Start the Week Open Thread 3 December 2018

The Far Left BBC has been silent on the poisonous UN Treaty on Migrants which the outgoing PM will sign on our behalf this week. It is a horror and shows how far the UN has become a disfunctional lefty cancer in need to urgent reform .

When the next government – of whatever type incorporates the treaty into UK law people will wonder what the hell is going on – bet the BBC won’t tell them .

There is a petition on the government website and I am sure some friend will put up the link in

ITV local news doing the TV equivalent of CutNpasting activist PR
“Oh look activists are protesting outside Drax meeting about their new large gas power plant plan, where they convert existing coal turbines to gas”
…cut’s to the footage ..there are just 3 sometimes 6 protesters !
How can they cover that but not cover the thousands or tens of Thousands at a Tommy R event ?

BBC Look North has just opened, putting the story as #2
BBC is almost exactly the same report : interview of the leader of the 6 this afternoon, then LIVE footage of a reporter standing the dark
..ah BBC added in the Attenborough clip for 30s
And the BBC’s Paul Murphy added at the end “the danger is that some of this gas could come from CONTROVERSIAL fracking”
And then the plea “what do you think , contact us on social media”

They could vote on a motion to withdraw A50 and revoke the Act which is due to take us out of the ReichEU at the end of March .

Arguably to be credible the commons would need the support of a new referendum to do this but it’s not legally required .

Warning – I did a bit of constitutional law but am not a lawyer and would not be offended to be put right .

It was just a matter of time really.
Didnt even bother reading the article as I think I can guess most of its content.. Looks like Nigel has decided that in the end he will be a lot better off going back to his roots. Thanks for the referendum Nigel.
But no thanks for abandoning us.
Then again I dont blame you for going. You obviously would have had difficulty being associated with a party that is actually concerned with real issues that affect real working people, not living in London. It is interesting that politicians that have never lived cheek in a vibrant community are always so quick to condemn those who have the temerity to tell it as it is. Still lots of time to enjoy the MSM hospitality and no more “difficult” questions. You can now whore your elitist wares to every progressive media outlet that will listen.
In fact you have just enough time to put the boot into UKIP before the next election.

Well said. I’m quite disappointed with Nigel. UKIP aren’t getting any airtime on the media to say what a crock of shit this deal is and hence they have to get the attention of the media with a little bit of controversy.

It’s right out of Trump’s playbook. I think maybe Nigel has forgotten what it’s like to not be called by the media because they don’t want you saying things that their agenda doesn’t want to hear.

Batten is doing really well with UKIP and its a shame that Farage has to be stirring up shit right now. I thought he’d be better than that.

Just a few days before an anti-brexit rally Nigel Farage has resigned from Ukip. Joining his former arch enemy Evans to put the boot into his former party which he deserted in it’s hour of need.
Reading the comments in Telegraph a lot of people are buying into the ‘Far right’ and ‘racist’ accusations against ukip.
In the party itself, however, there will be a sizable chunk of people celebrating as he had been losing support of the members for years.
Good riddance, I say. But that’s not important. I dread what the Beeb will make of it. For once he will be a hero with them and the egocentric little man will lap it up thinking he has now been accepted by the establishment. I hope the Brexit march is well attended on the 9th because Brexit badly needs a public show of solidarity.
But as always Farage puts his own bitter feelings first and reveals his own very sad state of mind.

Not really surprised Yasser – Feet of clay like all the rest. If Nigel cant play with his old toys anymore , he will stamp on them and make sure no-one else can.

At the end of the day – I expect there will be few Telegraph readers there anyway and they would probably never vote UKIP anyway. You can see these people for what they are a mile off. Last week there was an article on the Con Woman Website saying its time Brexiteers got angry and pushing the twenty quid a ticket Brexit rally later on this month but completely “forgot” to mention the march on the 9th.
I did comment on his accidental “omission”
At the end of the day the elite will always look after itself and I am afraid though very “clubbable” Nigel is part of the problem and only really cares about himself, and probably doesnt really give a flying F##K about the rest of us.
As for the BEEB well they will say what they say anyway. Though I think a good proportion of the public now realise that Aunty is nothing more than a propaganda outfit.

People have short memories. Nigel was the reason we had the referendum, – its not his fault that UKIP / Labour / Conservative have a load of numbnuts who couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery if their life depended on it. Wasn’t that long ago on here that some were calling for Nigel to be knighted. Seems there are more than a few numbnuts on here too !!!

        • Yasser Dasmibehbi says:

I don’t think anybody in Ukip forgets what Nigel was able to do.
But what a lot of people refuse to understand is what he couldn’t do.
He couldn’t run a party for starters. His was brilliant on the front line and people could follow him when he was charging forward. He got so far forward and lost his way. He called his own members and supporters names saying, in effect, they were, deplorables. This was long before Tommy Robinson came on the scene.
I think it is Farage who has the selective memory.

What I see as a problem is if Nigel, with help from Aaron Banks, starts another party to push for the leave we voted for.
That will split the leave vote and can only be good for remain (everything seems to be going their way at the moment)

When will the fire and fury start because of the ‘elite’ ignoring our referendum result and going against democracy or are we just going to sit back and take it.
We need a few French people to show us what to do because we are letting them get away with everything they try and (me as well) we just complain.
            When will our riots start?

But as discussed here not so long ago, a lot of people will not vote for a party with TR on board. I’m not defending it, I see it as hypocrisy, but it’s a problem nonetheless.

Farage knows this. In any case, I predict a very low turnout at the next general election, whenever it is. People must be wondering what the point is.

Farage has always admitted that he’s a reluctant politician, but the management of UKIP did not improve when he stood down. Small parties are an ungovernable pain the neck in many respects.

I watched Newsnight yesterday evening (yes, I know, I know). The first ten minutes or so saw Kirsty Wark interviewing the Solicitor-General and his shadow regarding the Attorney-General’s legal advice about the Brexit deal. Following that Miss Wark made her way to another part of the studio where Caroline Lucas and Jacob Rees-Mogg were seated waiting to discuss the possible contempt of Parliament adumbrated by Speaker Bercow.

As Ms Wark approached them, Mr Rees-Mogg made to rise from his chair: a gentleman rising from his seat as a lady approaches. At one time this would have been an automatic action on the part of anyone who considered himself to be an English gentleman. But it was half a rise only; it looked to me very much as if Mr Rees-Mogg thought better of his natural inclinations. Perhaps he considered that he was in a BBC studio, where traditional notions of civility and courtesy no longer hold sway; perhaps he considered that Miss Wark, far from being a lady is in fact a hard-nosed BBC apparatchick who would dismiss traditional notions of civility and courtesy as the actions of a far-right fascist.

I look forward to the Twitter twits condemning Mr Rees-Mogg for objectifying women with his crassly outdated ideas of courtesy. A telling vignette for our times, I thought. Did anybody else see it?

That made me think of a stark difference in cultural behaviour in South Africa:

A white man, if he is an old-fashioned gentleman, would hold the door of a restaurant open for a lady to enter before him.

A Zulu doing the same thing would be regarded as a coward since he is ushering a woman in first to face potential danger.

        True Too,
That’s the German way also. From the medieval practice, the man was expected to go in first in case there was any danger on the other side of the door. It’s considered rude for a German man to send a lady through the door first.

Some may call her ‘butch’ based on her manner and build. One day, leaaving my office for lunch with her, I walked around to my door to get in and was intending opening the passenger door from inside. Having alighted, she turned on me for not opening the passenger door for her first.

I’m struggling to understand the breaking news, bottom of previous page, re the parliamentary vote.

    From Fedup2’s comment:
“Government just lost vote and must disclose legal advice for sellout by the 11th.”

    From theisland’s comment:

“MPs vote 321-299 for parliament to control Brexit if deal voted down, another government defeat.”

Are those two two results part of the same vote?

And then there is the 48-letter thing for no confidence in May’s handling of Brexit, if I have that right. Is that going along swimmingly or do too many MPs have writer’s cramp?

Can someone among my esteemed colleagues enlighten me as to the state of play?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Roland Deschain says:

      They’re separate votes.

If May loses, Parliament can tell the government what to do next. Though how it can tell it to agree another deal when there IS no other deal is a mystery. In reality, we all know it will tell the government to halt Brexit. As has been the plan. Surely no one can believe today’s announcement by the European Court of Justice was just happy chance? If they do, I have a bridge to sell them.

As for the 48 letters? Currently in cold storage. There was a worry that an unsuccessful challenge would mean no further challenge could be made for 12 months.

There was an old movie, The Stepford Wives I think it was called. They get taken over by extra-terrestrial spirits and bow to the God of conformity, speaking with one voice as enslaved housewives.

May and Leadsom are now bowing in submission to the EU God, and I’m sure there are many more.

And there is definitely no shortage of Stepford husbands in parliament.

About ‘Stepford Wives’, only in the interests of correctness, it doesn’t change your main point, in the old movie, the husbands formed a club and decided to replace their wives with externally identical robots/androids who all behaved like perfect little housewives. One of the wives tried to stop it but failed. There was a more recent remake in which the women do get some revenge but there my memory of it ends.

I think the government would like to replace all of us pesky voters with compliant androids. (or muslims …. oooh naughty, Tommy Robinson made me do it )

Basically she is saying she can’t support herself because no-one will buy the goods she produces, so she demands subsidy from the taxpayer. God, we could all make such an absurd demand, but most of us would be too ashamed or embarrassed to do so. I say no public money for artists. I think we should return to the days of private patronage. If there is some rich idiot somewhere willing to support them, then fair enough. Dilution by another description. That’s why the Right is now Left in this country and the Left has moved to well within the Marxism belt.

        And/or merely playing politics?

Along with Gove’s statement last week about accepting the deal, it could be they are trying to score some Party political points by luring in Labour to paint themselves as Remainers. If you make a statement some way ahead of the vote – about accepting the deal – but then vote it down in the actual vote, you can excuse yourself in all sorts of ways afterwards.

But ssshhhh! don’t make a lot of noise that about this; it may spoil it.

I think Gove sees himself as the compromise candidate between Remainers and Leavers when the men in suits try to stop the Conservative Party tearing itself apart in a leadership election. It won’t work as he’s now hated by both sides.

Leadsome I see as someone who had her spirit broken when she was knifed to give May a clear run without having to face a vote by party members. She still knows the difference between right and wrong, but is going to do what she’s told.

I thought he spoke very well but I wonder if B-BBCers noticed in one line he managed to get out without an interjection from Justinterruption Brexit-Webb?

Like Philip Hammond last month, Raab let slip that the UK is not independent but is already a (trapped) member of a European State, something that the Remain campaign denied would ever happen in future (they are largely ignorant of the various Treaties from Rome 1957-onwards) and was certainly not the case in 2016.

Now two MPs, one a senior Minister, one a former Minister, have said it on air.

Briefly listened to Vine earlier (by accident) – Brexit on the menu yet again and, true to BBC form, if you had just landed from a galaxy far, far away you would be forgiven for thinking these were pre-referendum discussions debating the relative merits of leave or remain rather than why hasn’t the vote of the people been honoured by the government as promised..

Anyway, it got me thinking: has the BBC ever, on any programme – tv or radio – seriously explored the practicalities of leaving without a deal and trading on WTO terms? From various articles I have read it seems eminently achievable if only the EU agreed to co-operate. I know I’ve partly answered my own question in terms of why the BBC shouldn’t i.e. it would show the EU up for what they are – bullying, arrogant, anti-democratic psychopaths intent on punishment rather than co-operation – but I’d still be interested to hear if this has ever been properly explored by the BBC.

Do you remember way back recently when the BBC were getting in a right tizzy over the problems of foreign intervention in the Brexit Referendum and General Elections here and in the USA & elsewhere? Remember their fuss about interventions in ‘our democratic processes and institutions’?

    Well yesterday we had:
“The UK should be able to unilaterally cancel its withdrawal from the EU, according to a top European law officer.
The non-binding opinion was delivered by an advocate general of the European Court of Justice.
A group of Scottish politicians has asked the court whether the UK can call off Brexit without the consent of other member states.
The Court of Justice (ECJ) will deliver its final ruling at a later date.”
    taken from https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-46428579

Note how it is now taken out of the mainstream (if it was ever there) on the web-site and placed on the Scotland page? It was briefly mentioned on TWT last night and may have been mentioned on TOADY but I only listened from 8.10am onwards where it had the scantest of mentions.

The Evening Standard yesterday in the first of two final editions had the front page headline:
EUROPE TO BRITAIN: YOU CAN STOP BREXIT
Dramatic guidance from Court of Justice (note – no European prefix) as MPs unite to block May threat of no deal.

Please bear in mind the newspaper is Russian owned and Edited by arch-Remainer and former MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne. Now, I think the BBC should be making a big fuss about that foreign interference in our Parliamentary process.

    I wonder if they will?

It is not ok to call Matteo Salvini as ‘Trump without a tan’!

I thought it said more about the state of BBC loon Taylor that he and friend were the only two whites present in the audience at the prior concert. No other white people attended save for the extreme leftists of the BBC !
