Jonathan Freedland and the BBC like to use historical events to understand and inform the present….using their own interpretation naturally. This week we were treated to a comparison of a fire in Glasgow to the one at Grenfell Tower.…Freedland told us this was a story about those with power and those with too little….in other words we don’t actually neeed an inquiry because Freedland has already passed judgement…it was those in power who ignored the concerns of the powerless and continued on regardless either knowingly or recklessly disregarding safety regulations and not bothering to even consider if the materials they were using were suitable…and all because they put private money and profit before public safety. Cancel the inquiry…job’s done already!
Perhaps Freedland would like an idea for next week’s programme…perhaps comparing the current ‘invasion’ of Europe to what happened to Rome….as mentioned in the previous post:
Britain and Europe face being overrun by mass migration from the Third World within 30 years, a senior Royal Navy strategist claimed yesterday.
In an apocalyptic vision of security dangers, Rear Admiral Chris Parry forecast ‘reverse colonisation’, where migrants become more dominant than their hosts.
He said the seeds of the problem were spiralling population growth and environmental destruction.
In the competition for resources, many would flee their homelands and head en masse for better places such as Britain.
The Internet, cheap foreign travel and free international phone calls would hasten the demise, he said, because new migrants would stay connected with their homelands rather than assimilate into the host country’s culture.
His prognosis is that Western civilisation faces a threat on a par with the collapse of the Roman Empire after the 5th century invasion of Rome by the Goths, the East Germanic tribe.
The insidious aspect of ‘climate change’ and the part it played in creating the ‘need’ to cover tower blocks all over the UK and Europe with insulating panels is, for some reason, being overlooked. Any ideas as to why?

An inconvenient truth perhaps? The BBC isn’t going to admit that the Green lobby has blood on its hands any time soon.

Possibly (not active or vetted yet) means to get around Graun / BBC broadcast only monopoly?:

Any talk of the fire regulations contraventions by those illegally sub-letting and causing overcrowding?
Next year but will be illegal for any letting of property with EPC ratings less than E. This will probably be tightened further in coming years. Possibly a driving factor behind insulating old tower blocks with inflammable plastic. But what is the carbon footprint of 100 incinerated human bodies?

I noticed a piece some days ago which put the blame where it actually should be. Apparently we had a fire safety rule based on BS4814 which covered this type of thing but a directive from the EU had to be used instead and the Insulation firm had lobbied for a less safe procedure and got it. But you will not hear this from the bBBC.

This is true. Nor will you the BBC let you hear about the behind the scenes skullduggery that resulted in a multitude of EU regulations, from the insane rules about incandescent lightbulbs to the availability of garden pesticides, in these two instances favouring giant Dutch and German companies at everyone else’s expense and inconvenience.

It was back in 2000. The relevant minister who could have lobbied for a more effective EU standard of cladding was Prescott “the man of the people.”. But was rushed through apparently to comply with the Kyoto agreement that Prescott had signed back in 1997.

Fol – and of course no-one wants to mention the fact that in places the stairwells were blocked with rubbish – except that I suppose that was the “hideously white” councils fault for not clearing it up quickly enough and nothing to do with the feckless attitude of some of the residents.
As for Mr Freedland – I heard this show being advertised in the week and resolved not to listen to it under any circumstances, and it sounds like I was not to be disappointed. Freedland obviously itching to show his BBC, virtue signalling/standing up for the “dispossesed” colours. This show was only ever going to go one way.

I was gonna pipe up, that I didn’t realise that the repulsive Johnathon Freedland worked for anyone other than the Guardian newspaper, but there again – the BBC is the Guardians televisual arm, thus Freedland would naturally contribute freely..

I’ve listened to this programme for a while and comrade freedland has moved further to the left for some reason – knowing al Beeb he is after better wages and the coveted John Humpreys £650k plus allowances award,
This programme was so bad it was funny. It drew paralells with prejudice to the criminal investigation and public inquiry . It spoke of a nasty landlord causing I think 34 deaths and said that working class people still get athe shitty end of the stick- it didn’t mention the evil Tory council having spend ten million pounds tarting a council block up and improving its energy efficiency. . Some of his programmes profess neutrality but not this one.

Grant,
In the programme Freedland glossed over what happened to the survivors – they were put in the work house.

I pity those poor people of Hampton Court and Windor Castle, because as we know fires only happen where people aren’t rich.

Last week I was talking too someone who was convinced that the fire was caused by “greedy landlords”. I explained the wider context, as mention in the two posts pasted above, but was told I was wrong. The proof given was that if I was right the EU law would also have applied in Scotland, but all the tower blocks in Scotland have been inspected and none of them have cladding that is a fire risk.
Does anyone know results of the inspections in Scotland?

Typical of Freedland to head to the Gorbals to get his parallel story.
Were those who died Celtic fans and therefore victims of the Ulster Protestant tendency at Rangers games?
If so, well who could blame the IRA-let alone Salmond and Sturgeon for their anger that still burns a century on.
As for me?…I think of Summerland 1973, as well as countless fires in places like Bangladesh since then.
Can`t imagine that they`ll care too much for Summerland-that`d be expendable hideously white chavs at a poor mans Butlins somewhere northern. Just the wrong kind of victim for the BBCs agenda. Probably would have voted Brexit anyway.
