BBC Radio 4 Media Show, Guardian chappie guest explaining why they are refusing to release the Boris neighbour tapes and why in that case they still decided to run the story.
Key question I have is why decide it’s OK to run the story when you think its NOT OK to release the tapes that back it up?
Being very defensive and evasive in my opinion. Like most reasonably intelligent people I think considering their obvious hatred of Boris – we can make our own conclusions.

When is the ‘why don’t wimmin get the same money “ whinge going to start -? It’s a great Sw19 tradition …
Having lost cricket, most rugby, football and Formula 1 there’s only hot air ballooning and Murray left to fantasise about, so they have to make the most of it I suppose.
As for the gorilla she’ll probably give him a slap if he starts crying – but then again, she’d have Judy to contend with.
Maybe there will be a resurgence in amateur rally cross that i remember from the 1970’s … or was that on the independent channel with Dickie D? Whatever, mini’s getting rolled on a dirt track was rather fun.
Beltane, doesn’t have Dan Maskell these days though, does it?
“Oh, I say!”
Dan Maskell, Henry Longhurst, Peter Alliss, Raymond Baxter & son Peter, ‘EW’ Swanton, John Arlott, Brian Johnston, Henry Blofeld, Bill Frindall, Jack Fingleton, Alan McGilvray, Tony Cozier, Ted Lowe, Bill McLaren, Ian Robertson, Eddie Waring ….
Dear old Peter Alliss is a frightful snob, but I can excuse him anything after his sterling work in getting Linaker pushed off the BBC golf circus.
Our little Gary must have thought he’d finally made it socially when he briefly joined the team – but Mr Alliss knows a Johnny-cum-Lately when he meets one.
End of short-lived golf commentating career.
Now, who might do the same for football?
B
A couple of decades ago the, EU loving, world’s most biased broadcaster tried to Euroise their ouput.
Peter Alliss was instructed to use metres instead of imperial (yards or feet) measurements to describe, eg the length of putts.
Alliss did not object, but he did not comply either.
Alliss counted the steps of the golfers, then described the situation as “Golfer X has a putt of Y paces”.
One summer of this and the BBC gave up, with all their commentators, not just Alliss.
Beltane, gotta agree and a bit of a failure as a player when Jacklin, Townsend, Clark, Barnes and others came along not half a generation later.
I couldn’t stand him at first, especially when compared to the incomparable Henry Longhurst but I have to concede that Alliss – and some of his current co-presenters also – matured and improved in time. Think that is a mark of a commentator in the range of somewhere from very good to great; they work at it and mature and improve.
Now, that one who helps flog the crisps … . . . . . .

\\ Sir Mark Rowley called on Google to amend its technology to help stop the spread of terrorist material.
He says it is a disgrace Anjem Choudary ranks top for search term “British Muslim spokesman”
quote : If you search for “British Muslim spokesman” on Google, the top results are an infamous British extremist and a convicted terrorist. This is offensive to Muslims and great propaganda for the far right
em in the real world no one ever foes that search !
so it’s irrelevant.
#2 seeking to control search terms is Orwellian
#3 If you test today with quotation marks the top 20 hits are actually to this year’s newspaper stories about this search
without quotes it does result in Anjem Choudhury Wikipedia page on your screen.
“The four sports that Paris has proposed are all totally in line with Olympic Agenda 2020 because they contribute to making the programme more gender balanced and more urban, and offer the opportunity to connect with the younger generation,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “The proposed sports are in line with these principles and enhance Paris 2024’s overall dynamic Games concept, which focuses on inclusivity, inspiring a new audience and hosting socially responsible Games.”
Why didn’t I just know it’s more levelling the playing field and giving everyone a gong! Also if most of the participants populating our local skateboard park is anything to go by the phrase “Socially Responsible” is not the first one that would come to my mind unless extra points can be scored for foul language and substance possession.
Parcours and Popping* would be more relevant to today’s youth.
(* I only know about this because the BBC informed me about it in the week after Glastonbury. Which they are still going on about! If you ask me, ‘Popping’ is a bit feeble; sort of Pans People meet Marcel Marceau to the sound of some fairly boring music.)
Looks like the BBC is geeing up a war between China and Blighty over Hong Kong …..
…..bit weird as the BBC seems to be going on a colonial stance against a country a long way away

1. Tommy Robinson is on trial again tomorrow for the same contempt of court matter he was already jailed for once. I’ll be covering the trial on Twitter as always, and also on video. We’re also bringing https://t.co/VcbFInCWS1 — because you can’t trust the Media Party.
BBC 1 news at 1820.
The women’s football match on the BBC was the most watched programme of the year so far.
Got that ?
Let me repeat.
The women’s football match on the BBC was the most watched programme of the year so far.
Got the message now? Do I need to repeat?
The BBC really, really, really want you to know that.
The BBC. No news. All agenda.
Owen Jones has a column in the BBC Guardian Newspaper which says “ a partisan civil service is a threat to us all” in the context of fuzzy Comrade Corbyn .
I didn’t read the article – I’d never read anything by him – he is not worthy of the time of reasoned people . It just made me laugh that he moans about a civil service which commented on his boss – yet when it comes to years of civil service – pro Reich EU work habits – not a mention .
Many years ago -when I was studying EU Law at the end of my degree – I’ll never forget what my prof said in relation to the UK and it’s implementation of EU law .
NB – I should have left enough troll food in this one for the drunken 2a.m. Troll Visitor(s).
He said whereas many EU states enforce EU laws if it suits them – if it doesn’t – they aren’t too enthusiastic about enforcement – where as the UK always produced a ‘gold plated ‘ version courtesy of civil servants seeing the EU as superior and the place to want to go and work .
So little – limited intellect – Owen – look a bit deeper when you want to criticise the traitorous Civil Service – at the deep end of the Swamp ….
just to support Fedup’s thesis with a variation on the theme.
Check out and compare the 2005 implementation of the EU directive on Asbestos in a. The UK b. Italy.
In the UK- gold plated. Prescott wanted to show how pro-worker he was so the directive was toughened up and implemented early (around 2002).
Lots of paper-chasing and holding-meetings job creation for civil servants.
In Italy, they did nothing except waited until Dec 31 2004, the last day – and produced a 1 pager saying in terms ‘EU Directive xyz is hereby incorporated into Italian law from Jan 1 2005’. End of’. How or whether they actually enforced it I do not know.
But the difference in approach was stark. As may be gathered, I had a ringside seat.
A feature of the EU issue is that there are these cases where the EU has taken the blame but really it was the UK government and civil service that did the damage. Denmark for instance seems to have a strict immigration policy which we could have had……but didn’t.
So ironically the actions of the pro EU gold-platers directly caused some of us to become Brexiteers. The very opposite of what they intended.
Sluff
The collective wisdom of all in the seminar in which I was sitting was that the EU and the UK just weren’t made for each other – and that included the Prof .
A decade or two down the line look what – hopefully – comes to pass . I do enjoy being pronounced ‘thick ‘ by the likes of `Soubry when it comes to wanting to leave the EU as a political unit as opposed to Europe – which we are sort of related too – until they have another civil war ….
Sluff – yes just about to post below but I see you’ve got there already with your comment :
We should never forget that, although we rightly depise the EU, there were very destructive and detrimental decisions made by our own civil servants and politicians which were made ultra vires the EU’s remit or we rigidly enforced their stupid rules while every other country ignored them.
A “man” and a “woman” arrested in Luton on terrorism charges.
Clearly not white or far right or supporters of Tommy Robinson, or the biased BBC would have said so and made more of it.
A socialist asked a question during PMQs about the BBC breaching it’s promise to retain free TV licences for the over 75s . So guido researched this slugs’ expense claims and found that he recovered the cost of his TV licence from the taxpayer .
Set me thinking – how many MPs actually pay for their TV licence as opposed to getting the taxpayer to do it ? Would the list make double figures ..?
no doubt the beeb has done its figures, they are probably banking on say 50% paying up – this might make up for the people stop paying.
Personally i feel close it down, it no longer represents the people of the United Kingdom. Maybe a name change to EU.BC. How about just doing actual news and cutting the extra added crap
“So guido researched this slugs’ expense claims and found that he recovered the cost of his TV licence from the taxpayer ”
If this is true; and I have no reason to believe that its not true; then no wonder the BBC always seem to get what she asks the MPs for its regular increase of the licence fee.
Good grief!
Who on earth is running [down] this nation of ours?
Guido published the extract from this characters ‘ expenses claims .if he had any honour he would have declared how re claimed a refund for his TV licence before asking the question .
Don’t get me wrong – £150 is peanuts to these characters – there is never just one address and I suspect most own more than two – in and out of Blighty .
But to many people a sum like £150 would worry them and keep them awake at night . As well as the fear of a visit from the TV licencing gestapo and the shame of being caught .decent elderly people – abuser the the alien British State and its’ bloated self serving broadcaster .
One has to wonder how much of the likes of The Guardian and BBC are funded by various bits of the public sector.
Never thought I’d be watching the Smithsonian channel and PBS America – but who could have believed the British State and it’s Broadcaster could have turned into Far Left mush so quickly .?
The machinations of the British State will be demonstrated on Thursday when TR goes to court . Does the court throw the case out ? Postpone it again to increase stress and costs , or run the trial
If there is a trial without a jury he will be convicted . It’s a political trial .
If there is a trial with a jury he will be convicted – try finding a non snowflake jury in Londonistan
And if he is convicted – off to a Muslim dominated prison …. for more physical and psychological torture.
Probably just accidents… some kids playing and a machete slipped, nothing to worry about. Add it to the list of French churches spontaneously combusting and let’s all watch Stormzy rap about ballet shoes instead
Not politically motivated he says !!!! Pull the other one you publicity seeking non entity !!!!
Is this really news? A publicity seeking nutter who's got it in for Johnson taking a ridiculous case to court? Only if it supports the BBC's anti-Boris, anti-Brexit agenda. #bbcbias. Time to scrap the licence fee.
flicking through the channels, as you do, and there’s a football match between an orange team and a blue team on BBC. Swear to God I saw Gazza in a pink wig and false eyelashes playing No.7 for the oranges ..going to lie down now!!..too much red wine?
The BBC reports that the man who fell from the aircraft over London wasn’t very well known in Kenya, but even though he was only in the UK a short time he made a tremendous impact!
In other news Amazons drone delivery service has been found to be faulty after a man in Clapham ordered a spade.
Thoughtful
You missed the false news out out all day by the MSM that the illegal immigrant died after falling from the aircraft – when in fact he was killed when he hit West London .
( apparently he might have been an “airport worker “ but no news on whether there is one missing – or not ) .
50 years ago today Brian Jones, co founder of the Rolling Stones, died, and what do we have ? a couple of 30 odd year olds telling us how great he was.
What IS it with having a young talking head on when anyone like an icon dies ? they weren’t even born to REMEMBER how great they were.
The same with a documentary recently on the great Hollywood dancer and choreographer Bob Fosse who died in 1987. So who did they get to talk about him ? Some half wit pop star Will Young, and another fame chasing has been pop star Louise Redknapp ! What the f…k do they know ? Clearly its for cheapness, but I’d rather listen to one seasoned pensioner who can talk articulately because they know and remember, than some kid who knows bugger all and spouts clichés.
Two deaths by stabbing in the capital today . That may become the new normal . I wonder what London MPs are doing to fill the void left by a hapless mayor …
It should read: Christopher John Penrice Booker, died on the 3rd July 2019….he was a columnist for the Telegraph….Booker voted for British Independence, but died before it was delivered. He also did not believe that carbon dioxide caused Climate Change, but died before proof that carbon dioxide warming was false, was delivered. (see below)
Svante Arrhenius produced the most damaging and expensive mistake in the history of science. His carbon-dioxide Global warming formula DOES NOT WORK on planets with carbon-dioxide atmospheres. Ned Nikolov & Karl Zeller produced the formula that WORKS for both the carbon dioxide atmospheres of Venus and Mars, proving that the atmospheric mass/gravity/pressure Greenhouse effect of James Clerk Maxwell, found in 1888, is correct. Gravity pulling molecules downward producing the heat gradient. Even a simpler mass/gravity/pressure formula using three factors has been around since the 19th Century. The Ideal Gas Law has been found to work for the carbon dioxide atmosphere of Venus. See below.

Did anyone catch the bbc documentary about Anna Cambell?
A british female who fought against ISIS on the side of the Kurds and died for the cause.
Sounds like a worthy cause to give your life for? A bit like the brave Englishmen who gave their life during the Spanish civil war fighting fascists. (proper fascists, not honest working class people who are now deemed nazis).
Anyway, less than ten minutes in her father says ‘she was influenced by far left activists at Sheffield university and was an active member of antifa.
Will the bbc now investigate left wing activity at Sheffield University?
Indeed all our Universities need to be held accountable for the hate.
She was also linked to a certain Kurdis (sic) centre in London which is known for sending fighters to Syria.
I’m all for defeating ISIS but are the ‘world class’ bbc going to investigate far left activity at our universities?
These are places of debate not places of indoctration.
Yes, I did see it. She struck me as an insufferable brat too consumed by the utter certainty she was right to ever question it or look beyond that and consider the consequences of her actions. I’m sorry, but I had no sympathy.
All these people who have watched and enjoyed a load of wimmin with pulled back ponytails and Beckham style headbands (as well as hardly looking their best) playing football, can they name any of the England team I wonder ? For that matter I admit the only female cricketer I can name is Rachel Heyhoe Flint who died a couple of years ago, but as for the present team, haven’t a clue.
Have these lady footballers had an real injuries yet ? like broken legs/ankles/footbones like most of the chaps have ? a realisation of this could soon end the potential interest by little school girls to play the game.
I know I’m being a sexist pig, I know my male gaze is reducing women to objects of my heterosexual desire, I know that comparisons are odious and that ugly lesbian footballers who look like men are equally valuable as human beings, but – phwoar! – that Jackie Groenen who plays for the Netherlands is a beautiful woman.
Divide those salaries by ten and they would still be overpaid and for each of them there are ten people who would do it for that money but would be ten times better.
One of the leading stories on the World Service is about black hair styles in Australia – someone might not like them or something. Lord help us.
How is there no adult in the room saying this is just not acceptable? Amongst their army of vastly overpaid managers nobody thinks maybe someone having a hair cut is not a story worth reporting on? What on Earth are they all doing for their money?
How little ‘oppression’ must there be that they have to go to the other side of the globe to get a pathetic non-story like this?
Personally a dignified approach to the role of Mayor, but wearing a baseball cap and tshirt.
The beeb felt the need to mention that he had band Pres.Trump from Sheffield.
Also what he is wearing, its understandable that even the eu parliament threw him out (or asked him to leave as the beeb put it)
Tommy Robinson is in court again today accused of a crime he did not commit.
Not a peep from the BBC.
Are they reporting on the ongoing court case where one Carl Beech aka “Nick” is alleging that he was raped over a bath by Jimmy Saville whilst he held his head under the water? Also alleges he was abused by Edward Heath, Harvey Proctor and Lord Bramall and threatened by the former head of MI5, Sir Michael Hanley, to “keep his mouth shut and do as was told or he would disappear and no one would care”.
The BBC are usually keen on paedophile stories involving white men.
What’s on at the Old Bailey, July 4 – Old Bailey Insight & Legal London @RealDannyTommo@ezralevant out of 14 court hearings today at the Old Bailey, 13 are reference to murder and 1 for being accused of filming out side a court. #TommyRobinson
Mishall to Jeremy Hunt – ‘is fox hunting cruel ?” – x3 . He avoids the question instead he should have said “I don’t know – why don’t you ask a Fox you divot “
Very sorry to hear about the death of Christopher Booker.
Brexit owes a great deal to this man who pioneered the exposure of the EU tyranny and lies before it was even called the EU.
RIP.
How are the BBC reacting to the fact that their beloved Labour Party is on 18% and in 4th place in the latest opinion poll? Probably trying to ignore it I would guess.
“Need a hand?”
“Err….. Yes please”
“Then CHECK YOUR PRIViLIDGE YOU WHITE RACIST CNUT !!”
She then walks off practising gangsigns after throwing a milkshake over the car owner stabbing him and stealing his wallet in the confusion to a Stormzy soundtrack…
I’m sure there is a conspiracy to wind us all up.
McCain only want to sell chips to black people?
Lidl sell only want to sell to “British” black people?
Emirates only want to do flights for black/mixed race families?
KFC only want to sell to black people?
Amazon only want to deliver to black people?
However, only middle aged white couples go on cruises. That’s not “cool”.
For a ‘multicultural’ tv commercial, there seems strong evidence to suggest that there appears to be only one particular ethnic group featured.
Am I being over sensitive to say that I feel as if I am overlooked and dare I say, being replaced?
By the way, here is a report from the BBC in Birmingham about a driver from the demographic group that the AA is appealing to. He was caught by the boys in blue driving around Birmingham in a car with no insurance and no……tyre.
Somehow I doubt that he has driver breakdown cover of any sort, never mind from the AA
It’s a racial thing. Tyres are black and get worn down by constant contact with hard and unfeeling environment. Best do without such symbols of oppression.
Quite possible RD. I have been a fan of Red Dwarf since the first episode but this commercial ticked all the diversity boxes; not only was the AA employee a woman, she was black. Now if this was a one off I’d probably agree with you. But look at the commercials that flood into our homes every day and a pattern can be detected; male partners are black, female partners are white and there are lots of mixed race children, regardless of the product or service being promoted. Look at any BBC or CBBC trailer and it looks like their target audiences are viewers who live in Brazilian favelas. BAME communities are said to make up around twelve percent of the population but you wouldn’t think so from the television or radio offerings.
I think what disturbs me most is the way the BBC is rewriting history in it’s schools television output by depicting British historical or cultural icons as ‘people of colour’ (horrible phrase). I really don’t think I am exaggerating.
So next time when a stabbing occurs in London or Birmingham and the BBC or tabloid newspaper asks what can be done, have a look at the pigmentation of the model’s hand holding the knife and ask does this photograph give a truthful representation of who is actually committing these murderous acts of violence?
Being half-awake earlier I happened to catch a bit of ‘Today’ . Thought for the Day was the usual few minutes of a cleric droning on- this time something about America. I expect the final message was going to be ‘Trump bad’ but I started drifting off again..
Then a few minutes later there’s Justin ‘interviewing’ one of Boris’s employees. Interviewing in the sense of just talking over and never letting them finish a sentence.
At that point I realised I was listening to the radio by mistake and reached for the off-switch.
I find it mystifying that anyone who isn’t Labour, Green or an EU fanatic would agree to be interviewed by the BBC. Unless there is a preponderance of masochism in those of a Tory disposition.
imay — yesterday Emma Barnett on R5 did the same with Mims Davies and then Kwasi Kwarteng. Compare / contrast her treatment of Chuka Umunna who wafted in to the studio, exchanged a few chummy in-jokes with Emma and then was left to expound at leisure on the topics of his choice with barely an interruption.
Reminiscent of Basil Fawlty toadying up to Lord Melbury… “You’re either crawling all over them licking their boots, or spitting poison at them like some benzedrine puff adder…”
Just arrived at the Old Bailey. I will be live tweeting #TommyRobinson’s trial— as long as @BBCNews doesn’t get their panties in a bunch and stop the trial again #July4th

It’s not right, James. I have seen many mermaids over the years round our coasts. They used to be exclusively white. But recently I have noticed a lot of black and brown mermaids who have migrated here from tropical waters. We should be reflecting this new reality when we depict them in our books and movies.
As for mermaids, I always thought the real ones were Manatees and Sea Cows, and for some reason, whenever I see one of those (sporting around in the Severn Channel, as they do, I swear) they always make me think of Diane Abbott.
They just don’t see that it really pees people who are not racists off…..if you live in London this picture may well be true but I went to Suffolk coast and got culture shock – 99% white….then went to Chatsworh on a lovely sunny day and 95% white – 2 Asian familes, one African and some Chinese..it reflected the real make up of the country….
You have to wonder who the adverts are aimed at…because the biggest customer base is not non white
I know I sound like a racist by liberal terms but actually I would just lie the BBC and liberals to respect me as much as they seem to the minorities
This must tear at State Broadcaster for in one hand gamblers have been protected whilst on the other innocent employees not enjoying stratospheric SB salaries are dumped out of work.
That’s twice today that our uniquly funded broadcaster has found itself in a dilemma. The first was Carlisle airport reopening; this being celebrated whilst telling us in the same breath that we ‘all’ had to take less flights.
“”I see that #TommyRobinson is back in Court today. I wish our establishment pursued paedo rape gangs with the same enthusiasm that they pursue those who expose them, don’t you?””
I fear that the Home Secretary does not see the rape gangs as a problem. Perhaps that is due to respect for hs culture. But objections to the rape gangs he and the cabinet see as a far right threat.
I am looking forward to comments on the trial by the tame conservatives who appear from time to time on the BBC and LBC
An excellent speech by Ann Widdecombe in the eu parliament , she really gave it to them. I wonder what sort of coverage this will get from our most trusted broadcaster.
I thought perhaps they would also talk about the attendance at the match, But no, it’s all about the BBC patting itself on its collective back over the great numbers of viewers it had and the popularity of women’s football.
However, here’s something really unusual for a BBC report:
But people are divided about whether World Cup fever really has gripped the country.
Juliet Coutts, another UCL student, is not convinced. “It feels like it’s been whipped up by the media,” she says.
The BBC publishing a point of view it doesn’t agree with without any spin on it? Miracles will never cease.
The reporter must have been delighted to find an American in the crowd who doesn’t like USA men’s soccer, but was glued to this USA-UK women’s game:
He’s got caught up in the fans’ passion for the game. Back home, he’s more into American football and basketball – and definitely not men’s football.
Right, yet another dig at the men’s game.
I read a few BBC reports but could not find any BBC bias against the women’s team, just enthusiasm at their prospects and sympathy over their defeat. This is in such stark contrast to the bias against the men’s side, with the BBC mostly showing snobbish indifference to it or active support for England’s opponents.
Yet another reason to abolish the license tax.
Having said all that, apparently there were 53 000 spectators at the game. That’s not too shabby. And the game itself was not too shabby, with the players playing their hearts out. Also, unlike the men, the women don’t roll on the ground pretending agony after a foul.
I’ve seen men’s World Cup games that were unwatchable, especially world champions Spain – who have made an art form out of the defensive, back and forth passing game that puts ball possession ahead of anything else and seems to rely on lulling their opponents into a false sense of security, suddenly dashing forward to score and then retreating to circle the wagons again. They play football like it’s a bloody bullfight.
Park the bus is a defensive strategy where the goalmouth is packed with bodies (to have the same effect as if the team bus was parked blocking the goal).

Beltane, doesn’t have Dan Maskell these days though, does it?
“Oh, I say!”
Dan Maskell, Henry Longhurst, Peter Alliss, Raymond Baxter & son Peter, ‘EW’ Swanton, John Arlott, Brian Johnston, Henry Blofeld, Bill Frindall, Jack Fingleton, Alan McGilvray, Tony Cozier, Ted Lowe, Bill McLaren, Ian Robertson, Eddie Waring ….
….. funny thing, they all seem to have been men.

Now, that one who helps flog the crisps … . . . . . .

Hear, hear, Scrobie.
I have to apologise for omitting Kenneth Wolstenholme from my original list and probably Mottie as well.
I did agonise over whether to include Murray Walker but using the ‘Alliss Measure’ (see above post) I have to think I probably got it about right.
A summarisers list, as compensation for Walker’s absence however, would have to include James Hunt, as well as Vic Marks and Tuffers for cricket.

Meanwhile the IOC (International Olympic Committee) are to add 4 new “sports” to the next fest in Tokyo.
Hold your breath….
They are: Breakdancing, Skateboarding, Surfing, and Sport Climbing.
I was very disappointed and rather hoping for egg and spoon racing, sack racing, tidying bedrooms and being under 12 to be serious contenders.
Maybe next time they might consider moped pavement riding, milkshake throwing or having sex on reality TV at least!
Seems like if you form a committee, especially an International one you will get a large percentage of fruitcakes jump right in.

Well Fedup from the website

If this is true; and I have no reason to believe that its not true; then no wonder the BBC always seem to get what she asks the MPs for its regular increase of the licence fee.
Good grief!

Have these lady footballers had an real injuries yet ? like broken legs/ankles/footbones like most of the chaps have ? a realisation of this could soon end the potential interest by little school girls to play the game.

Also alleges he was abused by Edward Heath, Harvey Proctor and Lord Bramall and threatened by the former head of MI5, Sir Michael Hanley, to “keep his mouth shut and do as was told or he would disappear and no one would care”.

Two of them are long-standing characters from Red Dwarf, around which the advert is based. You’re maybe reading too much into this.

They have swallowed the Common Purpose propaganda hook, line, sinker and even the rod.
They really hate us.

Our European war dead would have voted Brexit, Grexit, Deuxit, Frexit, Swexit …

Guess what the main topic of discussion on Radio Five Live is this morning? It’s something of crucial important to the future of the country.
You’ve guessed it: it’s whether or not it’s right that mermaids are usually portrayed as being white people.

It’s not right, James. I have seen many mermaids over the years round our coasts. They used to be exclusively white. But recently I have noticed a lot of black and brown mermaids who have migrated here from tropical waters. We should be reflecting this new reality when we depict them in our books and movies.

Them and the unicorns. The latter more and more have rainbow manes.

Ah yes, unicorns, no longer male. pale and stale… all thanks to the Brony movement:

As for mermaids, I always thought the real ones were Manatees and Sea Cows, and for some reason, whenever I see one of those (sporting around in the Severn Channel, as they do, I swear) they always make me think of Diane Abbott.

“its law they have to show a multi ethnic load of kids”
I wonder if this applies in Birmingham?

“…they have to show a multi ethnic load of kids.”
Difficult to do that in the over-enriched areas of our cities.

If he is an ‘ex-Whitehall boss’ how does he know what is going on inside government?
Shouldn’t he be doing his civic duty and reporting those clearly in breach of the Official Secrets Act?
Unless he’s fibbing of course.

From David Vance:

Monty,
Thanks for posting info about that superlative speech.
Here’s the eminent Widdecombe
“Comments have been disabled for this video’ – I suppose by the YouTube censors, though I think the person who posts the video can disable comments.
I wonder why.

Here’s the BBC at its narcissistic best:
Women’s World Cup: England v USA attracts highest peak audience of 2019
I thought perhaps they would also talk about the attendance at the match, But no, it’s all about the BBC patting itself on its collective back over the great numbers of viewers it had and the popularity of women’s football.
However, here’s something really unusual for a BBC report:
‘The women are smashing it!’ England fans at home react to World Cup drama

“retreating to circle the wagons again”
Not an expert on the modern game though “park the bus” springs to mind.

Not Gwent,
Dunno what “park the bus” refers to.

Park the bus is a defensive strategy where the goalmouth is packed with bodies (to have the same effect as if the team bus was parked blocking the goal).
At least that’s my understanding of the term.
