Others here, I am sure during their long working lives, would have come across a company they were employed by, being taken over/bought out. In many instances, the new regime would quickly stamp their requirements on the workforce . All to the betterment in the main. I (we?) had respect for this changing force and indeed, as time progressed and I (we?) became senior managers/owners in our own right, we adopted the same approach. Because we saw our previous commercial ‘upbringing’ worked.
If those you highlight have never experienced the stark change when people are forced to change their ways, it would explain a lot about the level of management ability within the “Elite” class. It would also account for my continuing disgust at how they operate currently.

I too saved copies of Private Eye magazine from 1971 to about the year 2000 when I cancelled my subscription. Then a few years later gave them to a charity shop which I now rather regret because they could have been used to rub Mr Hislop’s nose in REAL satire.
I know that Richard Ingrams edits The Oldie magazine which I have never read. Perhaps I should but I suppose I kid myself that at 84 I’m still too young to join the old gits club.

I had not meant to watch woke ITV’s latest episode of Grantchester, but curiosity got the better of me.
I knew what to expect, and was not disappointed. The new Indian vicar was mistaken for a burglar. Of course he was. When he walked into the pub, all the talking stopped and no-one would acknowledge him, because racists. However all the white women found him deeply attractive, even the one armed girl who does the filing. Of course they did.
So no surprise there. The British people in 1961 were crude racists, despite the fact that black GIs here during the war found them to be kind and welcoming. What went wrong?
But the real reason the episode sucked for me was the plotline. Two farmers were quarrelling over who owned a field. They could just have checked the title deeds, but in this parallel universe one shot the other with a full bore rifle, then panicked and fled the scene, leaving his rifle behind. The plod thought it was the dead farmer’s rifle. This is nonsense. All they had to do was check the serial number and see who it was registered to. Case closed. It would have taken five minutes. The one armed filing clerk could have solved the case, but clearly the writer had no understanding of the law, a slight problem in a crime series.
Did I mention the two rival farmers’ sons were in a gay relationship? Of course they were, it’s 1961 after all daddio.
In summary, utter tosh from start to finish. The plot made no sense at all, and as usual the local people were depicted as racist knuckle draggers. The typical libel on the British people we have come to expect. Now I really can stop watching at last!

No such failings in the speed at which they managed to fling loads of protestors into clink after the event. No signals missed, no one escaped “justice” most of whom had committed no acts of violence let alone threaten such and some of whom had only used the “wrong” language on social media ffs. Funny how that justice operation went like clockwork while the potential murderer was left free to carry out his atrocities innit?
The astute observer will note how they had no plan to deal with people like Rudakubana, but the right-wing protests were very swiftly dealt with and all involved quickly put into prison.
