…doesn’t mean the Beeb has to agree. This “story” is bogus. President Bush, after all, was not slow to declare a state of emergency along the Gulf Coast. Mayor Nagin’s reaction to this “news” is laughable and hypocritical but the Beeb is happy to serve us New Orleans sludge.
Update: DFH, one of our B-BBC commenterati has two very helpful posts here and here. Auntie can’t get away with what she once did.
“The power of goverments to bugger everything up is incredible.”
guess where the London bombers met up and became radicalised?
in a GOVERNMENT funded drop-in centre:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamara_Youth_Access_Point
“The Hamara Youth Access Point (Hyap) is a drop-in centre for teens in Leeds, Britain, operated by the Hamara Healthy Living Centre, an Islamic charity partly funded by the UK government. The drop-in centre was frequented by several of the suspects in the 7 July 2005 London bombings, and is believed to have been where some were recruited into the terrorist cell.”
no only that – the bookshop that the bombers frequented was again, partly funded by cloudy headed do-gooding nutters in the government:
“The Hyap’s status permitted it to apply for grants from the UK government for various program monies totalling more than £1 million. Among the programs funded this way was the Iqra bookshop, which sold Islamic materials, including religious tracts and political videos and DVDs, claimed to be anti-West propaganda. The Leeds suspects are believed to have watched some of the DVDs with graphic footage of civilian deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the West Bank.”

so there you have it – in black and white. as clear as day.
The beeb gave massive coverage to that flawed UN report which claimed that conditions at gitmo are awful and akin to turture.
In the interest of balance perhaps they should talk about this: http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=politicsNews&storyid=2006-03-06T180359Z_01_L06336874_RTRUKOC_0_US-EU-USA-GUANTANAMO.xml
Wonder how long we’ll have to wait…
Typical bbc journalism….
“Shamsul Gani sits in his home, in the northern English city of Leeds, a proud father cradling his six-month-old son.
I ask him about the three young men from Leeds who carried out the London bombings last year.
“You’d have left your house keys with them and gone away for a year,” he told me.
Europe’s angry young Muslims
Europe is home to a new generation of alienated young Muslims whose anger may turn to radicalism, the BBC’s Islamic affairs analyst Roger Hardy finds in new three-part series.

Roger Hardy’s three-part series “Europe’s Angry Young Muslims” begins on the BBC World Service on 8 March.

It’s no wonder then that they don’t want a public inquiry. What about the ‘drop-in’ of one of the terrorists at the House of Commons to meet Cabinet minister, Hilary Benn!
“”You’d have left your house keys with them and gone away for a year,” he told me.”
oh for gods sake. these idiots really dont get it , do they.
Jihad is against the Infidels.
of course that chap quoted could have trusted the bombers – he’s a Muslim for pete’s sake.
if i left my keys with one of the bombers, i wouldnt have a house when i came back.
i’d have a rather large and round crater instead.
Archduke “The Leeds suspects are believed to have watched some of the DVDs with graphic footage of civilian deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the West Bank.”
I’ve downloaded a video of Islamo stoning, courtesy of rotty pup.
Obviously the Leeds suspects did not share my reaction. It bolstered my belief that the failure of Muslim “moderates” to march, demonstrate & broadcast their abhorance with this stone age mentality leaves tham all condemned.
Meanwhile a BBC correspondent & Channel4 News’ Snow & (veilled)Hillsum positively swoon over the Iranians.
Archduke “The Leeds suspects are believed to have watched some of the DVDs with graphic footage of civilian deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the West Bank.”
oh for pete’s sake
how does this even qualify as news? once again it’s that ever so helpful passive voice. who believes it? the writer of this piece and his/her editor? and so what?
people are free to believe whatever they like, however ridiculous their beliefs, right? i see that just be looking around me almost daily!
of course, we know what they’re laying the groundwork for.
why did they (allegedly) watch them? edification? nothing else decent on tele at the time? or for the same reason people produced and watched certain documentaries speaking of a particular ethnic group while swarms of rats filled the screen?
“how does this even qualify as news?”
because it was funded by the UK taxpayer. thats why.
or has that point gone over your head?
Mike, Pete, Archduke, and others
re. Smoking ban
I only just got back to check this comments thread.
I don’t think I need to add anything to what you all said….well done.
steady on, archduke!
the question was rhetorical, and aimed not at your highlighting the matter, but rather at the bbc, and their custom, in my opinion, of not only sneaking in unattributed opinions they want aired with phrases like “is/are believed by some”, but presenting them as integral with news.
ah yes. i get you now.
yes , i find that aspect annoying as well. half-baked amateur guesswork served up as “news”.
