronts.

An aside: Is there any other country in the world where the nominally ‘national’ broadcaster is a fifth column?

The (Australian) ABC is a smaller but equally toxic organisation.

If you know the BBC stance on anything, then you also know the ABC stance on it.

The sheer volume of daily bile it unloaded on the conservative (and Christian) former prime minister Tony Abbott was remarkable, as was the ideological conformity to the Green/Left playbook.

I believe that Canadians would say something similar about CBC, too.

As Alan should be. I was still seething slightly by the time GQT (repeat) started on R4 today although the location and usual humour of the Chairman and Panel quickly cheered me. I had just listened to the R4 News (TWtW) with Shaun Ley being unusually useless. He is normally sharper than Mardell & Carney and regularly beats ED Stourton.

Poor journalism apart, it was if the BBC was completely ignoring the will of the people and were now campaigning for the UK to remain in the EU.

I think if Scotland voted in a probably ‘never going to happen’ second referendum to leave the UK then I think it will be a very sad day. Most of us Brits have Scottish/Welsh/Irish ancestors. My family have been English for two generations but previous to that Scottish/Welsh/Irish. We need to stick together as an island nation and stop this nonsense of independence. Anyway, how could the Scots survive without the subsidies from Westminster? Relatives in Aberdeen are being made redundant left, right and centre so the gas/oil is no longer prospering.
We are a great United Kingdom and together we can look forward to a very bright future outside the shackles of the EU.

Wouldn’t it be better to persuade Iceland to take them and the locals could show the Scots how to play football properly, an art form they have lost in recent decades. We could also send up all English premiership players for lessons every week or so. They too seem in dire need of effective coaching. The Welsh are exempt because they seem to know how to play already.

    not to lead a news bulletin or programme simply with the results of a voting intention poll;

Has the BBC really invented the idea of border polls in Northern Ireland and Scotland? Only in Alan’s fantasy land.

    Here’s another poll for you:

    http://www.itv.com/news/utv/2016-07-29/poll-says-66-of-roi-in-favour-of-united-ireland/
