Boris… You are awful… but I like you

Now we’ll see who are the real fans of lockdowns who would be happy to see restrictions go on forever.

Boris wants civil servants to set example in return to the workplace. So with predictability… Unions at war with PM over back to office‘ (Express)

Schools defy Boris Johnson as they insist face masks must stay in class. Over 100 headteachers have already written to parents to say children will continue wearing masks in lessons despite eased restrictions‘ (Telegraph)

Ministers in row with NHS on surgery backlog… A “very tense” behind the scenes row over how quickly hospitals in England can be expected to reduce the massive backlog of surgery has broken out…‘ (Guardian)

While the freebie Metro acknowledges those of us not in the public sector are going back to work as normal – that’s if we weren’t already: ‘We’re in business‘ – is the crucial difference, whereas the caring sharing frontline public sector taxpayer-funded services… not so keen to serve…

But surely they have our best interests at heart?

New prostate cancer warning for men. Hunt for 50,000 missing patients‘ (‘i’) – that’ll be 50,000 missing men. The sort of casualty figures we last saw on the first morning of the battle of the Somme.

    Think of the children…

Covid in schools: Inquiry launched to find 100,000 pupils absent in England… Dame Rachel de Souza said between 80,000 and 100,000 children were not on any school rolls at all. “Literally, I am going to go out and find them,” she told BBC News... “When I asked the 10 local authorities to send me very simple data [such as] how many children have you got in your area, how many children are not on roll, how many children are waiting for school places, they could not all give me that answer,” she said. “I cannot believe that we can’t actually manage to find every child in this country.”‘ (BBC) – sadly, the emphasis seems to be shifting toward the State’s desire for more non-pandemic times centralised track and trace. They might want to start by monitoring our borders properly.

The grumpy old Telegraph has some grist for their mill: ‘The departure of “Tannoy spam” from trains announced at last‘ – we’ll hail that a conservative victory, I guess?

Late news coming in from Ukraine where we still await and expect about the most talked about, foreshadowed, prefigured, preempted and previewed surprise invasion of all time…

Biden hardens warning to Russia after Kyiv says no attack is “minor”‘ (FT) – as is so often the case the FT muddles all sense of what’s going on in their barely English headlines. Suffice to say Ukraine good… Russia bad.

Here’s another headscratcher from the FT: ‘Surburban sprawl curbs progress for UK cities‘ – I guess the reader is expected to have an advanced degree in the dialectics of town planning to understand the sense of that one?

FT Datawatch has been asking some saucy questions of their survey subjects and getting rather prim replies: ‘No sex please, we’re British. Share of women who say they have not had sex in the past 12 months… When lockdowns were first imposed in early 2020 many speculated that that couples would cuddle up at home and generate a baby boom. But sexual activity has declined…

I’m sorry but I’m picturing that very deadpan 1970s vox pop street interviewer chap from the Dick Emery Show in his specs and car coat accosting various of Emery’s comic drag characters on the suburban streets with his suggestive questions and eliciting conversation such as… “Excuse me madam?” “Miss… Ooow, you seem like a nice young man” as she grabs him by the lapels and pushes him into a privet hedge. Or alternatively there was that other much-loved character: “Ooh… You are awful… but I like you” – for me the best part of the sketch was at the end with that little trip over her heels as she waddled away. It’s probably all cancelled nowadays.

The BBC has decided to ‘go dark ‘ on nut nut for a bit -presumably until the Gray report . Instead they have sent meeshalll to somewhere pop north called Noo Castle .

You can imagine the planning to go to noo castle – the risk assessment – do they speak English – do they have running water – is there a coffee shop ?

More seriously it sounds funny that they treat a bit of Blighty to a ‘royal visit ‘ from a London beeboid ……

Oh god – the sports section is doing something on a Jamaican skier trainer ? ( born in Northampton ) who is going China …

How on Earth does Drakeford think he can get away with comments on anyone else doing this when he was caught dancing, maskless, at a wedding when he has imposed even more draconian laws on the Welsh people than Johnson has on the English.

If Boris has to go then so does he and Starmer for that matter as he was caught partying when calling for harsher measures to be implemented.

It seems as if it is one rule for the Conservatives and another for the Left wing parties. It was ever thus with the Left wing media.

A Victorian government-funded youth body has created a TikTok video encouraging teenagers to go on “vax dates” to get the Covid-19 vaccine without their parents’ permission.

The video by the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVIC) features two teenage girls who go on a post-lockdown date to see a movie – but when asked to show their vaccination certificate, one says “my parents haven’t let me get vaccinated yet”.

“I mean, you’re over 14. You don’t actually need to get their permission,” the other girl says. “Wanna go do it now – go on a vax date?”

“That sounds fun,” the girl replies.

With a bit of pre flight down time I’m pondering the content of the Gray Report . How long will it be ? How will it be structured? What material will be released to support its ‘findings ? Will it be comprehensive enough ?

I’ve said before that I think it will disappoint everyone – not enough to find nut nut lied to the Commons – but enough to find that regulations were broken .

Those responsible will either resign and go public or go on the civil service / Tory naughty step before getting better jobs if they keep quiet .

Those who organised these boozy works meetings ? Will have to go I guess – with the promise of a gong for all their hard work / drinking ….

It would be good if a few more wet false members of the Conservative party found their true home along side Jess and angie and the various convicted criminals in the opposition .

The BBC will just keep on and on with it – screw any forthcoming nuclear war or destroyed infrastructure – they’ll just keep going on and on long after the last variant has killed half the population …

Like most MPs then! And those in politics.

What is important is not the particular person who is elected President or the party he belongs to. I have often said we shall not correct the state of affairs by electing the right people; we’ve tried that. The right people before they’re elected become the wrong people after they’re elected. The important thing is to make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. If it is not politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either.

As someone born and brought up in WW2 learnt to love and be proud of my country, and after some military service loved it even more, married and with my wife we brought up three sons, two of whom served in the Military & theatres of war. These past twenty years I have lost that feeling of pride, feel the nation I once was proud of has been raped of all it once stood for. Our Queen now appearing still so strong and brave irrespective of what has gone on around her, must be so very sad at what she sees happening-the Devil is upon us but are we strong enough to resist?

Totalitarianism has now entered into our society.
WE in Western societies naively imagine we would never descend into totalitarianism, because such systems are unmistakably evil and we are undeniably good. Not only would we immediately recognise it, but our moral goodness and inestimable courage would see to it that we stopped it before it took root. Our ability to oppose such a system does not depend on our ability to see the evil from our armchairs decades later. Rather, it depends on our ability to spot totalitarianism in its fledgling form in our day, and on summoning the courage and resolve to stand against it here and now.
And so as millions pat themselves on the back for doing good during a public health crisis, in reality they have facilitated those intent on drawing a digital Iron Curtain across society to carry out their aims, thus edging us towards a totalitarianism system and society that most would recognise as evil if they read about it 50 years from now. Is it tooe Late?
A note from J Edgar Hoover- “The individual is handicapped by coming face-to-face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. The … mind simply has not come to a realization of the evil which has been introduced into our midst. It rejects even the assumption that human creatures could espouse a philosophy which must ultimately destroy all that is good and decent.” – I ask again is it too late to turn the tide which will destroy our world as we know it or knew it.

Islam has always been at war with … ISLAM.

    1985….
Ahmadis suffer vicious persecution around the world. The main source of fuel for that persecution is in Pakistan, but what happens in Pakistan does not stay in Pakistan.

I know that from my experience in the Yorkshire market town of Batley. In August 1985, when I was 11 years old, my parents organised an inter-faith meeting in the town hall. It was interrupted and disturbed when, according to West Yorkshire police, more than 1,000 extremists, led by Pakistani hate preachers funded by the Pakistani state, were bused in from around the country. The mob brutally attacked my English mother and my father, a dermatologist; my eldest brother and I; and a Welsh Ahmadi schoolteacher who was with us. My first cousin, a GP, was by chance driving through the market town that day. He saw the mob and saw his family and friends being attacked, so he stopped. He was recognised, pulled from his vehicle and savagely beaten up.

Dear Winston Smith in the Records Department of the Ministry of Truth,

R4 consumer show talking about an Instagram scam
At the end of the scam, before your “winnings” are transferred you are asked to make an Instagram “win video” celebrating your win ..and then asked to hand over your phone password to confirm your ID.
At that point the scammer transfers your phone control to his number and hijacks your Instagram account
and begins sending out your “win video” to all your friends

Your friends see you won and so begin transferring money to the scammer
All the same as you got sucked into the scam in the first place.

You contact Instagram to complain, and never get through to a human ..just a bot which tells you they have reviewed your claim
and found the scammer has done nothing wrong ..and you can block them if you want.

The BBC reporter collected about 8 examples of people stuck in this situation for months
Of course The Instagram PR dept did listen to her and immediately cancelled the hijacked accounts.

    Not bbbc.

On GB News they are talking about pensions and cost of living.
Liam Halligan started off by saying pensioners are finding it hard to manage on a basic state pension of £180 per week.

I often hear this figure used yet three quarters of pensioners are on the lower second class pension of a maximum of about £137 per week.
UK population over 65 is 12.7 million and over 70 (old pension) is 9 million.
Each year the gap gets bigger because a percentage increase will be larger when the pension amount is more.

You would think these presenters would be aware of this almost £50 per week difference yet they never seem to mention it.

When they say pensioners are finding it difficult (on the £180pw pension) just imagine how those on the second class pension are managing.

Stop press: An email has been read out on his show mentioning this and Halligan says “good point”
Is that all he can say?

As ever late to the party (an affliction that’s evident throughout my life), I only succumbed to Netflix in December 2020 when my Sky box needed upgrading, and tbh for me its been well worth the money. Terrestrial channels have been dire, Sky Cinema repeats so often their catalogue, (despite there being millions of films I could suggest to them), that I can recite the script of A Few Good Men, Red October and Groundhog Day no problem.

Its also been good for me to refresh my Spanish, which is now back to a good standard (circa 1990) via the numerous Spanish films and dramas on offer. Plus when being ‘laid up’ and living on my own, its been a godsend.

Yes, Fed I do agree that there has been an increase of wokery, and due in part to many productions being made under the Shonda Rhimes umbrella -she’s currently on the front of Time Magazine. Although there are still a huge number of dramas – mainly foreign that have not gone down the diversity route.
