I was going to call it the Easter Open Thread but this site is primarily about bearing witness to the bias of the Far Left BBC as opposed to specific religions [or none ]. Any way – there is a new line of attack for us . The BBC has whole heartedly swallowed all the human- activity-changing- climate stuff . You may agree or not .
But the point is – if the BBC wants to cut its ‘carbon fingerprint ‘ – is it doing it ? How many beeboids are sent to stand in front of events to talk at the camera when they’d do the same job sitting in a studio ? How much carbon is used and taxpayers’ cash spent ?
‘Does this evil organisation practice what it now preaches ? Perhaps every programme should have its carbon footprint published – the number of air miles and car miles – and programme cost -for starters .
Happy Easter .
Meanwhile in the once-centre-of-the-civilised world, Athens, no-go areas where even the police fear to tread are expanding. From the report…
“the neighborhood has… platoons, companies, battalions, Kalashnikovs. I don’t know any more if we, as a police force, have the political mandate to clear the area. This region is a matter for the army now.” — Stavros Balaskas, vice president of the Greek Federation of Police Officers.
It appears to be a collaboration between people traffickers and, get this, left-wing militants. The full report is at https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14082/greece-no-go-zone-athens
Bet we don’t see this mentioned on the BBC any time soon.

Brussels has ruined Europe. No surprise that the BBC won’t talk about it or why the Yellow vests are protesting. This is unfortunately the future of Europe, anarchy, desperation and eventually, disintegration. And the key is disinformation and the BBC are happy to interpret that as a success across Europe. A multi cultural endorsement of international socialism and liberal free expression.
MEP’s (as Farage has stated) have no power to block or alter a directive or EU mandate. They are there only to endorse it and take it back to the home country to put it into local law. our own parliament is powerless to stop any EU directive or stop the creation of a European Army or even opt out of the ‘Euro’ (a flawed currency) which can only be avoided if we leave. If we stay – we end up like GREECE. We still have the loony lefties, the greenies and the Trots sparked by the BBC to push us over the edge. We don’t want any part of what the EU is becoming or what GREECE is having to put up with. We cannot even help them under EU rules, just watch and learn.

Focusing on Climate Change blunders from the BBC –
/
Accuracy is one the fundamental requirements imposed on the BBC by its Charter.
For years, however, it has been sorely lacking in its handling of climate related matters.
Most of the time, the BBC gets away with it, simply because people don’t realise it, or if they do don’t complain, or if they do are fobbed off all too easily.

Most of the time, the BBC gets away with it, simply because people don’t realise it, or if they do don’t complain, or if they do are fobbed off all too easily.
However in recent months, it has been forced to retract three totally fallacious claims, which could and should have been avoided with a few simple checks.

When Homewood wrote the above he appears to have given the BBC the benefit of the doubt in that they were just incompetent.
In a later piece after they brought in new climate reporting guidelines he was very scathing –
“The fact that they don’t tells us more about the BBC’s left wing leanings than the state of climate science. A view confirmed by the gleeful approval of the Guardian’s Damian Carrington today”.
I think he perhaps has realised that the BBC has is actively promoting the far left political agenda to try and scare people into voting for their (crazy) policies.
Extinction Rebellion seem to believe all the nonsense about ‘the world is about to end and something has to be done about it’ However, if the BBC were honest they should be explaining to the rest of us just how misguided they are. Of course they fail in that duty because it suits their purpose.

The BBC is frequently criticised for its poor reporting on Climate change and this is an opportunity for it to do a ‘fact check’ on the claims of Extinction Rebellion. The BBC has reported, “They’re demanding the declaration of a climate emergency, net zero emissions by 2025 and a UK citizens’ assembly to supervise it all”. The general public are concerned as to whether the views expressed are justified by scientific knowledge and if so, then is the target of zero emissions achievable in the time frame proposed? The state broadcaster reports on the disruption and, “Bill McKibben is an environmentalist who has been at the forefront of climate activism for much of the last 30 years. His new book, Falter, paints a rather bleak picture of the effects that humans have had on our natural environment”. If this is to be taken as some sort of endorsement, then has the BBC fulfilled the requirements of its Charter?

Mysterious explosions going off in several churches and hotels across Sri Lanka, leaving 20 killed and more than 200 injured. Strangely, the BBC doesn’t seem at all curious who might be behind these attacks, or even why. It doesn’t even speculate.
“…Sri Lanka explosions: 20 killed as churches and hotels targeted
At least 20 people are reported to have been killed and more than 200 injured in explosions at churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.
At least six explosions have been reported. Three churches in Kochchikade, Katuwapitiya and Batticaloa were targeted. The Shangri La, Cinnamon Grand and Kingsbury hotels, all in Colombo, were also hit Easter Sunday is one of the major feasts in the Christian calendar. Images on social media showed the inside of one of the churches – St Sebastian’s in Katuwapitiya – with a shattered ceiling and blood on the pews.”

More than 130 people reported as having been murdered at time of writing (0845). Another mass killing in a Commonwealth country. But don’t expect days and weeks of coverage as with Christchurch – it will probably be off the front page by dinner time. The BBC are starting to gently pull the curtain aside to reveal some possible culprits: “There have been fears that Islamic State group fighters returning from the Middle East could pose a threat in the country.” But they quickly add: “In the years since the end of Sri Lanka’s civil war in 2009, there has been some sporadic violence, with members of the majority Buddhist Sinhala community attacking mosques and Muslim-owned properties.” See what they did there? If one didn’t know better, one might think they are subtly trying to imply that violence between Buddhists and Muslims somehow explains or maybe even ‘justifies’ mass murder against Christians and foreigners.

Police chief Pujuth Jayasundara sent an intelligence warning to top officers on April 11 setting out the threat.
“A foreign intelligence agency has reported that the NTJ (National Thowheeth Jama’ath) is planning to carry out suicide attacks targeting prominent churches as well as the Indian high commission in Colombo,” said the alert.
The NTJ is a radical Muslim group in Sri Lanka that came to notice last year when it was linked to the vandalism of Buddhist statues.
Only around six percent of mainly Buddhist Sri Lanka is Catholic, but the religion is seen as a unifying force because it includes people from both the Tamil and majority Sinhalese ethnic groups.

Interesting to see how the BBC deal with this.

Obi,
The news report used the expression, “Churches” so, at this stage, we have to think, Christian Churches, it being Easter an’ all.
Estimated primary religion of Sri Lanka is Buddhist (70.2% 2011); Christian, 6.1%; 9.7% Sunni muslim.
Buddhists use Temples not Churches.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Sri_Lanka
All things said, Buddhists in that part of the World have not been found to be a soft touch when it comes to confrontation with muslims. On the other hand, ‘turning the other cheek’ Christians, are.
In any event, as you assert ObiWan, we will not be told the truth by the MSM in general and in particular our far left Cultural Marxist State Broadcaster so, ‘hey ho’ I join the dots.

A big dog whistle : how come those French billionaires quickly gave to ‘Notre Dame & not Grenfell ..oh it’s not fair billionaires have money, they should have it taken off them’
#PoliticsOfEnvy
FFS comparing the two events is the fallacy of comparing apples and oranges.
– You’ve got a load of people in a block of flats in London, living a fairly privileged life cos they are in the middle of London, and many are breaking the laws by subletting and cramming too many people in, some don’t have legal right to be in the UK, yet they got an amnesty for all that.
The local council promised to set up all the tenants in alternative nearby places, they had luxury hotel accomodation from day 1.
Most people would have had their own insurance, at least all of the private owners .
Why did no billionaire give a £100m to Grenfell ?
..err cos no one asked.
No money will bring the dead back to life
some money will help fill the gaps where insurance or gov doesn’t cover the injured
hence the £27m
… whereas the French government appealed for €1bn to rebuild Notre Dame
The magnitudes asked are completely different

“…………how come those French billionaires quickly gave to Notre Dame & not Grenfell?”
Maybe it’s because they wanted their money to be spent wisely instead of being given to so-called victims who were actually nothing more than illegal immigrants and criminals, lying and cheating their way through life.

It’s a ludicrous comparison to make. Grenfell and Notre Dame atr two totally different situations.
There were endless appeals to assist the survivors of Grenfell. Lots of people donated, but the survivors were never going to return to their old home. The ghastly tower block wasn’t going to be rebuilt. Who’d want to live there?
Notre Dame is a stunningly beautiful old building. It will take billions to repair after the…accident. And we must repair it.
It’s just so bloody typical of these foul left wing shit stirrers to try to capitalise on a tragedy.

“Sri Lanka blast hints at growing terror in South Asia, ISIS hand suspected –
– The pattern of the Sri Lanka attack – a series of coordinated blasts at high-value targets, intelligence units said – was typical of the Da’esh
– ‘No Tamil fringe group is responsible for this attack,’ said a senior Union home ministry official.
– If you observe the pattern of the attack it is a classic Islamic State attack. A collective of people has been targeted using explosives. The government is working closely with Sri Lanka to get to the bottom of this. As of now, we are strongly suspecting IS because of the nature of the attack, but forensics will try to establish the explosive used, and the kind of detonator and other details to get to the bottom of this.”

Just an interesting aside from the horrific attack in Sri Lanka.
Did anyone else notice a piece on the BBC news just after the Notre Dame “accident” last week?
One of their correspondents visited a nearby church of similar vintage to Notre Dame. Strangely (or not) a week or two ago this old building also caught fire. There was substantial damage, though nothing like as devastating as the Notre Dame disaster.
The Beeb journo clambered up into the rafters and said “Look, it’s all wood and very dry…” It was as though he was looking for a reason why these old buildings should suddenly take it upon themselves to self detonate… after standing unharmed for 800 years.
Is it just me or does this look Suss?

Absolutely unbelievable bias by omission from the BBC.
This is the lead article on their website concerning the Sri Lanka attacks and they have ensured there is not a single implication that it could be Islamic in nature.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-48001720
Worse still, they have the gall to imply it’s Buddists that are responsible by saying “In the years since the end of Sri Lanka’s civil war in 2009, there has been some sporadic violence, with members of the majority Buddhist Sinhala community attacking mosques and Muslim-owned properties.”
Coverage on other news outlets clearly state it was Muslim suicide bombers but the BBC strangely fail to mention the fact and instead imply Buddists could be the culprits.

The likely cause of the atrocity was that a group of RoPers decided , as their custome and religion dictates, to avenge the death of their co religionists in New Zealand. This is most likely to be the truth. Yet another example of why having Muslims in your country is a really bad idea if you are not a Muslim. But will the dim witted liberals in the West accept this? Not a chance. By the way the Muslims make up about 10% of the Sri Lankan population. In the UK we will reach that % in a decade or two.

The bias by omission is frequent enough to be seen as simply a sad and pathetic reflection of government/BBC policy. But is it through fear, or cowardice or the childish hope that it will all go away, one day? Do they really believe that these events are aberrations?
Or is it due to something altogether more sinister? Makes you wonder, don’t it?

I’m able to follow Sky News through YouTube and have just watched a 10 or 15 minute report on the Sri Lankan bombings without hearing or reading the words “Islam” or “Muslim” at all. I did find out though that the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and Turkey, the only countries mentioned, are amongst those condemning the attacks.
I know it’s not the bBC but they are two cheeks of the same arse. This report was followed, in the same amateurish and agenda-driven way as all of their journalism seems to be, by an update from Waterloo Bridge where they had a pleasant chat with probably the only two black protesters there, one of whom was encouraged to spout complete and utter cosmic/ hippy crap in an affected mid-Atlantic accent, unchallenged for around 5 minutes.
The standard of our mainstream journalism and journalists, bBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, really is utterly, utterly, pathetic. Everyday their stupidity and their scattergun scaremongering insults, embarrasses, and angers me more and more. They disgust me.

Those are very strange figures. A more accurate methodology is to analyse BBC television programmes plus adverts on the commercial channels for banks, furniture shops and supermarkets. This proves conclusively that the true ethnic mix of Britain is:
White 10%
Black 40%
Mixed 20%
Asian (i.e. Indian sub-continent) 29%
Real Asians (i.e. Chinese, Japanese etc) 1%
Also worth pointing out that: women make up 80% of the population; 50% are homosexual; 25% are transgendered; 40% use wheelchairs; 65% are followers of Islam; 120% want the cost of the television license to increase (secret BBC survey); 0% Extinction Rebellion protesters to be charged.

Next, censorship, arrests, prosecutions, until the only authorised voice on such matters is the beeb.

Also, I just read through the BT News article:
“Fears for Britons caught up in ‘truly appalling’ Easter attack in Sri Lanka”
Not once is the I word or the M word mentioned in this piece.
OK not the BBC but as I keep saying most of the news media has the same problem.
I wonder what they are afraid of?
Next there will be appeals for extra police protection for mosks.

Yes, the backlash could be terrible.

Just sped through a part of Thursday’s Spectator, sped past ‘The week ahead’ and then ground to a halt as I’d just read this:
•Pope marks Easter at the Vatican
•72-year-old Frenchman expects to arrive in Caribbean in floating barrel
Because I was racing through, I read it as:
Pope expects to arrive in Caribbean in floating barrel
I was quite impressed, as I figured that he was really demonstrating both a strong awareness of his carbon footprint and complete identification with the masses.
Edit: I should note this was on Saturday, before the horrific attacks on the churches in Sri Lanka.

I wish he would go to the Caribbean in a floating barrel… and stay there as a more muscular Pope runs things, instead of endlessly washing muslims’ feet. How they must have laughed.

vlad,
Yes, he seems to think it’s his religious duty to be politically correct.
I recall that he berated Trump for having the audacity to want Americans to decide who crosses the borders into their country.

Most Christian ‘leaders’, are terrified of appearing un-cool, un-trendy, or worst of all, biased… towards Christianity!
That’s your job, morons, read the job description.
See the vid above, with Damian Thompson and Peter Whittle, posted by ObiWan.

Vlad- a bit heavy on the generalisation methinks . Can’t comment on the BBC coverage of the 200 plus mass murders as I’ve been at Church until this afternoon
It wasn’t easy because there are quite a few Shri lankans in the parish directly affected by it .
I guess it’s only a matter of time before a church here is attacked . I suppose the BBC will blame it on a ‘gas explosion ‘ or Similar ….

The Sun tells me that 40% of Tory Councilors back the Brexit Party and 75% want May to resign, much to her “dismay.”
The Sun also tells me that Corbyn mocked captured British troops during a rally in 2005 and that the incomparable Dianne Abbott was filmed drinking alcohol on an “overground” train.
In a sane society, the likes of Corbyn and Abbott would only ever operate underground, in the shadows where they belong.
(I should add that the Sun did not shower Abbott with sympathy as did other alleged publications – which fact my esteemed colleagues pointed out elsewhere on this thread.)
This brings me to the horrendous prospect of a Labour government, quite likely since the Tories seem more split and damaged than Labour and both UKIP and Brexit are likely to attract more disenchanted Tory voters than Labour voters.
A pessimist would say, if you can see light at the end of this tunnel you’re facing the wrong way.
Perhaps a realist would also say the same.
What would an optimist say, I find myself wondering.

Sri Lanka Church attacks.
The BBC have not once mentioned the word ‘Terrorism’. Perhaps because the public associate the word ‘Terrorism’ with Islam?
Wouldn’t want people to jump to conclusions, would they?

I notice the Mail has an article by someone called John Gray, calling UKIP a ‘ hard, far-right’ party which has ‘more in common with European neo-Fascist parties’.
I bet this little boy would have a hard job even trying to explain what ‘Fascist’ means, let alone analysing UKIP policy.
No doubt it will have something to do with being not ‘open’ or ‘tolerant’ or ‘diverse’ enough, and Mr G will be paying lip-service to e.g. border control, without serious consideration of implications of the relevant policies of the ‘centre’, he so much loves. Give him credit though, he has detected that, under J Corbyn, Labour has become more ‘extreme’. That’s a relief; I initially thought Gray was going to tell us he was a solid ‘centrist’.
I suppose Nigel is now ‘the centre’, to where he has graduated from his former position of ‘far right’?
Bet Mr Gray is pleased..
Now if I were tempted to buy a copy of the Mail, I should imagine it would make a good bin-liner. Serious political analysis is certainly going to be found elsewhere.

Everyone should submit their complaint –
“What David Attenborough told BBC viewers about this raging orangutan fighting a digger is only part of the truth… and that’s just one of the flaws in the great naturalist’s ‘alarmist’ new documentary, writes DAVID ROSE”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6943475/What-Attenborough-told-BBC-viewers-orangutan-fighting-digger-truth.html
“Given the reception that awaited Richard Madeley when he ventured last week that David Attenborough is “not a saint, just a broadcaster” – something which is evidently true, though I haven’t formally checked with the Vatican – one delves into this subject with some intrepidness. Nevertheless, great documentary-maker though he may be, Attenborough cannot be allowed to get away with the propaganda element of his latest piece, his documentary Climate Change: the Facts which went out on Thursday evening….”

not diverse enough for the BBC to care much about them.

BBC Online News:
“”Record Easter temperatures in three nations of the UK””
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48004374
But Easter varies in date. This Easter is almost the latest Easter ‘evva’.
But it wasn’t a record in England, the fourth nation. Not global warming then, as intimated.

Mark Hodgson said \\”Three of the UK’s nations have recorded their highest ever Easter Sunday temperatures, the Met Office has said.
– Scotland’s peak was 23.4C (74F), in Edinburgh, while in Wales the hotspot was Hawarden Airport in Flintshire, which reached 23.2C.
– Northern Ireland beat a 95-year-old record when the mercury hit 21C at Helen’s Bay near Bangor.
– England’s highest temperature so far has been 25C – in Wisley, Surrey – just shy of the record of 25.3C.”
Given that Easter Sunday is on a completely different date every year, but is very late this year (the internet tells me it can be any date between 22nd March and 25th April) it shouldn’t really be surprising that temperatures this year are higher than usual on an Easter Sunday. I also note that the new Welsh “record” was at an airport, which surely makes it a rather dubious record? And it isn’t the record in England.
What I would like to know (can anyone tell me?) is whether today’s temperatures have set a record for 21st April or for April generally? If neither, then the “Easter Sunday record temperatures” claim would start to look a bit limp.//

” have recorded their highest *ever* Easter Sunday temperatures”
NO, not “ever”…. just since record system was set up
BTW..in some previous instances records happened at places where temperature has been measured for 30 years

While al beeb remain totally baffled by the Sri Lanka attacks, CNN seem to know quite a lot, including names of suicide bombers. No doubt the most funded broadcaster will catch up in a few days.
Then stick it in Regional news.
