President Donald Trump says more cases of coronavirus are “likely” but urges people not to panic as man dies in Washington state.

    Looks like an Americastaspertion special.

Certainly it wound up the TDS faithful.

What does the bbc want? For people to panic? Is Greta Editor in Chief?

Also I understand that on a per capita basis the US is so far managing better than many.

    We knew this was inevitable:

‘A 23-year-old woman who is taking legal action against an NHS gender clinic says she should have been challenged more by medical staff over her decision to transition to a male as a teenager.’

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51676020

“I was allowed to run with this idea that I had, almost like a fantasy, as a teenager…. and it has affected me in the long run as an adult.”

Any chance the BBC will think to moderate its transgender propaganda aimed at children? I guess not until they get sued.

(I see vlad got to post about this one before me)

‘Wettest February on record’ scream the BBC

Forgive me if I’m sceptical about this all too convenient claim.

For one thing this year was a leap year giving February over 3.5% more days of potential rain than 75% of previous Februarys (since records began – as they like to say without telling us when that was).

Can we be sure the Met have adjusted for that?

Priti may, or may not, have been the appropriate minister for the complex and challenging Home Office post (I was a little surprised when she was appointed), but the Permanent Secretary struck me as pompous and self-righteous in the extreme.
I had to think back to the basics of politics: the elected and then appointed ministers determine policy and are IN CHARGE, while the civil service is there to IMPLEMENT GOVERNMENT POLICY. That is how our democracy works. The civil servants remain in the background. If they have grievances, there will be procedures to follow; rushing to press and staging public press conferences, won’t be one of those. Strictly unseen, and in the background is the location for the civil servants.
My instinctive feeling is that that is where they should stay.
Of course, another instinctive feeling overtakes one when observing this little show: it’s going to be another wonderful opportunity for certain people for whom a new avenue has opened up to GET AT BORIS. In fact, that is what it may all be about, since that fellow Cummings shows no sign of leaving gracefully…

fnw, I’d have prefered Javid to keep his Home job, perhaps with Patel as #2 and to have Jacob Rees-Mogg as Chancellor. I’d have given Health back to Jeremy Hunt if he’d been willing to take it on again.

You make a good point about the traditional – and correct – operation of State. I was with a friend, a retired Civil Servant, just before the election and before Cummings had become the Lefty bête noire that he has since 12 December. I voiced quite firmly the opinion that our Civil Service was out of control.

My friend did not raise any objection.

Firstly, I’ve got a confession to make; I’ve got a huge crush on Priti Patel. I think she’s seriously hot!
Secondly, I’ve had run ins with bosses down the years. Can you believe it some have thought I’m a lazy sod….yes, I know, ridiculous! Some of my old bosses have been real brutes. Industrial language was common place. None of them have been anything like as pretty as Priti.
None of us really know what happened behind closed doors in the Home Office. I’m guessing Priti is quite strident and bossy and has perhaps, on occasion, used less than flattering terms. She’s got a tough job and she’s trying to get a department to do something it doesn’t want to. The HO is notorious.
So, I don’t doubt she’s used a bit of “stick” now and again. Who wouldn’t?
Speaking personally, if I’d been ordered into her inner office and given a severe tongue lashing by the diminutive, but domineering home Secretary, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have handed in my notice.
I think I’d have stuck it out.

Hope I’ve got away with that…

Even the German press has played down that incident, unlike Hanau, where a very tenuous ‘right wing’ link could be made, so a HUGE fuss was made by all.
Of greater interest is that Sultan Erdogan has unleashed the ‘migrants’ on Greece, despite the useless Merkel having paid him 6 billion Euro not to do so. He has spent years threatening to do so, and has finally decided the time has come to flood Europe with 4 million migrants. After all, he opened a ‘second front’ in Syria, where some of his troops deservedly got killed. This presented a wonderful pretext to open up the Greek ‘migrant’ front.
Just what he was looking for to renege on his agreement with the talentless pushover, Angela Merkel.
It is easy to read both Merkel and Erdogan like a book. Really, all I am not certain of is whether Merkel was QUITE HAPPY to have another mass migrant invasion, having known all along Erdogan would go back on his promise. The 6 million was only taxpayer money, after all.!

      • fakenewswatcher says:

I should add that beeb’s Orla Guerin interviewed one ‘migrant’ in the general chaos on the Greek border, and he said his destination was LONDON.
Orla had made certain that the phrases ‘poor babe’ and ‘tear gas’ were directly linked in her report, which would have appealed to Comrade Merkel. There was much talk of helpless civilians having had to sleep in the freezing cold, etc etc.
The migrants muttered something about being entitled to ‘a better life’ in the Orla ‘interview’, and national borders and immigration procedures were obviously of little interest to them. Since Comrade Merkel has been telling them exactly that, while PRETENDING to defend EU borders by bribing Erdogan, we should not be surprised at the assault on Greek borders.
A little Communist/Islamic double dealing from team Merkel/Erdogan that has now paid off handsomely? Or would that be stretching things a little too far?
For Madam and Sultan, it seems it’s all come together?

Further evidence of the World turning upside down: Irrespective of views on Assad, Erdogan has demanded that the Syrians stop attacking his troops while they invade the former’s country. Hopefully the Russians will engage the Turks (with their missiles purchased from Russia). That would be a spectacle. I know where my bet would go.

This time the BBC can’t help but give us an Eiffel of what’s happening in Paris

‘A large fire has broken out at a major Paris train station, with police reporting “unacceptable incidents” ahead of a nearby concert.’

‘The Gare de Lyon station was evacuated by police, who say the fire is now under control. Footage showed scooters and other vehicles alight.’

‘Earlier, political opponents of the DR Congo government had called for musician Fally Ipupa’s performance to be disrupted.’

[So what we are hearing here is more of a rumble from the jungle than a Parisian serenade]

‘Protests at the event had been banned, local media report.’

Maybe if the gard du nord had been hit – which for BBC drones must be a second home after Brussels – the first lounge must be a second home .

As an aside – I’ve just finished the section in Tim Shipmans account of the brexit referendum campaign – with reference to coverage by the BBC

I must be living in a parallel universe because the overall claim is that the BBC was balanced .

Perhaps Mr Shipman didn’t watch the BBC during the time but if he’d have gone to the archives of this site I think he’d have got a fairer account of the use of project fear et al .
It’s not quite history ( yet ) but I get the feeling the Brexit referendum period is going to be written by the ‘ losers’ presumably for the time they try to rejoin . Hopefully – like the BBC – the EU won’t be in its current form – or hopefully in any ‘ form ‘ at all .

BRISSELS – I disagree when you say ‘fair enough’, although Stormzy would also make me choke on my cuppa.
I refer you to my earlier entry on what has been happening to white farmers in SA since the ANC took over in 1994! Mass murder and torture on an epic scale, ignored by ‘Western’ liberal (?) media. Here is a good example of what REALLY happens, as the infrastructure of the nation collapses (it only took them 25 years to destroy what had been built up over 350).
Oh yes, there is a little covering gloss from the recent cricket tour, but -beneath the surface- what you call ‘fair enough’ is anything but. In SA you can see the truth and nothing but the truth, so we don’t need BBC reverse propaganda! Apparently ‘load shedding’ (a euphemism for no electricity) can now extend over more than twelve hours. Many streets have sewerage flowing through them. In fact, it has become dangerous to drink water in some towns, because of contamination with sewerage.
It is quite OK to dance about, even in parliament, explicitly calling for the killing of whites, and grabbing their land. (Because, of course, it is ‘black’ land – a complete distortion of history.) I know someone who is leaving the beautiful city of Cape Town for the States, because of what it has been become. We won’t even speak of crime capital of the world, Johannesburg.
I do wonder whether the average, long-suffering black person has benefitted at all from ‘black rule’, because a new black elite of ANC/EFF ‘cadres’ have been ‘deployed’ to grab the goodies (remember Mugabe’s ZANU ‘war veterans’ in Zimbabwe?) It is THEY who benefit.

      • BRISSLES says:

        F. Perhaps it was a bad use of words, but my ‘fair enough’ didn’t mean I agree with the concept, but that the drama was made at all.

With reference to the events in S.A I do remember that all too well, in fact, there was an image photographed at the time that has, and will, stay with me forever. A white farmer was slaughtered , and his body covered with a blue plastic tarpaulin. Curled up by his body was his little white and tan Jack Russell, who, despite all attempts, refused to leave his masters body.

        • fakenewswatcher says:

BRISSELS – Understood. Really, it was the thought of the beeb drama, which got me going. Sorry, if a bit carried away.
I am interested in SA, as it is the best example of what actually happens when a white government hands over a sophisticated modern state to a black (‘socialist’) government. I emphasize socialism, as a non-socialist black majority government may well have had the good sense not to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
It differs from, say, Zimbabwe, in that a large vibrant economy with large ‘first world’ cities was ‘handed over’ to black (again ‘socialist’) governance.
In fact, the people who took over and started looting on a grand scale were, unsurprisingly, the politicians. Incompetence and corruption appear to be hallmarks of the ANC ‘cadres’, who really needed to be nothing more than ANC cadres to take over top jobs.
The real majority, not being ANC ‘cadres’ haven’t -I suspect- got much of a look in.
As for the crime – well, that is another whole story of its own, and a very sad one indeed…
I don’t have to tell you who runs the police and the armed forces, I dare say.

Just listening to Fatty Lardell at 1300 R4. Wow! the BBC and their acolytes really have it in for Priti Patel don’t they? Massive whitewash ‘X’ marks the spot on her back. So, the order of the day is to dismiss objectivity and focus on hearsay and speculation all part of the daily attacks on the Government. Loads of interviews with past senior “hideously white” Civil Servants. Problem is, most of the Civil Service is made up with foreigners as has been apparent for some decades now. Me? I say, ‘Go for it Priti’ reformation of the CS is long overdue. A good clear out needed, as the PoTus says, “Drain the Swamp”.
By the way, the Government is telling the public that washing hands frequently is the answer to avoid Covid-19. Remember a earlier ‘bit of advice’ to the public? – go to the space under the stairs or under the kitchen table to avoid the Russian H Bombs? That’s consistency for you.

Fed – Good Thinking! I suspect from our massive, overstuffed H.o.Lords that elements of the Civil Service are equally overstaffed.
There then arises the question of whether all the staff are properly qualified, or whether we have succumbed to ‘affirmative action’ appointments, where only one thing counts, and it’s NOT competence to do the job.
Not that our HO Permanent Secretary was a good advertisement for the job, having found it necessary to call a press conference and air dirty linen in public, while -at the same time- attempting to overthrow the minister in charge.
He MUST have known that there is such a thing as a ‘Disciplinary and Grievance Procedure’ guide, since HE was in charge of it as the ‘line manager’ in that department. After that, there will have been other channels, dear boy. And going along the channels is (for better or worse) is how the Public Service is supposed to work!

His little attempt at a ‘mini-coup’ was certainly NOT the way to go, however unsatisfactory he found his Minister. I wonder, from his approach, whether he is a Blair appointment, since such a public display of insurrection can only have opened the door for Labour assaults! He will have known that. The beeb and the LKs of this world will be rubbing their hands in glee! I can see Chris Mason, John Pienaar, Shaun Ley and Norman Smith hard at work as well, to mention but a few…

For bojo – I think ‘events ‘ have put him in a ‘no win ‘ place led by events well beyond anyones’ control .

Fed, there are several things that HMG could – and should – do right now if they want contain the virus.

Firstly, they have to start acting rather than reacting – the incubation period means that the virus will always have a 14 day or so head start if you simply take action on the basis of what has happened. In order words, and with due apology to old westerns, it needs to be headed off at the pass.

Secondly, public health has to overrule patient confidentiality, particularly in cases where the chain of transmission can’t be identified. It would be much easier to trace contacts (and likely carriers) if details were given as to where each patient lives and works along with details of his or her movements over the last 10-14 days. People who may have been infected or who may have infected said patient would therefore be able to report to the NHS rather than waiting for public health staff to find them. Time saved = less people infected.

Thirdly, encourage employers to allow staff to work from home rather than travel to work.

Fourthly, prohibit large-scale public gatherings. Yes, its a draconian measure but it will cut the risk of mass infection.

As for cost implications, taking a hit now might well mean avoiding a bigger one slightly further down the line. It’s not rocket science.

As for the warmer weather that will be with us in a couple of months, there’s a reasonable chance that it will make it harder for the virus to be spread. Cut the infection rate to under 1:1 and the spread of the virus will engage reverse gear.

China is successfully combating the spread of the virus – even in Wuhan, where the rate of new cases is about 12% of its peak of a few weeks ago. IF our leaders and senior public health officials are even remotely competent then the western world can do likewise.

I think the Chinese figures are probably now in the right ballpark. The same can’t, alas, be said for those from Iran.

There are specific reasons why S. Korea has been so hard hit. I think they’ll get it under control but it’ll take a few weeks before the picture looks better.

Italy has taken some sensible measures, but it’s too soon to gauge their effectiveness.

The thing about this virus is that it can’t spread of it’s own volition – it needs us to spread it. If we take the right measures then we can stop it or at least slow its spread till the cavalry arrives. The outcome is literally in our hands.

I think the advert Dom Cummings put out asking for ‘fresh heads ‘ really hurt the top of the Civil Service . If you’ve listened to reps of “the First Division” club over the years the sense of entitlement in the face of repeated failures of contracting and major projects makes for incredulity –

However the tendency with which civil servants ‘retire ‘ from their job and then work for the opposition is institutional – eg Tax inspectors going off to work for accountancy firms – which has always been a joke within the tax world …

Seems the Greeks aren’t as keen to have their country overrun by “migrants” on their way to Germany (or ‘London’, as one professed)as Merkel and Erdogan had hoped.
They had the cheek to position police at their border, put up barbed wire, and employ tear gas, where necessary.
The ‘international community’ won’t be pleased.
I have a feeling the Greeks may have to bring in their army. For one thing, this is another (cleverly disguised and long-planned) Turkish invasion; for another, dozens of outraged NGOs and media outlets will be yelling for ‘migrants’ to be let in.
Meanwhile, Orla will -I’m sure- keep us fully briefed on Greek police’ brutality’.

One thing that surprises me (NOT) is how the super-rich Gulf states, Islamic to boot, show no enthusiasm for taking any of these largely Islamic ‘refugees’, and how these refugees want to go to Europe and ‘London’, instead of to their religious nearest and dearest. The super-rich Gulf states could easily afford to accommodate this ‘migrant’ flow, as they don’t know what to do with all their money as it is!
      So, what’s really going on?

It has nothing to do with persecuted refugees but has everything to do with the eventual Islamization of Europe and with a lot of help from our in house traitors, it is on course to succeed. Mr Gaddafi made no secret of this. We are being invaded and we’ll all come to very much regret it.

Don’t be daft, this is the BBC! Veganism! A ‘lady of colour’ gives people the ‘facts’ then lets people decide.

Reminds me of the Dave Allen joke about the argument between a priest and a minister: “You worship God in your way and I will worship Him in His”.

Once the BBC has an ‘impartial’ message to push they work it in everywhere.

Stew – I still like the reasoning which goes

‘ if the BBC is that great – and has a worldwide reputation – subscription will open up huge amounts of income from all those snowflakes eager for its ‘ product ‘
The ‘loss’ of income from the end of compulsory funding will easily be exceeded by all that cash coming in from people choosing to take BBC product . So the amount and quality of programmes can be increased as a result .

Now this isn’t my position because I see the foundations of the BBC built on snowflake propaganda which will melt in the heat of open completion from those competitors which are not tied down by committees of social justice box tickers more interested in getting their ‘cause’ on screen than providing decent watchable output .

Mr Aitkin described much of the stuff we mention here every day .

What I was waiting for was some kind of description of any way the BBC could roll back the propaganda onslaught with which the tax payer is subjected all the time every day .

The new Lord Hall will just be a clone so the remedy will be external surgery which hopefully anaesthetises the BBC so that it dies on the table .

I listened mostly at double speed
Around minute 15 he talks about Laura K doing an election interview with Boris with contempt
and gave the office of PM no respect

a few minutes later he describes how a BBC drama exec called him to ask he’d talk to her writers about their groupthink.
That although the BBC preaches DIVERSITY her writers all wrote with the same worldview
.. thus every character who is a Tory ends up portrayed as being a bastard

He talked about the way R4Today sets up Tory politician interviews
which means first the minister speaks and then the BBC correspondent is brought on to INTERPRET what the minister meant ..and acts as a defacto lefty pundit, with a FINAL say
cos the minister is not allowed to a say after the beeboid has done the interpretation.

      More on Australian free speech
..When women explode and do violence against their own family
people often ask “was she driven too far ?”
So when an Australian father killed his family
a police officer asked that question.
An Australian men’s rights campaigner tweeted his point in quotation marks
and said we shouldn’t judge without full evidence.

Trouble is the wokemob were already looking for something to beat her with cos she’d just won an MBE for her lifetime of equality work and she is not a lefty. So they stoked up a campaign to strip her of her honour cos of that ONE tweet.
The Senate was having an a secret debate about it, which was only exposed when the Australian equivalent of UKIP stood up and forced a vote.
And they were the only ones who voted that her tweet was free speech.
Today a SkyNewsAust presenter dared to condemn the entire rest of the Senate

BBC News channel at 17:35 showed the Syrian/Afghan migrants being tear gassed by Greek police on the Greece/Turkey border. BBC reporter managed to find a father with a 1 year old where he claims “they were firing tear gas at us. My child could have died”.

The interesting bit was near the end where the video showed muliple migrants taking a run up and starting to throw things but the editing cut out the actual throwing. The final few seconds showed stones and bricks on the ground that had been thrown at the police.

Typical BBC showing the victim side of the migrants whilst editing out their violence side.

Thick? Just a bit. Perhaps a warning to Brits to keep well away from our own Greens, who are fortunately not as powerful as those in Germany at this stage?
Another non-surprise: Merkel is hoping to save her CDU from oblivion by entering into an alliance with the Greens in Germany. Certainly a good match.

    Anyone watch ‘The Big Questions’

The first half hour was all about how to solve the homeless problem and stopping people living on the streets.

The ‘debate’ consisted of everybody agreeing with each other and virtue signalling for the whole half hour, clapping everything as they all virtuously agreed with each other.

Their solution was (of course it was) building lots more housing.
We need hundreds of thousands more houses every year they said.
Build on the green belt they said.
No mention of flood plains, concreting over drainage meadows and countryside.
    Just build build build.
    Flooding……..never got mentioned.

Not one of the eighty or so in the ‘selected’ audience mentioned the one true fact that controlled everything to do with not having enough housing for the population.
Nobody mentioned the quarter million net arrivals every year, each one needing somewhere to live.

Don’t know if I’m going to bother watching part two.
Something about wimmin needing to fight for their rights.

Somebody should tell the wokes who produce this show that there needs to be opposing arguments and not just person after person agreeing and saying all the ‘right on’ usual lefty dogma.

    * I lasted about 4 minutes into the whingeing wimmin before deleting the lot.
