BTW If you build anything you increase the world’s oil and gas consumption.
If you build one gas power station you need concrete and steel.
If you build a solar/wind farm that makes the same amount of electricity in a year , you’ll use about 100 times more concrete and steel.
.. So you will vastly increase this years oil/gas demand.

I was watching GBnews this evening for the first time over an extended time (usually just 10-15 minutes) and have to say it is nice to spend a couple of hours actually enjoying a news channel.

Contrast the bBBC where I would be ranting at the blatant propaganda and misinformed bile that they spew out endlessly before rapidly reaching for the off button.

Just watched the Beth Rigby Interview with Boris the bottler on Sky, and what a pair of vile individuals!

She asked about a no fly zone completely oblivious to the reality this would a) require Nato approval and b) That Putin would almost certainly vapourise the UK with Nuclear weapons, which Boris completely failed to asnwer in an adequate manner.

She then asked the most horrific question I think I’ve ever heard, as to whether the killing of mothers children and babies pricked his concience and kept him awake at night!
As if it’s the fault of the British PM !

A courageous PM would have told her where to get off, but Boris being a coward carried on as if it was a normal question.

He was asked as to what he thought might be the way Putin could extract himself from the war and all Boris could say was that it has to be his (Putins) decision. When pressed on how a face saving exit could be offered, all he did was repeat the answer.

He also said that he has no intention of finding alternative fuels for power generation, he spoke again about nuclear power, but Rigby failed to press him on time. He comitted to using even more gas if he can find it.

All in all, she didn’t have a clue what she was talking about, and he failed to respond appropriately to questions which were clearly beyond the pale.

Journos know they can get away with bullying and interrupting politicians as they will not defend themselves, especially when their victims are Tory ones – Labour/SNP etc always get an easy ride. They need to take control away from the journos and fight back instead of looking like rabbits caught in the headlights – DT knew exactly how to put them in their place as amply demonstrated in the clip posted earlier today.

For those of a nervous disposition and who missed Mark Steyn’s excellent but chilling piece tonight, would strongly recommend you do not look at a re-run. He covered in depth the alleged bio labs in Odessa and interviewed this guy who 3 years ago ran a war games scenario between NATO and Russia over an Eastern European dispute (may even have been Ukraine) which had only one outcome – it ended in MAD – mutually assured destruction with a billion dead.

I’ll be first in the queue tomorrow morning at my local builders merchant to order a ton of sand and cement with my plans to build a nuclear fall out shelter – useful to keep out radiation and those anthrax spores from the labs.

Even if the worst happened the beeb would still have as their headline news – pressure grows on Boris to resign because of partygate.

    • Doublethinker says:

On your recommendation I just watched it and it is truly alarming. If all of this was said in the US congress in open session under oath just earlier this week I assume that it is true.
The US has labs doing highly dangerous biological scattered throughout Ukraine. God help us if a bomb or shell hits one of them or some Russian squaddies storm one of them without realising what it actually is. Or Putin deliberately accidentally on purpose targets them. I assume that Zelensky could also threaten to blow them as a last resort.
No more need be said about nuclear. The whole thing is stomach churning. The points about the impact of sanctions on Russia being as catastrophic for them as military defeat is also scary.
Clearly this makes it ever more important that a peaceful way out of this is found before any further escalation happens or either leader is forced into a corner.
Assuming we all make it through the next month or two, I wonder how long Mark Steyn will be allowed on the UK airwaves. He is demolishing the reputation of the International Blob single-handedly . They aren’t going to like it. Closing him down may be the least that they might do to him.

        Double
I can’t see mark Steyn broadcasting in the UK for too much longer. He must be at the top of the MSM target list and if he does break the ‘approved view ‘ bigly I’m sure that the BBC twitter army and combined wokes will hit him in every way – from door stepping to the personal stuff (if there is any ).
There must be great concern about somebody refusing to play the MSM game . And he is a reminder that once upon a time broadcasting was ‘plural ‘ and sometimes even a bit ‘Right’.

Those in the MSM must be alarmed that the same message pumped out by a variety of colours and sexes can be challenged – even for 1 hour 4 nights a week …

In the comments there is an interesting discussion about the wording of the BBCnews article.

#1 MP is defamed by Google advert calling him a paedophile protector
#2 Instead of Google fessing up
he has to spend 1 year suing them
    #3 Google offer settlement terms
And the BBC title is “Lee Anderson: MP settles with Google over child abuse advert”
FFS he’s not really the settler .. it’s Google who caved in and offered terms
#4 Google is still protecting the name of the person/org that PAID them for the defamatory advert.

Normally the R4’s Briefing Room spends its time attacking Trump and Boris
but last night’s edition on Putin was different.
Their panel of experts seemed to say Putin has bitten off more that he can chew.

    Their claims
    – Ukraine army has spend years building a disciplined well paid army.
    – Russia doesn’t have a huge well equipped army
Instead it has a few divisions that are good and well equipped and then a majority that aren’t
    – Troops thought they were just on border exercises, so didn’t bother about maintenance of the equipment and had maybe sold stuff for money.
    – Russian law says that conscripts are not allowed to be sent into action..Putin has broken this ..some mothers are speaking up.
    – The conscripts are poor working class, the middle class buy themselves out of it.
    – City youth are aware what’s going on, but Putin doesn’t care. He only cares about his base the old and rurals, they are right behind him .. except the conscripts mothers.

Earlier on GB news the head of Ukraine’s foreign legion made it clear they don’t accept Nato soldiers who deserted.
‘One guy turned up, we put him on a plane back’.
‘We can’t have nato soldiers, fighting with us, cos the politics of that put us in a very dangerous situation’

I don’t want to be picky but could Labour explain how they are going to select their women only short list for candidates in future?
My understanding of their position on gender is that anyone can choose their gender regardless of their biological sex ( such an outdated concept) . So are Labour now declaring that women only shortlists refer to the chosen gender of someone rather than their equipment?
Additionally, could Labour explain why , if as they claim there are more than two genders , they intend to exclude all those with chosen genders except one , woman, from their short list of candidates?
Surely it would be far less discriminatory if they allowed candidates of any chosen gender to be on their shortlists . In that case why is the chosen gender of a potential candidate of any interest to anyone?

      U.S. government involvement
Knowledge and co-responsibility of the U.S. government has been debated. Whereas some claim complete lack of information to the White House, other scholars have claimed U.S. knowledge and involvement. German historian [[{{{1}}}]] [] has stated:

The work of the US advertising agency for the Kuwaiti carried the signature of the White House in a certain way. President Bush was briefed by Fuller on every single step. Whether he also gave his personal consent for the baby story, however, cannot be proven. What remains, however, is that close personal contacts existed between the US government and an agency that had demonstrably given birth to lies. The same agency was even directly employed by the US government in another context.[42]

Talking of which – I hear that the Comic Relief thing is next Friday . I wanted to see what they spend their money on – 10 million goes on staff – the ceo gets £500k … last year a lot of money went on ‘gender justice’ and African racial equality . …
          ….
My estimate is £1 in £7 goes on pay / admin …..

In view of the needs of Ukraine – will the ‘income ‘ ( that’s what they call ‘charity ‘ all go to Ukraine – or will it still be syphoned off to buy BMWs in Africa …?

    Pulp fiction edition

In football the referee will tend to call a foul if you play the man and not the ball.

Of course there’s no referee, no action replays and certainly no VAR governing Government or media these days.

‘Blood on his hands‘ is the Times headline: ‘Ministers say Roman Abramovich is “complicit” with Putin as Britain becomes first country to sanction him

The accusation of accessory before the fact is given a pretty wide definition as detailed in the Daily Mirror: ‘Abramovich cashed in on his relationship with Putin for decades… & his steel firm may have helped build tanks killing Ukrainian kids

Journalism is ideally based on the classic mantra of the five Ws – Who, What, Where, When and Why of a story. Meanwhile, we’re now more often considering that latter day favourite media tropes – “may” “might” “could”…

Russia could use chemical weapons, warns PM‘ (Times)

Surely at least our peace-loving leftist Guardian will call out lying Boris for this speculative warmongering and – if somehow vaguely familiar – rhetorical flight of fancy? Maybe they could, if their boy Blair hadn’t so muddied the WMD waters.

Chelsea in crisis‘ (Guardian) – in the way of a tabloid the Gruan puts the sport as almost a bigger story than Ukraine itself.

Fans of Quentin Tarantino movies will recognise the phrase “I’ma gonna git medieval on your ass

“Medieval conditions” in a city under constant attack‘ (Guardian) – think of it… no electricty, no gas for heating, petrol at prices last seen in the film Mad Max, no medical care, hospitals overwhelmed, broken infrastructure, crime gangs able to roam free in the streets, paper money worthless, shops stripped of food and vital supplies such a loo roll… martial law – blimey, it would be a bit like Lockdown.

Speaking of Pulp Fiction: ‘Jussie Smollett sentenced to 150 days in jail in attack hoax case… after a jury found he lied to police about being the victim of a hate crime‘ (BBC)

And, sadly, on the subject of black men misremembering: ‘Samuel L Jackson My Worries about Alzheimer’s – it runs in the family‘ (‘i’)

Jackson is a much admired actor who could convincingly play the tough guy. Whereas: ‘Michael Bublé Easygoing? No I’m a dramtic bitch‘ (‘i’)

But now we’ve wandered way off topic. Back to the football…

Skintski. Chelsea could go bust as Roman hit‘ – we’ll allow the Sun their speculative “could” for the moment: ‘Ban on selling players & tickets. Sponsors pull out amid fan fears‘ – I’m not clear what fans “fear” exactly?

Meanwhile, some fans are apparently still keen to keep politics out of their sport: ‘Travelling fans at Carrow Road chanted the name of Roman Abramovich hours after it was announced Chelsea’s Russian owner had been sanctioned by the UK government‘ (BBC) – get with the programme, you Chelsea boys, all the fans of your Premier League rivals are keen to see your owner sanctioned.

British public to be asked to take in refugees‘ (Telegraph) – I’m expecting the house cartoonist Matt to draw an eager husband introducing his dubious missus to the newly arrived nubile dolly bird refugees Anastasiya and Ludmila, he’s moving in to occupy a bed in his suburban garden shed.

Speaking of Matt, the Daily Star shamelessly pinches his joke of last week as their headline: “I’ve checked the bank balance and we can either fill the car with petrol or buy Chelsea” – surely there is some form of copyright on cartoon captions?

An experiment by the civil rights group Big Brother Watch has proved that politicians are walking into an anti-free speech trap that would censor their own comments. The government is intent on pressing ahead with the Online Safety Bill – set to be published next week – creating a new category of regulated “legal but harmful” speech which would hit the very politicians forcing through the change. They will be censored by their own legislation.

Using dummy accounts Big Brother Watch posted historic comments to Facebook which had been made Boris, Nadine Dorries and Angela Rayner, all three of which were removed for being offensive: Boris’s ‘burka letter boxes’ column quote; Nadine’s “nail your balls to the floor” tweet; and Raynor’s “shoot your terrorists and ask questions second” joke.

The German government has approved a criminal inquiry into a comic who mocked the Turkish president, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced.

By law, the government must approve any use of an article of the criminal code on insulting foreign leaders.

      Taffman,

A Government cunning plan in the making?

Whatever happened to the legal efforts to remove individual council tenants from properties too large for them? ‘Enforced downsizing’ for council renters if I’m not very much mistaken.

To do similar to freehold/leasehold properties may prove a little more difficult for Government but, it is the only option to offer more housing stock for Syrians, Iraqis, Africans, Chinese, (and all the rest on the long list). Enforced downsizing for, “The Englishman’s Home is his Castle”. I loved the expression used by Prof. Kevin Gray in his classic text, ‘Elements of Land Law’, he referred to the Freeholder as being the, “Head Tenant” to the Crown.

After all, we cannot build (as already pledged) thousands of new homes, create thousands of acres of woodland and still retain farming so as to produce 60% of our own food. It just doesn’t add up so I’ll call it, Bull*h*t.

I have mentioned this here before, but for any viewers of University Challenge it’s worth looking out for each week the super woke round of questions (sometimes more than one round) specially asked to fulfil some sort of diversity agenda.
This week it was a round dedicated to some obscure black people. Needless to say none of the otherwise brilliant teams could answer any of these questions or had even heard of those concerned so could only respond by saying pass.
And this happens every week. Sometimes it’s about unworthy feminists, but mostly dedicated to black folk of next-to-zero merit.

“Be it so. This burning of widows (India/suttee) is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed.
