Criticise Migration, Go to Jail? Ireland’s Woke Revolution: Europe’s Most Serious Free Speech Threat

Why is Irish politics so woke? Will the Irish government’s humiliating referendum defeat make it think twice about its draconian “hate speech” legislation? Will it be able to silence those concerned about the impact mass immigration is having in Ireland?

Our guest on this week’s #NCFWhittle is Lorcán Price, an Irish Barrister and Legal Counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom International based in Strasbourg, France.

Ok, GB News is not perfect. But it’s still a damn sight better than the BBC and most other news channels.

So it’s very worrying that Ofcom, the Establishment, the broadcasting industry and groups like Stop Funding Hate are determined to shut it down, and they should be opposed by all means possible.

Partial transcript: “GB News is under threat. The other broadcasters don’t like it. Adam Boulton, long-time veteran of Sky News, said that GB News was damaging the ecosystem of broadcasting, by which he means it’s our little club and we don’t question climate change or mass immigration. We thought EU membership was wonderful, how dare you come along and give us a hard time.

Now the problems are getting very, very real. The industry is regulated by Ofcom. They have decided to put my programme under investigation on the basis they say that I’m a politician. Well, you know what? Even I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here had me as an ex-politician. I am not actively involved in politics at all, but they don’t like it.

And some more of the great and the good are hosting a conference in Sheffield. Have a look at this. It’s absolutely bizarre. They’re saying that GB News is a threat to democracy, so it must be closed down. No sense of irony from these people whatsoever. They don’t agree with much of what is said. Therefore, they simply want the channel closed down.

And I also think that the big political parties perhaps don’t like GB News too much, because it does genuinely question many of the things that are going wrong in this country and around which there is a huge consensus in Western. Worse than that, we have a situation where commercial television and radio survives through advertisements. That model has been there for a very, very long time.

But there’s an organisation called Stop Funding Hate who seem themselves to have quite a lot of money. And if anybody advertises on GB News, they will get dozens of emails every day from Stop Funding Hate saying you’re funding a channel that is damaging democracy, you are funding a channel that is causing division. And frankly, you know, if you’re a marketing officer for a holiday company and you’re bombarded by nasty, aggressive emails, you probably think, you know what, we can’t be bothered with this.

So we are under assault from the regulator. We’re under assault from the rest of the industry. We’re under assault in terms of our advertising, without which keeping the channel going long term is not easy. But there’s a reason, folks, why all this is happening. You won’t really hear much about this, but here goes. You might have noticed that GB News.com is growing rapidly…
    (…)
And if you believe in free speech, open debate, where you hear both sides of an argument. Please, please support us in whatever way you can at GB News because we are under serious attack.”

Keir Smarmer thrived under the ultra left wing leadership of Jeremy Corbyn. The Corbyn regime draw support and ideas from Momentum a Communist splinter group that drove the Political agenda of the Labour Party, the Party that Smarmer seemed happy to serve. Perhaps his morality free professional life as a Lawyer enabled him to fit in with a leader and organisation so extremely at odds with the centre ground of political life which Smarmer now seems to covet. The similarity between Smarmer and Bliar is quite striking, they both believe in personal advancement without regard for the cost to others or moral compass. We all know what Bliar did for Britain we can only expect more of the same disastrous stuff from Smarmer.

“The mural (sic) has been painted to make it look like tree foliage”

“James Peak, who created the BBC Radio 4 series The Banksy Story, rushed to see the work after receiving a tip-off.”
“The message is clear,” he said. “Nature’s struggling and it is up to us to help it grow back.”
“It’s spring now, and this tree should be bursting forth with leaves, but Banksy must have cycled past and thought how miserable it looks,” he said.’

Well it’s actually still winter and most trees are leafless.

Russian election: Putin claims landslide and scorns US democracy
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68592781

I really enjoy reading the BBC write things like this:
‘In truth no credible opposition candidate was allowed to stand.’

Whilst simultaneously completely ignoring the huge elephant in the room where the Left are doing everything they can to prevent Trump being allowed to stand in the USA and the BBC are fully complicit in it.

It’s the most glaring of double-standards and hypocrisy.

    We get:
‘But when election officials said results gave him more than 87% of the vote, he said Russia’s democracy was more transparent than many in the West.’

It occurred to me that we are never told of any polls or approval ratings for him or the extremely ill guy who just died in prison (though the BBC don’t tell us how ill he was). So I checked – and it seems Putins approval rating amongst the Russian people is 88%:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/896181/putin-approval-rating-russia/ and for Alexei Navalny, the most recent poll only put him at 14%:
    https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109765/attitude-toward-activity-of-alexei-navalny-russia/

Now I don’t know how reliable that website is, but all things considered about the real reasons for the war in Ukraine and what the USA/UK are doing to Russia, I find myself tending to believe it. Whatever you think of him, Putin is a strong leader. Something we haven’t had here for many years.

Which of course is all the exact opposite of what the BBC are trying to make us think with their usual lies by omission and lies by inference. Meanwhile the REAL dirty game is going on for the USA election and is about to get a lot more serious. And this time they are entirely on the side of the people doing the cheating.

The BBC is completely f*cked up now. They are consumed by agenda. They need a complete reset.

How much does an air source heat pump cost?
The price of an air source heat pump can vary between £3,500 and £8,900 depending on several factors, such as how powerful the unit is, the brand, government grants and installation costs.

If you live in England and Wales

Costs are inclusive of both installation and a government grant of £7,500, which is made available through the non-means-tested Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

      If you live in Scotland

Costs are inclusive of both installation costs and a government grant of £7,500 which is made available through Home Energy Scotland. You can also apply for an interest-free loan of up to £7,500 to cover the remaining heat pump installation costs.

While heat pumps can be more expensive to install compared to other heating systems, they can be cost-effective due to their energy efficiency.

I’m retired but comfortably off, live in within-M25 Surrey in a detached house. I’m with Octopus and when the heat pump bribe was first announced I got them to survey and quote.

Net cost after grant was £6.5k, not too bad considering a gas boiler replacement would cost c£3k. The first killer was that projected ongoing fuel cost was no cheaper than existing gas and electricity. Then as people complained about heat pump efficiency, I considered how we might manage if the heat pump didn’t function as well as they lied, or didn’t function at all. I asked if the pump would be a hybrid, which would link with an existing gas boiler/ tank system and wouldn’t involve as much work and only a bit more costly than a new boiler. Response was no.
I was totally reluctant to give up the security of two forms of energy to provide essential heating for a single unreliable source.
It seems to me that if the Government had offered grants for hybrid systems they would have had greater take up. If the heat pumps worked as they had lied to us, we wouldn’t need to use the gas boiler so their stupid Net Zero would be achieved.
At my age, I can’t afford to be a frozen Guinea pig.

It is inevitable that one of the many flaws of the BBC mindset is to be unable to step into the shoes of those with a contrary view .
For instance – Russia sees itself as constantly under threat from the U.S. and its’ poodles in NATO . the idea of Ukraine becoming part of NATO gave Putin the excuse / validity to bring Ukraine back into Greater Russia .

The BBC doesn’t get this and portrays NATO as a benevolent peace keeper – not the view from Russia.

Also – are living conditions in Russia improving ? I guess they are …. And since Russians get their news from state TV – they’ll accept the propaganda – just like the BBC in the UK . But I bet Russians don’t have to pay ….

Over the weekend I watched the first two episodes of the new Netflix documentary on the Cold War , Turning Point.
It dealt competently with the period 45 to 55 with no reflection on how events in that period affected the present. But in the last section of the second episode it arrived at the McCarthy era, the atom spies , the anti communist witch hunts. I know that many on here think that he had a point and the the US administration of that time had a lot of fellow travellers within it.
As usual McCarthy was portrayed as a crude rabble rouser trading on the fears of ordinary Americans. But the series elevated him to a demigod of limited ability but with an insatiable lust for power and someone who was unscrupulous and a liar. Someone who posed a real threat to American democracy. He was ably assisted by a young lawyer named Kohn.
Then for the first time and for no apparent reason the series flashed forward thirty or forty years to the eighties . It turns out that Trump’s father hired Kohn to tutor his son Donald in the art of dirty political tactics!!!
No doubt we weren’t meant to split our sides laughing at the crudity of the propaganda like I did but to associate Trump with McCarthy and all that baggage we had been fed just minutes earlier.. Subtlety is not the strong suit of Netflix!
They just can’t help bending supposedly serious documentary series to pursue the Orange Man Bad theme . The credibility of the entire series and of Netflix takes yet another dive.

I don’t feel threatened by Putin at all. We are going through a dangerous time as he makes sure Ukraine cannot join NATO while the USA try to make sure they do. Meanwhile the EU want all that living space (or ‘lebensraum’ as they used to call it) for all the immigrants they are expecting.

I feel far more threatened by the ideological ambition of the fascist Left and the growing confidence and intolerance of the Muslims who they protect and who are growing quickly in numbers:

‘In 2021, 81.7% (48.7 million) of usual residents in England and Wales identified their ethnic group within the high-level “White” category, a decrease from 86.0% (48.2 million) in the 2011 Census.
The next most common high-level ethnic group was “Asian, Asian British or Asian Welsh” accounting for 9.3% (5.5 million) of the overall population, this ethnic group also saw the largest percentage point increase from 2011, up from 7.5% (4.2 million people).’

    * They do their good in a world in which God is irrelevant, and ‘everything is permitted.’
    * With God out of the picture, they are free to do good by their own lights, better than it has ever been done before.
    * The ‘good’ they devise quickly calcifies into orthodoxy.

    * Reeducation can be brutal. An ‘oversensibility for ourselves and an over-indulgence to our own desires,’ said Burke shrewdly, leads to the ‘greatest crimes.’
    * Once committed to those desires, progressives don’t look back. The dead, the damaged and the aborted are ignored or quickly forgotten.
    * Unwilling to undo or even question, they respond to disaster with sad and superficial correctives like mosquito nets or condoms or more ‘education.’
    * Unbound by God, progressives are thus also unbound by any traditions that claim divine inspiration.
    * To the degree that those traditions threaten their progress, progressives are hostile to those traditions, specifically Judeo-Christianity and its twin towers of resolve, America and Israel.”

The Metro draws our focus this morning as that celebrity-obsessed giveaway adsheet – leavened with a bit of left-leaning news reporting – and best friend to the corporate big supermarkets, retail sector, car dealers, mobile networks, banks and consumer finance, et al – marks a jubilee of sorts: As we celebrate our silver anniversary, METRO thanks YOU, our readers, for making this the nation’s favourite weekday paper – of course the fact that it’s a freebie mass-distributed at busy commuter hubs, doesn’t hurt its supposed popularity with the public and sprukes the distribution numbers.

The Google machine suggests the target demographic with which its corporate daddy, Daily Mail and General Trust plc, woos advertisers to the title is an employed, commuting, under 44 years of age audience – and yet many’s the time Mr AsI has spied some elderly old codger pass by the tube station entrance to pick up a thick wad of Metros and secrete them in his tartan wheeled shopping basket, before moving on. At a casual guess – he could be the same sort of demographic that feeds the pidgeons with a loaf of stale bread in your town centre.

Optimistically, either he’s gathering those Metros because he’s having to line more budgerigar cages – with a limited OAP’s budget – than the Birdman of Alcatraz (there’s one for the teenagers) or more likely he’s ‘shopping’ those newspapers on a daily basis for the entertainment of elderly compatriots at the local care home.

So when it comes to distrubution figures – just as we happy band of media watchers hereabouts have learned over the years – don’t swallow the official statistics as gospel.

Speaking of the all-important advertising aspect of the Metro – the Lockdown era must have been a time of both great feast and of great famine for the title.

On the one hand Locked down stay-at-homes couldn’t pick up their daily copies – but on the other hand government splashed the cash on all forms of propagandising: Boris Johnson’s government spent nearly £1bn on advertising in just three years… The Cabinet Office alone spent £586m in the last three years, with the vast majority going on public health awareness campaigns during Covid lockdown (i news, August 2022); New report highlights UK Government role as the UK’s largest advertiser during Covid-19 pandemic (Politics Home, April 2022) – quick editorial correction required there: UK’s largest advertiser during Covid-19 pandemic Lockdown [Lockdown was a policy choice, not an inevitability in either extent or duration]

But we digress – the government agency advertisers are at it again this morning spending our tax money buying the Metro’s prime frontpage spot.

Now, for a moment Mr AsI considered this official ad copy could represent some far better satire than anything his own jaded imagination might dream up at this time of a Monday morning…

Ladies and gentlemen hearabouts, I present to you the UK’s very own: Secret Intelligence Service MI6 – which secret service are – so we learn – hiring…

Do extraordinary things. Work for MI6 – so far so good.

I know what you’re thinking… Sean Connery/Daniel Craig (depending on your demographic) saunters up to the top gaming table at Casino Royale in an immaculately tailored tuxedo – lighting a cigarette with a guilt Zippo (or not, more recently) glancing at the Rolex/Omega on his wrist and introducing himself nonchalantly with that classic line “Bond, James Bond”

But no. Put all that out of your mind. Millennials have subverted our fine traditional British culture and the lunatics have apparently taken over the establishment asylum

Do you enjoy exploring new cultures and want to live overseas?

We went a bit Star Trek there with the exploring new cultures.

Are you a super-networker looking for a flexible role?

Flexible role…? Hints there of WFH, job share, generous materity leave perhaps?

If you have British nationality and over 5 years’ professional experience, don’t self-censor

Send you CV and covering letter…

And with that I’m out of here… talk about Die Another Day

I inadvertently looked at a Metro the other day while I was waiting for my wife in hospital. 30 seconds was enough to remind me why I stopped reading it a few years ago, although I sometimes pick one up to line the base of my hedgehog feeding station.

    Why’s that ?
    ·
Mar 16 they ran this sob story
Tents are being cleared from Mount Street after the men living here were bussed out to a new location this morning
(as if to finally get rid of the tent city for St Patrick’s day)

Then they drove out to the new countryside migrant centre to do a sob story about how the illegals were leaving to get back to Dublin.
Then under the direction of an NGO guy they loaded them into their Virgin media cars to transport them.
There was a minibus too provided by someone.

TOADY Watch #1 – the otter one is a beaver, maybe

TOADY is on the hunt for beavers. Sometime, the TOADY programme will be saying “We should plant more trees to prevent Global Warming and catastrophic Climate Change.” Beavers like to fell trees and will take on any challenge whatever the maturity. Otters prefer to fell young trees, the ones that will grow into CO2 absorbing trees later on.

Absolutely no questions asked about damage to trees by beavers and otters by the female Beeboid as she is taken along a river bank by a female from a ‘river trust’. And no questions asked about flooding where otters and beavers fell trees to make their Sets and Lodges. Dim, dumb and dumber.

On a previous thread I mentioned the fatal flaw in devolution. The ruling devolved party or elected Mayor will always blame government underfunding for all their problems. And they repeatedly get away with it as the Tory government is so spineless.

I hate to say I told you so but on Toady this morning JustRemainin was ‘interviewing’ ( ha ha) Sad Dick Khan as part of his re-election campaign. Guess what? Khan blamed the 22% increase in Londonistan knife crime on…..government underfunding of the police and youth services!

Not that his natural voters and supporters care. Some of them even speak English.

Calculation. Its principle is that any increase or reduction in expenditure in England will automatically lead to a proportionate increase or reduction in resources for the devolved governments in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

      Barnett formula – Wikipedia

      ……

How much money does England give to Scotland?
Block Grant funding for the Scottish Government is the highest since devolution began at around £41 billion a year for 2022-2025. This means that for every £100 per person the UK Government spends in England on matters devolved to Scotland, the Scottish Government will receive around £126 per person in Scotland.

    A propos of nothing.

The public transport obsessed BBC have hypocritically been covering the M25 weekend closure. As if they care about car users. ( they don’t).

The road was closed in order to knock down a footbridge and built a gantry.
    Here’s the thing.
You can’t walk over a gantry.
So how do you now get across the motorway?

Absolutely nothing has been said about this.
No doubt the BBC investigative journalists are looking into it over their skinny lattes.

This is the problem. The haunted fishtank has become a tool of psychological oppression, par excellence.

Many think it’s ‘just’ entertaining and informative and that they are immune to any nefarious ‘nudging’ which might be going on. You’re not immune.

Every time you switch on, you’re being ‘innoculated’ against harmful ‘conspiracy theories’ whilst at the same time having your psychological immune system damaged repeatedly and severely such that it is wide open to whatever junk misinformation BIT and other actors might wish to insert between your ears and have it ‘stay’ there, as in the case of the ‘climate change message’ so eloquently explained by Coronation Street’s Samia Longchambon.
