Can they inflict their views onto the Island of Sodor ?

I mean Thomas The Tank Engine seems an innocent form of locomotive. He knows his place and being a racist seems beyond that . Gordon and Henry might feel high and mighty but their hauteur seems to be because they are main line express locos not because they’ve joined the Monday Club .

Annabel and Clarice the carriages seem more interested in the way they are shunted about , rather than the veracity of the Bell curve .

The Fat Controller seems a bit too indolent to even take up racism.

All in all I think an interest in steam engines is more for the ‘anorak ‘ enthusiasts rather than neo Nazis and regression to racial politics.

It really does make one wonder what at got into the heads of these people . Do they think expunging history means it never happened ?
Looking back from where we are now vast numbers of people – of all colours and origins – had a pretty bad existence – slavery – feudalism – the work house – low life expectancy – but should that all be denied or made into a league table of suffering or wrongs ? No .

Watching Chris Mason on Newsnight it is apparent that the BBC are actively pushing an agenda of crap. Why they feel it is necessary for Mason to wear headphones talking to someone else in the same room also wearing headphones is totally bizarre and can only be for some sort of visual effect, it was like watching a student media exercise.

The BBC have now entered the realm of sensationalism previously occupied by the lurid daily papers like the Sun.

Mason comes over like a total twat spouting things his floor manager has briefed him with,

    Some say it’s God’s punishment …

    Smite the good smite……..

Roger Trousers de Pink reviews The Bible, the collection of short stories by literary enfant terrible God.

One could, if one’s concentration slipped for a second, become lost in the sheer historical scale of what must surely count as a magnum opus, three thousand years in the writing and going from the dawn of time to the Roman occupation of Israel and on to events yet to come.

And what events! This sizzling potboiler runs the gamut of human experience, from deception, jealousy, murder, incest, prostitution, slavery, war, genocide, child murder, adultery, idolatry, and more death and destruction than you’d find in an Arnold Schwarzenegger film, all set to a background and leitmotiv of a history of the Jewish peoples.

It is in the latter that the second volume finds its roots, and far from the derring-do of the first volume, in which we meet titanically-proportioned warriors, a novel and quite radical attitude to nautical travelling, strongmen deceived by beauty, a raft of clairvoyants, massive aerial bombardments in the best tradition of shock-and-awe, a sailor who has a whale of a time, and possibly the most unfortunate farmer to which the world has ever played host, the second deals with the life and aftermath thereof of a man who appears to be an early experiment in genetic engineering as he was conceived asexually.

We learn of his skill with carpentry, and later of his skill in catering and as a physician, too, and in keeping with one of the great scenes of volume one, learn of yet another ingenious way to cross water.

And yet despite the polymathic tendencies of the lead character and focus, he remains humble and surprisingly virtuous, if a little preachy; he may be likened to a kind of Classical Age version of a hippy, but without the pot or a Volkswagen camper van. His dreadful fate is clearly a swipe at man’s inhumanity to his fellow man, and at the same time a telling commentary on the practices of the soi-disant civilised Roman Empire.

The work ends with a disturbing foretelling of whores and beasts to come; one might almost think that God had seen our modern-day celebrity culture; and all ends, except for a lucky few, in a sea of depravity and wailing as a great battle is fought. One might equally quip that God has seen Spankerz nightclub on a Saturday night, too.

All in all, an epic read of swords, sandals, stonings, and salacious sauciness that will have the most avid scandalmonger enthralled for days; no wonder it was on Richard and Judy’s “summer must-reads” for weeks and is currently at the top of the best-seller lists. If you liked Tolkien, you’ll love this.

It has to be said that Fox news reporting of the Ukraine invasion has been disgraceful. Even before the war started I was voicing here concerns about Tucker Carlsons poor reporting and sometimes down right lying about the situation, and this time they have found themselves squarely on the wrong side of the argument.

Opposing the left is one thing, but just opposing them because they are left is another.

Fox was even attacking Republicans for their support of Ukraine. They lost the plot over this and criticism is reasonable.

Poor old BBC, imagine their dilemma: a story lands in their inbox about a famous Tik-Toker in Iraq who’s been brutally murdered.

Some say Iman Sami was killed because she was a feminist activist defending women’s rights on social media platforms.

Nothing the BBC loves more than a feminist victim (except perhaps a black feminist victim) so the news editorial meeting must have been clamouring for a front page story.

BUT, slow down guys: others claim she was killed for the terrible crime of apostasy, ie renouncing the BBC’s favourite religion of peace, to become a Christian – the BBC’s most hated religion.

“Oh, er, let’s not be too hasty, this is a complex issue.”

In the end they didn’t report it at all, as far as I can see.

    1. Declaring ‘no-debate’
As important as argument is to democracy, there simply isn’t time for everyone to debate everything.
    2. Claiming that the science is settled
This one is a special case of declaring no-debate.
    3. Emotional blackmail
The right to free speech does not include the right to harass and harangue those who have no wish to engage with you.
    4. Accusations of gaslighting
Gaslight is a 1944 film starring Ingrid Bergman as a woman whose husband tries to convince her she’s going mad.
    5. Accusations of ‘mansplaining’
‘Mansplaining’ is another new word for something that does actually happen.
    6. Accusations of ‘white fragility’
Further to the above. I should point out that I’m a man who’s just explained what I think about mansplaining. This makes a mansplainer squared, so feel free to disregard.
    7. “I’m not here to educate you”
Speaking of rhetorical weapons, here’s another. Its purpose is not to silence your opponents, but to provide you with an excuse not to answer them.

Does it matter who funds a think tank or a publication? Yes, it does.
    9. Alt democracy
In a free society, debate can take place just about anywhere — from the pub to the poshest dinner party. In reality, though, some arenas matter more than others — Parliament, for instance, or the opinion pages of a national newspaper.
    10. The catastrophisation of disagreement
It’s taken a real catastrophe (Coronavirus) to drive Brexit from the headlines. But for most of the last four years, Leave versus Remain has torn us apart as a nation (supposedly).

    Zombified by propaganda edition

There is a legend that the word posh derrives from a time when those more well-to-do passengers on ships travelling between England and India used to have POSH written against their bookings with P&O, standing for ‘Port Out, Starboard Home

Nice story, turns out the tale is probably tosh.

P&O halts ferry crossings and sacks 800 sailors via Zoom call‘ (FT)

This example of rather buccaneering management has stirred quite some resentment below decks. As the BBC puts it in their inimitable news style of we don’t take any particular stand, we just report feelings: ‘P&O Ferries faces backlash after firing 800 workers

The tabloids are more robust: ‘Ferry chiefs slammed. “What a bunch of anchors!”‘ (Sun); ‘Up ship creek. Scumbag P&O bosses sparked a mutiny…‘ (Star)

We have to read on beyond the outrage and the industrial language to hear P&O explain: “We have made a £100m loss year-on-year” – that’s an awful lot of Bounty down the Swanee – due to lockdowns.

Fortunately, for employees in the public sector at least, no such commercial strictures will apply: ‘DVLA staff watched TV in bed as backlog mounted‘ (Times); ‘Opinion. Why people are giving up on the NHS and going private. Isabel Hardman‘ (‘i’)

And one only finds reference to foreign ownership of the ships – that detail is not exactly telegraphed in the headline distress calls – to be boldly signalled in the Telegraph: ‘Sheikh shuts down P&O in battle with union

    Globalisation, eh?

The FT gloats: ‘Post-Brexit trade outlook under fire. MPs have warned the economic benefits of trade deals have not been made clear by ministers and that it was doubtful the government would hit its targets for more agreements this year‘ – despite the massive disruption to world trade due first to lockdowns and now to trade sanctions the FT there still banging on about why it didn’t want Brexit and still failing to understand the desire for national sovereignty was about more than just economics.

Speaking of which: ‘Economy first. Zelensky pours scorn on Berlin… criticising Germany over its policy towards Ukraine, accusing its leaders of placing economic relations with… Putin, above the security of Europe‘ (FT) – ouch!

“Tear down this wall!”‘ – the freebie Metro quotes the Ukrainian leader channelling President Reagan.

Zelenskiy urges Germany: tear down wall dividing free and unfree Europe‘ (Reuters) – as a former actor the Ukrainian president will understand the importance of fitting his script to suit his audience. Notice there’s no talk of fighting them on the beaches, in the streets and in the hills, for his German audience. I wonder how talk of turning up two years too late for the war might go down with the Yanks?

Datawatch amuses us oncemore on the frontpage of the FT: ‘Defence budgets. Expenditure as % of GDP‘ – turns out the biggest arms spender of late is Nato member Greece. No doubt concerned to shore up their defences against fellow Nato member Turkey – figures for the Turks are oddly missing from the chart. I shouldn’t take these numbers too seriously. The UK manages to meet the Nato 2% target only by somewhat dubious means, such as including army pensions, and of course our – unusable on the battlefield – nuclear deterant is a big cost item.

Bank of England lifts rates by further quarter as inflation hits 8%‘ (FT) – well if the Chancellor can’t ever cut any costs in our massive public sector, can only inflate away some of his enourmous national debt and can only raise our taxes via inflation, then what’s a chap to do?

Returning to the subject of the posh: ‘Bowles dies, 85‘ (Daily Star) – this is the much-admired: ‘Peter Bowles, raffish actor who found fame alongside Penelope Keith in To the Manor Born‘ (Telegraph)

Home at last. Reunited and ready to “live in the future not the past”‘ (Guardian) – quite right too. The less we dwell on precisely what Mrs Ratcliffe was doing in Iran and what had to be done to bring her home the better: ‘Pompeo says UK paid Iran “blood money”‘ (Telegraph)

Pete Doherty. I’m back and I’m sober. “Regrets? I wouldn’t know where to start”‘ (‘i’)

Speaking of fallen heroes: ‘Southgatewill talks to dropped Rashford‘ (Telegraph)

Did Bashir’s lies mean Diana died convinced her most loyal aide had betrayed her?‘ – asks the Daily Mail. The Daily Star is more concise: ‘BBC Di shame

Hospital told police patient was not raped because alleged attacker was transgender
Assault was confirmed through CCTV and witnesses despite previous denials, Lords told, as debate on single-sex wards policy continues

    More in today’s Mail here.
Hospital told police a woman who complained she was raped that only other women were present on the single-sex ward – before admitting after a YEAR that one was trans

This case was raised by Baroness Nicholson in the Lords who believes the incident stemmed directly from the NHS’s Annex B policy, which allows patients to be placed on single-sex wards depending on the gender they identify with. The policy states that trans people should be accommodated ‘according to their presentation: the way they dress, and the name and pronouns they currently use’, rather than their biological sex at birth. …
Lady Nicholson added: ‘The result of Annex B is that hospital trusts inform ward sisters and nurses that if there is a male, as a trans person, in a female ward, and a female patient or anyone complains, they must be told that it is not true – there is no male there.

I’ve just realised that I must be a racist. I was watching a report about refugees in Poland. The report came from a new shopping centre which was at a stage where the shops were about to be fitted out, so all the infrastructure is in place. The authorities realised that it could be re-purposed as a reception area for several thousand Ukrainians. Looking inside, some of the shops were working as kitchens, with food on shelves and (Mostly) women busily cooking and preparing meals. There were several large sleeping areas with beds in lines, and people busily milling about, Nurseries, language classes, nobody seemed to be short of a job to do.
What have we got here? Fighting age men who spend most of the time harassing schoolgirls, causing chaos in the local town, and smearing sh1t on the walls if they don’t get three or four halal meals a day.
I know which I’d sooner have coming to live near me. I can make a guess which group I am looking at by the colour of their skin. That makes me a racist. Tough, i can live with it.
What do the bbc report? Some left-wing gonk has said in the guardian that we are all racist because of which group we offer places to.

I have to say that the number of people in complete denial of what is going on around them is truly staggering.
The number booking summer holidays costing tousands and thousands of pounds is staggering, yet these are probably the same people who come the Autumn are going to be moaning about the cost of fuel, utilities and food, and expecting the government to bail them out of their own stupid decisions.

Checking the graph of Wholesale gas prices pence per them shows more than a ten fold uptick in the price. The knock on inevitable effect of this means that someone paying £200 per month for gas & electric is going to be looking at a rise to around £2000 per month.

And of course add into the mix rising interest rates and inflation across the board, and it’s not difficult to see many of the population will soon own nothing and are not going to be very happy at all!

It’s inevitable that this will happen to some regardless of what they do, but there will be many others who are in this simply because of their own poor decision making and we should not be bailing those people out.

I am increasingly amazed, any perusal of roads or car parks will inform one that maybe 80% at least seem to be driving around in new or nearly new cars regardless of age, 20 year olds in brand new BMWs etc.

Some, a few, may be company cars, many of the remaining I would strongly suspect are on credit, add that to the eye watering car insurance on that, a mortgage, and the 10 – 20 K wedding and student loans and the latest iphone contract and there is not much left in the case of a job loss or recession.

THE PRESIDENT: Last night in Kabul, the United States ended 20 years of war in Afghanistan — the longest war in American history.

We completed one of the biggest airlifts in history, with more than 120,000 people evacuated to safety. That number is more than double what most experts thought were possible. No nation — no nation has ever done anything like it in all of history. Only the United States had the capacity and the will and the ability to do it, and we did it today.

The extraordinary success of this mission was due to the incredible skill, bravery, and selfless courage of the United States military and our diplomats and intelligence professionals.

WHAT WE DO WITH OUR GRANTS MONEY
Our grants money isn’t paid out all at once because some of the grants we give last for a long time – up to six years – and we need to make sure the money is being spent as we agreed. That’s why we phase the payments and ask the organisations to report on what they’re doing with the money before the next payment is made.

    https://www.comicrelief.com/about-comic-relief/finances

Over £7m of funding went to projects led by and for communities facing racial inequalities
through our Global Majority Fund and government partnerships. The Global Majority Fund and
Supporting & Sustaining Specialism Fund both utilised a Fund Reference Group which included
people with lived experience to design the programmes and take decisions on allocation of
funding. We also launched a Fund designed by young people which aims to tailor programmes
    that prevent youth violence.
53% of our international investments went directly to organisations in the Global South.

As Arnold Schwarzenegger steps down this month, California voters can only marvel that a leader of such apparent strength is leaving the Golden State such a weakling—its institutions eroded and its finances more of a mess than when he took over from Gray Davis after the 2003 recall. Even among Schwarzenegger’s earliest detractors, few would have dared to predict that by his last summer in office, the governor who had entered the statehouse a movie star would bottom out with a 22 percent public approval rating, tying Davis for the lowest recorded approval rating in California history.

But then again it supports my view that the people in charge are not always the cleverest or switched on – however long they spent networking at oxbridge .

I got the impression those false calls went on for quite a while and have given the game away on nato strategy and detail ….

Clever job by the Russians though …

… the dog of a Russian foreign minister was on RT saying – in English – how the Ukraine situation was the responsibility of America ….
Only the Russians would reverse the truth – he didn’t mention the millions of women and children being displace.d from their country by Russian savagery –
Maybe a war crimes trial for him someday – or better still – an early death – with putin …. …

Just to add on labrov – putin is using the same technique hitler used to expand his country by conquest …. It’s gonna be a long war – or a very short ‘flash ‘ type ….
