If you watch university challenge tonight see if this happens.
They want to make it more pc and therefore have to find questions about wimmin.
In history, I reckon 85+% of things were done/discovered/caused and so on, by men so it’s difficult to find wimmin who people have heard of.
Apart from Agatha Christie or Marie Curie and some others there’s not so many.
Maybe Clara Schumann for music and it’s usually Tracey Emin for art.
So then, what happens.
They start the question with something like Beryl Minx was the architect who designed Cleese Towers in 1984, which famous guest used his hand to score a goal for Argentina in the football World Cup finals.
They then ask other questions about famous men who stayed there.
There just aren’t enough known famous wimmin to find questions about so they use the unknown wimmin to start the question and thus tick one of their boxes.
Just watch it, I bet it happens.

I have a friend who works as a practice manager at an NHS GPs. She tells me that they are having to register illegal immigrants in order for the NHS to provide treatment to them.
We are around a decade into a Tory government and they are still allow the NHS to be openly used by people who are not eligible for treatment and for known illegals which they are failing to deport.
Under the short mismanagement of Boris the Bottler, forced deportations have fallen by an astonishing 25% – and there weren’t all that many to begin with !

I see Boris the Bottler has said he isn’t going to end the TV tax in our lifetime.
You have to read between the lines to understand what is being said, and when the bottler says in the long run he is making a reference to a historical political statement.
“In the long run we are all dead” John Maynard Keynes
What the Bottler is saying here in coded language to anyone who understands is that he is never going to challenge the unique way the BBC is funded.
If he’d said in the short term, or even the medium term it might have meant something different. I’m sorry to dash the hopes of those who thought his duplicitous language meant something else.

Meanwhile the BBC then show Uncle Jezza, all smiles, speaking to thousands of acolytes in Bristol.
Cue lots of head-shaking from Fiona Bruce and Laura Kuntsberg.
Then its off to Crewe, a marginal constituency. The BBC ‘talk to a couple who are unsure’.
Guess what? Healthcare and Education are the priorities mentioned first. Quel surprise. How very impartial.
Selective, craftily edited, bias bias all the way.

Stew, the smart move is to take the phone, look at the photo, then use the phone to get hold of the person responsible for running the hospital and find out what was going on, all at the reporter’s expense.
Not easy to think on your feet when tired, still out campaigning near the Election date, but if you want to be in that kitchen at No.10 you have to be able to stand the heat and fan the flames back at the opposition.
This all stems from yet another bungled manifesto, where the Tories are trying to outbribe the Labour Party.
Far, far, better would have been to limit the extra spending on just £350 million per week for the NHS. That would have been a screaming headline all GE19 campaign long.

Surely there would have been scientists all over this volcano measuring pressure , temperature etc ….these seismologists have all the best stuff satalitte links looking at expansion etc and then boom off it goes and erupts no warning nothing. I think it just shows how much we in our world of control underestimate the power of nature. We are so cock sure that we have a handle on everything that we are the root cause and the answer. This eruptions shows how little control we have over nature and that nature will always win somthing the climate loonies should remember.

Both the BBC news and newspaper review allow presenters to repeat pro far left Labour propaganda of pictures alleging an incompetent International health service .
And a snippet of Tourette’s Robinson asking a voter “would ever vote for the Tories ?”. The “ever “ does the bias because it encourages the reply “no”.
I hope the ‘threat’ to end the BBC TV Tax has traction but fear the chat will disappear if a better story comes along or if the Conservatives win an outright majority – which the bookies are reflecting is most likely to happen .

Awake at 5.30 so it is inescapable today. The BBC R4 News and the Toady Prog are all over the boy-asleep-on-hospital-floor photo.
I get the distinct feeling that either Bojo wants to be a comedian on telly (and is miffed ‘they’ won’t let him so hints at ending TV Licence as act of revenge) or like Theresa May in 2017, possibly, he wants to throw this General Election, get Labour in power to take on (and mess up) Brexit and to also put the taxpayers money where Labour’s mouth is, ruin the economy, and make a comeback cleaning up the resulting mess.
I laugh now at the the thought that Labour were even more terrified at the thought of Dominic Cummings as Bojo’s Chief of Staff than they were over Bojo in No.10 & his getting a General Election.
Cummings ain’t so clever at managing The Clown after all.

Didn’t hear it. But the problem in general is that journalists south of the border do not know enough about the SNP or devolved government generally to take them to task. They therefore get away with waffling in a way Westminster politicians do not.
North of the border, we just don’t seem to have many journalists prepared to risk being cut out of the loop by seriously challenging them.

The gleaming new, old-stone facia-ed multipurpose health centre just outside Fort William (easily accessible by car and with a large car park- no pot holes) and its willingness to treat visitors with minimal bureaucracy) suggests to me that there is plenty of money available in Scotland.
How the state sector spends it, how wisely, and with what rigorous control, is of course a completely different matter.
Maybe what the NHS needs is not more doctors and nurses, but accountants and auditors, not to mention operating theatre administrators (see a previous post).

Sluff: “Maybe what the NHS needs is not more doctors and nurses, but accountants and auditors, not to mention operating theatre administrators (see a previous post).”
I think the NHS and Departments for Health in all the devolved responsibilities have more than enough ‘suits’. I’d get rid of at least 50% of them (more in England) and have just one person, responsible for managing the devolved Health Care with a constantly growing budget. Any failures would be down to them and they could then be sacked by the relevant Secretary of State for Health.
Government responsibility for health would be managing the nation as a whole, keeping it happy and prosperous, and the NHS thus, as well as adequately funded.

Hugh Grant is allowed to lecture us thanks to Nick Robinson being totally star struck and unable to ask any probing questions.
Hugh Grant was allowed to say that “we were told a lot of lies” during the EU Referendum Campaign. He was allowed to get in his pitch for tactical voting. As for “that photo”, it first appeared in the Labour rag “The Mirror”, which suggests that Boris has been the victim of a very careful set-up, in which the Mirror, the BBC, and journos from other papers had a carefully-worked out part to play.
Hugh Grant has also been on, appealing that voters should vote strategically/ tactically to vote ‘anti-Boris’
wherever they can.
Currently, Nick is celebrating the impeachment of Trump.

Of course, the “Jack” photo is worth its weight in gold for Labour/the Bbc, as it links in to the Labour theme of the Nhs and the beeb theme of ‘trust’ in Boris and thus plays a more significant role than would at first appear, in marrying up these themes.
Radio4 have even raised the issue of The Rohynga again, this morning, with Suu Kyi having to defend her country in an international tribunal. A remote African state has been put up to accuse her. (Most African states regrettably do not bear closer examination, from your Nigerias to your Somalias.) So remote is good.
Still not a word, not one, about another racist campaign, in which one group has been especially targeted: the Whites of South Africa.
As alleged with the Rohynga, rape plays a special role in this campaign of violence and intimidation, as does brutal torture and a special campaign to target women and the elderly.
It has been taken to the international Court, but our heroic Beeb and other media will maintain complete radio silence on this one. Wrong victims. And the perpetrators are sacrosanct.
South Africa Today 1344 also reports the first killing by a road having been blocked with a wall of stones, erected to injure or kill, and then rob, the victim.

In 2017 I predicted from the start of the campaign that the Conservatives were wrong to call an election as it would be a lot closer than the polls suggested at the start. I was convinced they would end up with a lot fewer seats than they started with although I didn’t think it would be a hung parliament.
I voted Tory because I wanted to believe May’s lies about implementing Brexit and no deal is better than etc. etc. Despite voting UKIP in the previous two elections.
I do believe the polls are being manipulated again, like last time, to engineer a defeat for the Conservatives. Despite my misgivings I will be voting Consrvative again as any other result will kill off all forms of Brexit for good. Forever!!
I hope that all people who support Brexit will hold their noses and vote for their Tory candidate because that is the only result that, at least, keeps Brexit on the table.

Demon- If anything, the Beeb has been far happier, this time around, to come out in explicit support of Labour. The mask of ‘impartiality’ has been dumped in the trash can.

Demon,
The CONservatives are counting on people like you to help them get BRINO done.

At least Brexit will still be on the table. Any other result will consign Brexit to the dustbin of history. Mark me, I would rather have the Brexit Party holding the balance of power in a coalition with the Conservatives but it won’t happen. Johnson needs an overall majority or we will never get the chance of Brexit ever again. No hyperbole, just fact. No other country will then try to leave as they will see it’s impossible. If you want Brexit then hold your nose and vote Tory.
I’d rather have BRINO than never Brexit.

Lucy, I don’t follow your argument. Whilst not many here think Boris’s agreement is a true Brexit, the stark fact is that it’s the only one we’re going to get. If Boris doesn’t get a majority, Brexit is over, at least via the ballot box. Somewhere between 0 and 5 Brexit MPs simply isn’t going to do it.
I’m afraid we have to face reality. We get something and take things from there or we get nothing and go back to the start. There is no combination in this election that gets us everything.

There is no option but to vote Tory unless it does look like a Brexit Party candidate or an independent could take a Labour seat. We might need it if we hit hung parliament territory.
Gina Miller now has polls coming out from ComRes who themselves are known to favour Labour. No change for Labour but one point extra for the Tories. I expect Gina to spam out polls every few hours until she gets the result she wants

Because there are only two boxes on your ballot paper?

And now it’s time for a quick game of ‘spot the hypocrites’..
The BBC are consistently force-feeding us about all things to do with global warming and climate change. We can all agree that.
So, where are they staging next Sunday’s Sports Personality of the Year?
Why, Aberdeen of course.
Could this be because the great and the good fancy the 12 hour round trip by train from Manchester? Or the 15 hour round trip from London? Longer by car. Much longer by bus. Even longer by sailing craft.
Or could the fact that Aberdeen airport has been recently extended and upgraded, and there are regular flights there from Heathrow and Manchester for the great and the good taking little more than an hour be anything to do with it?
Do as I say, not as I do.

To hear Sopel’s appraisal of the impeachment proceedings on Toady at 0700 was to believe that there is no response whatever from the Republican side. The stark bias of our BlackAsian Broadcasting Corp. is no more extreme than in Sopel’s reporting of the impeachment proceedings. Listening to Sopel, you could easily believe that Donald J Trump is doomed on this slow, inevitable journey to impeachment. This dishonest form of reporting is targeting, who? Who benefits from the lies and distortions of the BABC so-called, ‘News’? Who is it meant to assist? For sure anybody visiting any of the internet US channels following the issue would quickly realise what the BABC was up too.
Lets remind ourselves what legal ‘Dishonesty’ in the UK is defined ( R v Ghosh (1982) in a two-part test:
Had the defendant been dishonest by the ordinary standards of reasonable and honest people?; If, ‘yes’,
Did the defendant realise that he/she had been dishonest by those subjective standards? If ‘yes’ again, the defendant had been dishonest.
On both counts the BABC reporting is dishonest, legally.

Most British people appear to agree on a wide variety of subjects – from believing in the NHS, to supporting equal pay.
